Never worried about the insurance but good point about prescriptions!! Of course I've never been asked about any, and never been searched. When they ask if you have anything to declare I say no, which isn't a lie, because I am not going to "Declare" I am bringing parts across to fellow Ventureriders...

Didn't make Big Tom's ride becaues Becky had a Ladie's Tea at church so instead I got the lawnmower out to get it ready for the season. Wanted to replace the drive belt as it was slipping last year. While the oil was draining I removed my gas tank and installed the new bib that came in the mail that morning. After looking all over town for a new belt, morning turned to afternoon and Becky came home, and one of our newet members, Joe Neamon, called to find out if we wanted to ride someplace and I said sure, I have to go to Sears about 26 miles away. They live in the next town over, about 5 - 10 minutes away, and as we wer e waiting another new member Tom who lives 2 doors down drove past with his GF Amy and I told him gear up, Joe is on the way over and he told me he knew, he just saw Joe on the way over. A few minutes later, another neighbor 2 more doors down stoped and I asked him if he wanted to ride with us. He has a really nice Harley softtail he keeps immaculate, and in the 5 years he has had it, we have never ridden together. It's always some thing or another. Anyway, Jerry joins us sans wife who is busy, and off to Hamburg we go! Wonderful ride in, absolutely no rain! That morning Jerry had been in the area we went for an ABATE ride and ended up getting drenched (and got his shiny bike dirty)!! Horray, Sears had the belt we needed. In the mean time, Joe and Kathy hadn't had their lunch and it was going on 4:00 so we decide to head to East Aurora for a meal. Great food, great fellowship! Well, naturally we have to have ice cream, so back to Arcade to Delightfuls for ice cream. The weather is still summer like and none of us feel like calling it a night except Jrry who had to get home to wife, sooo, off to Ellicottville for coffee!! Stayed there for a while, it was already dark, so I guess it's time to finally call it a day. Now if Joe hadn't needed to go to work this morning, we may have went to Cleveland for breakfast...

fog/driving lights
bongobobny replied to armyvet's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, as far as the operating voltage, that is exactly what you want! now, current wise, anything greater than 10 Amps should work but try for 20 - 40 amp range, that way it should last virtually forever. Watts total divided by volts (12) = current, and rule of thumb is to double current handling capacity for longevity at a minimum... -
Why, yes they did!! Looking to Mcguiver it or something else into my 2nd gen...

I'm saddened by the news! Prayers for the family!

fog/driving lights
bongobobny replied to armyvet's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, relay is the way to go! The stock stator should handle the load, but if you have any reservations contact Rick at Buckeye Performance and buy one of their high output stators. Just don't forget to order the cover gasket as well.. -
vapor_kits dash board instrument?
bongobobny replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ya know, that would be a GREAT idea for a specialized GPS. Have the map superimposed on the Speedometer with all the other info like dash gauges... -
gear indication display ?
bongobobny replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Usually the contacts get crudded up, or the position gets out of line if that helps. Bad solder conection on the connector for the main harness into the dash will make some gears not indicate... -
It is a MK2 so that makes it '86 thru '93...

I was talking with a new member Joe from Delevan and he may make it. Depending on what Mother plans, we might both be there but the ice cream stop will have to be at Delightfuls so I can pick up Becky...
-
Becky isn't available until 1:00, and Mother may be coming down, so I don't think we will make it, although we will be riding somewhere in the afternoon...
-
I agree! Actually, a lot of that will clean up fairly well. It's worth it in parts alone!!

Tippy or Top Heavy?
bongobobny replied to Blue Giant's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yah! Tall bike and a little on the top heavy side, but no where near as top heavy as a 2nde gen. Just takes a while to get used to it. Play with your air suspension alittle to see which setting works best for you. Omnce you get used to it, you will find the 1st gens quite maneuverable! Keep in mind it is a touring bike, not a sport bike though... -
Awwww, man, cheaperr than the one I bought... To late!

I'm hiding a dent I put in the tank last year when I was hooking up the GPS. Droped the tank on the driveway and hid it with some metal flaming eagles. The flame tips get caught on my blue jeans and come awfuly close to the family jewels, so I want to put a rear tank cover on instead...

Hey wanderer, not sure if that was what Charlie was looking for but it is EXACTLY what I'm loking for, and I just bought one!! Thanks, pal!

Now how the H is she going to ride with us this weekend????? We'll be praying for her!

Charlie, I pulled my piggybacker behind me at near 90 mph already, and even negotiated the dragon with a bent hitch following Mother... A lot depends on how solid your hitch is, the wheel size of the trailer, the load, nd most uimportant, the road you are on!! I was very happy with the solid hitch on my 1st gen, zero free play, as oposed to the hitch on my '09 which had a lot of slop to it. I still traveled at highway speeds up to 80 with it, but didn't feel as confident as I did with the '84. I guess the bottom line is how crazy you are, and I already know the answer to that!!!

adjusting handlebars on 83 Venture
bongobobny replied to Auld's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Unfortunately, that is a common complaint! It will take some serious McGuiver'ing to acomplish this, and when you are done with yours, mine is next...- 3 replies
