  1. Although I'm not quite the LD rider some of you are, I am a rider that will travel cross country in my own time, usually with a passenger. I totally agree with the content of this thread and can't stress enough about the importance of knowing when to hang it up for the day!!! There are sooo many variables to consider, weather, traffic, air quality, and personal condition for the day. Indeed it is not abnormal to make 600 miles in one day and the next maybe only 150! The last thing anybody should do, especially on 2 wheels, is to drive tired! It is dangerous enough in a cage much less on a motorcycle! The main concern is when you're tired, your judgement is impared and your reaction time is diminished almost as if you had been drinking. Carry on with your excellent write up Twigg!
  2. Yah! After I made it a full month, just for the heck of it I mooched a cigarette from a friend and lit it and took one drag, and handed him the cigarette back. Just needed to be reminded of how horrible it tasted and how much I was hurting myself!!!
  3. Looks like a lot more comfortable riding position than the spyder, but where does the passenger sit???
  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Steamer!!! Retirement is really really great:stirthepot:
  5. DEKA! It is also available from a couple of auto stores under their own brand. There was a thread about this about a year ago, hopefully someone will remember the details. The Deka is the one skydoc sells at a very good price delivered to you. He deals directly with the manufacturer.
  6. you just had a Birthday last year and it's time again?!!? HAPPY BIRTHDAY SQUIDMEISTER!!!!
  7. Of course we will help!!!
  8. Spend the extra money on progresives, much better than OEM. You will be glad you did!!!
  9. Yes, very good info there!! There is one thing, most tire manufactures actually recommend not using a tire older than 6 years old. Twigg is right, pushing 800lbs down the highway on 2 wheels the last thing in the world I would want is a blow out!!!
  10. Good morning faithful readers!! Welcome to today's edition of AS THE WHEELS TURN brought to you, by Huggies where a good hug is better than a wet bottom any day! As we last left Bongo Bob at the Toronto International Airport a stranger had just touched him and he turned to see it was Brad T! NaughT was with him. Excuse me sir, you look like my friend from the States, is that you Bongo? Shhhh! Yes it is me but I'm undercover! Brad T's eyes get real big and says really?!!? Tell me more! So Bongo proceeds to tell Brad the whole story of what has happened starting with Big Tom and his posse coming to visit with this stranger asking about spare 1st gen parts and leading up to the mystery boxes and the wild donuts and the encounter at the airport and how he got to the airport in the first place! He also mentions seeing Ben and Carl and Sherry minus Scott talking earlier, so they must also be around here someplace, and how he and Dave have conceived this plot to follow the trail of the mysterious laughing drug and the carrier, and how he plans on going over to Abdul's place and having him transport him over to Evan and Anne's place wnile Dave follows the mysterious Salvatore and the drug. Brad T then suggests they have a meet and eat as he and Rhonda have not eaten yet and they are hungry! Where's the closest Longhorn Steak House??? We're on our way to Cuba for a holiday and our flight isn't leaving for a while yet. Where did you say the other guys went?? Bongo just sighs. Oh, well, he is hungry too and a Longhorn sounds much better than a Timmies for a meal anyway. OK lets look around for the guys but remember, be suttle as I'm undercover and I'm not sure if I'm being watched! So they begin milling around the airport looking for the rest of the crew. Suddenly they spot yet another familar face, Why, it's... Who did they spot? Will they ever find a Longhorn Steak House? Where is the rest of the gang and why are they at the airport? Why is Scott not with Sherry? Stay tuned for these and other possible answers on the continuous saga of AS THE WHEELS TURN!
