  1. Glad to hear your trip was a good one. George is a great guy, we have spent time with him up there on a couple occasions. I was going to try and get ahold of you and ride with you folks abit while you were here but we decided to head down to Indy for Bummer's M&E. We'll catch up with you folks soon enough...welcome back home
  2. Mike, You dont have to pull the tank, take off the 2 allen head bolts that hold the plastic cover off over the gascap and then pull the seat off ant there are 2 phillips screw that hold it on the bottom. Pull the old one off and remove any of the 2 way sticky tape and install the new on reverse of all that....no sweat, easy job
  3. Folks I just want to take this time to praise those who deserve it. I recently (read last Monday) decided to buy a backrest for my '08. I looked at both the Utopia and the Diamond R, I went with the Diamond R and I am so happy that I did. I know you folks hear of us praising certain vendors that offer us great products or service. Let me tell you that Diamond R does both. I ordered online and then later that morning talked with Patty on the phone. She was very pleasant to chat with and had told me that she had already packaged up my backrest and was going to ship it the same day I ordered it! I recieved it from Texas to Michigan by Thursday 3 days...it don't get much better than that folks. Lonna and I went to Bummers M&E south of Indy this weekend and I can tell you that my back was a much happier part of me. If you are looking for a backrest, please check out what Allan & Patty have to offer. Their products are top quality and the customer service is stellar....I highly recommend them to all of our members
  4. Something tells me it was more than that....but I believe your on the right track
  5. This is the second post that you have bumped your head on....do we need to send a doctor to you
  6. I had a similar setup I made on an '86 1 ton Dodge P/U I had, had a guy hit me with a beemer and it totalled the front of his car out.....duh I also do the same thing on the bike coming to a sign or light, I'm always looking in my mirrors and the bike is always in gear ready to go if I need to. Funny the things we learn from many years of riding, and how many others do the same thing.
  7. Thanks everyone, I have just turned over 2500 miles on her now after our M&E visit to Indiana. I sure would like to travel to every state so that I could let you all see the color....and we could eat too
  8. Can we try to change the color to match the Venture Ranger??
  9. Did you bump your head again Jeff ??
  10. Glad you weren't on the bike Bob....I wont even start a tirate, but I'm glad that your telling the story
  11. I have always engine braked for slowing, probably from my dirtbike days to come out of the hole in a powerband for holeshots. It's just carried over to my streetbikes as I also reley on my rear brakes a lot, this also from riding dirtbikes.
  12. Lots of speculation on the hopefully redesigned RSV. I know a majority of the 1st genner owners want it to be a redesign of the 1st gen platform. I have had both platforms and even though I have just bought an '08 I would be in for a cruiser style 1700 V4. One of the biggest reasons I got rid of my 1st gen was the foot position of it. After buying the latest '86 of mine, I realised that I can't go back to the feet under foot position. If it goes back to a 1st gen styling, it wont be for me. If you guys want a sport type touring go with the FJR or ST 1300....besides Yamaha seems to never listen to us anyhow so why should they start now
  13. Good work you two, Russell, you actually look like you knew what you were doing there...whodathunktit That should be a great cooker and I know the pig will be good Eck.....That is a pretty trick looking helmet, made by Jackson
  14. If you need a coil, I have one, but I have heard of the pickup coil being a buggar at times too. Let me know if you believe it's a spark coil.
  15. After 2 accidents where if I didn't have one on I'd be dead or a vegetable, I always wear it. I went without once when we were in Colorado for a run to the cycle shop and it was too weird without it.
  16. Bill, I had the same feeling when I decided that Colorado was the '07 rally. I know Lonna thought I lost my mind, hell I did too. But I'll tell you what, and this is the God's honest truth, as hard as you work and the headaches you WILL have. When you see all the members show up and start talking with eachother and go on rides, you will live in the moment. It happenened to me in Colorado, and I know it will happen to you. I feel your enthusiasm and I can't wait to give your committee any help I can. There will be buzz about this for a long time, good on you and all the committee members for taking this on, were all very proud of the start of your efforts
  17. Well Tate....you could send them to me and I'll post them, that way she would have to come to Michigan to kick me. Thats one way to get you folks here
  18. Great Pics Steve, Lonna and I were really happy to be with you all. I'll try to get some of our up here by tomorrow
  19. Great news Kreg...keep that woman off her feet so she can heal up. Looking forward to getting back down to Texas and seeing you folks again
  20. Erik, Ditto on what everyone has said, great to meet you and your mother inlaw, and to hear that you folks had a good time. I do hope that you can get up here to Michigan as I will be posting up the M&E for the 9th here with details tomorrow. Be safe and we'll see you folks again real soon
  21. Thanks Lou, I'll get in touch with you here soon and we'll make it happen. Besides it will be good to get back over there and see all of you folks again
  22. I'll tell you what, I just looked at the site and that is where I'm going to buy my bib from for the RSV. I like how that looks and his price is very reasonable
  23. Damn Lutz....you really like to spend my money
  24. A lot of us have had very good luck with the Avon Venoms. I personally have had 5 sets on 6 different bikes, 2 1st gens and 2 second gens, for me they did give my G2's a very neutral steering feeling thatI didn't feel with other tires. Therr has been a few issues of folks with 1st gens that ride solo having a squirrley feeling from the rear of the bikes. I encountered this when I did Muffinmans bike. When there was a passenger on the back it didn't happen. I have also used the Michelin Commanders, on both 1st and 2nd gens with good results. I have a set on my '86 right now and I'm pleased with their feel. Both tires are very good quality wise and either would work out fine for either Generation of Venture
  25. .....and there you go
