Best of luck with your surgery Don

I never heard anything terrible about them, if you can get it cheap enough and have it to tinker then go for it buddy. Besides if you run into trouble I'll only be about a buck and a half from you

Beautiful! Let the fun begin....now Kevin can loose some hair

I wanted to go ride today, installed new pads in the front R6 calipers and did another system flush. I tried to start it and wouldn't you know....the starter clutch is puked out No bike until we get down to Houston as I'm not going to pull it that far down this close to moving. Always something or another, I'm getting that POD early as I want out of Michigan NOW! BTW nice pics of an obvious good time

Just to keep this interesting, the BIGGEST obstacle is people stepping up to the plate and planning the event. I did it in Colorado, and lost a lot of hair doing it. Owl talked with Reiny Rooster and HalRSV99 and mentioned to them it might be nice in Canada. The Kitchener folks picked up the ball and we had a hell of a time in Kitchener at the '08 International. Bill stepped up and planned Arkansas this year and it was great too. The big issue is the distances that lie between. I remember when in '06 Lonna and I went to the Susanville rally in California. That was the 1st time one of the east coasters went west for a rally, and thats where the International was born in my head. My objective was to get the east and west together in a spot that roughly was in the center of the country. Like was mentioned, the "International" is just a name, we can and do have alternate rallys all over the countries. I know you boys up in the pacific NW and in BC have a long ride to these things, and you have done great with the Kootenays. It matters not to me "Where" the International is held, far as I'm concerned Potato Creek can be a regional rally and if the Canadians want to step up and plan the International thats fine. But lets not damper this in the technical aspect of it. To me the 5 year anniversary at PC is pretty important for us as a group. Whether it's the International I really dont care, but if someone wants to step up and make a bid for the IR please do so and lets move on with this

Bunkhouse trailers aren't cheap, new ones will run several thousand dollars http://www.bf-specialties.com/prices.html If you pick it up for less than $2K your stealing it, I know that Leadwold56 has one and loves it

I agree with Forestt, 1/4 million miles on that car and I'm sure that it will start to nickle and dime you. I dont know that I would invest what will turn out to be closer to $3k in a car with that many miles. If it were a rear wheel drive perhaps, but the unibody front wheel drive with that many miles is not far from going to the scrap yard

Thats beautiful area up there, Lonna and I were married at the Upper Tahquamenon Falls, where your boat pic was taken right at the foot of the falls. Great area to ride and some of the best scenery on the planet

It is a PITA riding in a group, I have lead MANY rides and have had up to 30 bikes behind me. It can be challenging to say the least to make decisions for all the bikes. I like the idea of spreading the bikes out, but here in Michigan if you give a car enough room to squeeze into the pack they will try to do it, and that is a recipe for disaster. The details are fairly vague, but I know that I have seen clubs (do not read biker gangs) keep tight formations and ride side by side. I have ridden beside folks that I know and am confident of their abilities, but I still pay extra close attention. No matter who they are, I know how not fun crashing on a bike is, I hope they all recover.

I would like to paint one of my Ventures in the future a copper color, I have always liked that on a bike.

Kreg, I'm not exactly sure of the spot, but follow the swingarm up to it's pivot point, on the right side of the bike there should be a cover over the socket nut. It takes a pretty big hex socket and you have to break loose the jam nut, but thats how you tighten the rear swing arm is at that point. I somewhat do it by feel but there is a torque in the book, I dont have it handy right now. Some whwre at about 40 ft lbs seems to stick out in my head. Give me a call if you need some more assistance...Have a great day and we'll be in TEXAS soon

Quasi-Scientific Iridium Plug Test (AKA "Magic" plugs)
Squidley replied to V7Goose's topic in General Tech Talk
Easy about the Navy there Cowboy -
Kreg, I would check the bracket that holds the rear caliper on. There is the 12mm bolt that secures it on the front of it to the swing arm, check the caliper bolts also. I have had to tighten a few swingarms, are you also feeling the bike being a little "Loose" while in a curve?

What did I do now?

Bob, I dont necessarily think you fried anything (I might be wrong though), even if you had the car putting a charge back in the battery it wasn't any more voltage than the bikes charging system puts out. A weak spot on the 1st gens is that fuse block under the faux tank cover. I have replaced mine on all the 1st gens I have owned and several other 1st gens of other members. Skydoc17 has a kit that he sells in the classifieds http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/2330 I use an 8 spot fuse block and mine looks like the pics below. The next and perhaps maybe the most important question, why was the battery dead, and how old is it. If it's more than say 3 or 4 years old, get a new battery. Only then will you be able to check the charging system to make sure it is all working right. Chime back in and give a few more details to the story and we'll see what we can come up with -
Looking good Lew, I know I have had a lot of time with one of those spray guns in my hand. Love the color combo, almost looks like the '09 "S" model with a pewter instead of sea shell. Cant wait to see the bike all together...good job buddy

Carl, I can imagine your feelings, I'm sure my parents felt the same way when I was headed for the middle east during the 1st gufl war. Let your son know that we are proud of what he carries for us and we wish him nothing but the best. May peace be with all of you and.... Semper Fi