  11. Non running, sat for years? He obviously isn't interested in it and wants it out of his way. I'd offer $500. There will be a lot of PM to do before I'd even consider riding it. Carbs will need a complete rebuild. Both tires will need replacing regardless of how much tread is on them. All hydraulics will need to be flushed. Rotors will ,ost likely be shot with hard spots on them and good luck finding new ones, non existant for the most part. Front shocks will need rebuilding, I'll almost guarantee they will leak oil and the springs are probably tired out. Swing arm and rear shock bushings will need lubricating, and you will probably find wear on the bushings as well. Drive shaft will need to be pulled and greased up. Change differential oil. Clean and reseat every electrical comnmector. That being said, once you give it a thorough going over you will have a very reliable and comfortable cross country touring bike. IMHO the 1st gen Venture was one of the finest touring bikes ever made. Also, at $500 (or less, feel him out for what he actually wants to get) you could double your money parting out the bike...
  12. Yup! Impact and #3 JIS bit!! I was reasonably successful with heat, #3 Phillips and vice grips clamped tightly on screwdriver shaft and healthy wack with hammer before trying to unscrew. gGot all but 1 which needed vice grips on screw head along with heat! Use regular hardened, at least an 8 bolts and loctite when reassembling. I used a Rick's stator and am back to stock R/R...
  13. On my older toshiba laptop my wireless on/off slide switch is in front on the left side. Regardless of the make there is usually a indicator light to tell when wifi is on or off...
  14. yes, my '84 costs me just about that many dollars per year, actually $86!
  15. Just got back from visiting Larry and Joyce, and Ragtop69 as well. Larry looks good considering and it was great to see him stand up! I was expecting on seeing him still in bed but he is up and around, using a walker for anything more than a step or 2 but that's just for protection and security for trips to the bathroom, etc. It's hard to keep a good man down! Of course his ribs and shoulder still hurt but the redness from his scrapes and bruises is getting better. Sure was good to see the old coot and spend some time with him!! Right now the biggest issue for him is the boredom! I know EXACTLY how he feels having been thru it myself where you are injured or recovering from something and you feel OK enough to get out of bed and move around, but you aren't healthy enough to do things around the house, etc. You know he wants to get out in the garage and putter around but can't yet! So needless to say he was really glad to see us as so were we to see him! Kudos to Jay and Jeanie (Ragtop69) for keeping him company and being there for him when he really needed them! He is already looking for a new trike to ride!! I did not see the trike but saw pictures of it. It is definately totaled, and was just confirmed by the dealer this afternoon. Now is just the long wait for the insurance adjustment, and for him to be healthy enough to make whatever he decides on into his very own ride! We are looking forward to riding with him once again! GET WELL SOON LARRY!!!!!
  16. Jewish people? Oh, I guess that would almost be the same as political refugees...
  17. Uhhhh, urge to do what?? Kill someone or smoke?? Great news my friend!!! Quit smoking and live!!!
  18. Good Morning faithful readers and welcome to this week's installment of the continuing saga of AS THE WHEELS TURN brought to you by Huggies, because you never know when you need a Hug! When we last left Bongo Bob hje and Dogman were formulatring a plan to follow the strange drug to it's destination. Dogman suggests that Bongo has Salvatore bring the drugs to the waterfront area of Toronto to Evan's place. Why is that asks Bongo. Dogman replies that way we can follow Sal and see if he has any contact with anyone, and it gives me time to set up everything. Now quick, get away from me before he gets suspicious! Bongo AKA Stephano goes back to Sal who is now away from the lockers. Did you get the stuff?? Yeah I did, he answers. Great! Here's what I want you to do. Here's the address of one of my "Business" associates here in the city. Meet me tomorrow there with the goods while I make arangements to smuggle it into the states. Now scram before the cop over there gets suspicious! Just as Sal is out of sight Bongo feels a hand on his shoulder! He turns and see's it's... Who is the person who touched Bongo?? Will Sal ever find the address he is supposed to go to? Will Dogman get a promoti9n out of this? Will anyone stop at a "Timmies" for a coffee?? Stay tuned for possible answers to these and many other questions on (que organ music, eh??) AS THE WHEELS TURN!!!
  19. Joe, I know I am not the offending party, nor do I have a clue, but in all seriousness, if I have ever offended you, (or anyone else here for that matter) I am indeed sorry as it has never veen my intention to ever deliberately or otherwise offend anyone here and I humbly apologize!
