old exhaust collector replacement
Squidley replied to Thom's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There's no doubt that it could be done, what we may want to try is getting a set of pipes off an RSV and see if we can modify them to fit well. Biggest obstacle that I can think of right off my head is the angles that the pipes come out at. If we can get the 2 bikes side by side, I'm sure several of us could brainstorm and figure something out. I agree that the collector on the 1st gens is the biggest pain there is with working on the bikes. -

It moves the rear brake control up top so that the rear brakes can be applied by hand instead of foot as Annie has some foot issues.

Byron, When you post a thread or a responce to one, when you scroll down to where you submit your responce, there will be a bar that says manage attachments. Click on that and it will bring up a window which will allow you to browse your computer and upload pics from your computer to the site. Just be forewarned if the pics are too large in file size you wont be able to do it. There is a testing area in the forum where you can practice. If you run into problems PM me and we'll get you squared away

That looks like a very good quality system, I'll be interested in hearing how it works out for you

Thanks Pick, Just joined the forum over there, do appreciate the info and ifffin I get stuck I'll be chatting with you

Rob, Glad to hear you got the bike going again, but I want to put in this disclaimer. I dont know how old the battery is, but if it's more than about 3 years, you might want to seriously think about replacing it. Ventures are very hard on batteries and by draining the one in your bike to absolute dead may have taken some of it's life away. This is just a precautionary statement, I'm not saying that you will have problems, but be prepared if the bike gives you some starting issues

Dwight, Just for comparison purposes only, I saw a MM in Charlotte NC in August on our way home from Vogel. It was mint and had minimal miles on it, just over 11K, they were asking $8K. This might give you an idea on yours, sorry to hear you have to sell it. I really like the MM's too

Thanks Fellas, I ended up joining a V twin forum and also purchased a CD manual on ebay that also sent me a link to download it while I'm waiting for the disc to arrive. I appreciate all your help and Rick, by all means send my email to your co-worker. I'll keep you all updated on the progress, if I had the extra money I would buy this one. Would give me something of Rons to keep him close

Annie, If it works fine I wouldn't bother replacing it, I personally just like the beefier Firestik for cosmetic purposes and being able to tune it to the CB.

The past 2 years I haven't done near as many miles as normal, only about 10K. The previous 3 years to that I put right at about 20K on each year....I REALLY want to get back to my normal riding season. BTW....those miles were put on living in Michigan and not riding for at least 4 month out of the year

Hello Folks, As some of you know my good friend and neighbor passed away last Saturday. We have gotten the family past the funeral and now I am diving into the reason I have decided to stay in Michigan for a few extra weeks. Ron had his H/D in the garage, it's a '79 FLH Electra Glide, and I am getting it in a sellable condition for his widow. What I need is some info or if any of you members out there that know where I might find some tech info/Manuals so I can service this bike properly and actually try to get it running. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Barend, I'm here to tell you that the exhaust collector is the biggest PITA on the 1st gens. It took me 2 days of screwing around with the one on my '89 before I finally got it to fit well enough. I can't tell you any secret as it was all about fiddling around with it to access the bolts to tighten. I wish I had something better to tell you, but I most definitely feel your pain.

Jerry, I know where your coming from, but I do know that Tartan Terror had mentioned that a lot of that was going around in the New York area. I just put that message in as a disclaimer, obviously folks can and will do whatever they want -
The clutch upgrade on the G2 consists of removing the half friction disc that sits in the very back of the clutch pac and installing a full one. It also has a heavier diaphram spring that puts better pressure in the clutch pac so that it doesn't slip as some tend to do the more miles they get. Pretty much thats it in a nutshell.

James, If you can wait until we get down there, about 2 weeks, I'd be glad to help you with the install. If the Houston crew wanted we could do a clinic on it, I have done 6 of them to date.
