Drove through Bracebridge area on Tues before the storm and there was at least a foot of snow on the ground - then hit a whiteout from the storm as I continues south around Barrie. Got to Toronto and the sun was shining - and no snow.

Wow! I would give up my Yamaha Venture sled for a day to try out this machine, and there is snow here in most of Ontario.

Thanks for the post and pics Owen. good info. Increased visibility has also been on my mind.

Hey Charlie - Based on my experience, your grandkids who will also bring major joy to your life will grow up even faster. Also, the relationship with my (two) daughters who are now into their 40's evolves and gets even better as each year goes by.

Same here except I generally wait until the temp goes above freezing - don't like to risk icy roads around here.

Want to add my congratulation Ben. You gotta work at it at times, but its worth it. Hope you are able to take time to enjoy the moment.

So did I but it was many years ago. I took my windshield off and went for a run. Didn't like the feeling so I have never had a bike without a windshield since.

Hey Gary, I have a similar problem that should be repaired but I have been holding off. Sounds like I sholdn't worry so much about the repair and I am also intersed in your tips on how to have my honey wax the scoot!

Yea Steve. Aren't you glad we don't live in Western Canada right now! Also went for a couple hour ride today and it was great except here in the Toronto/Niagara area, it was sure windy (forecast said up to 60 km/hr). I was impressed by how well the VR handles in strong winds.

Things To Do While Waiting For Coffee To Brew...
Evan replied to bongobobny's topic in Watering Hole
I guess we need to remember the old adage Bob that time goes by quicker when we are having fun, or something like that. -
This is good stuff Eck. However, in my case, I needed a cheap solution that would allow me to use my cover without laying the antenna flat. So, I cut a half inch hole in the cover in the right spot and reinforced the cover around the hole with some fabric and fabric glue. For me, it works well as long as I start to cover my scoot by first putting the antenna through that hole in the cover.

Update and question
Evan replied to SC89Venture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
While you have far better advice from others than I could give, I will share my own recent experience. Had a similar problem a few weeks ago when I removed the rear caliper to change my brake fluid. In my case, I think the problem arose because the end of the bolts protrude a bit and the threads were dirty. I was finally able to remove the bolt without breaking it but I found filings on the bolt and threaded hole that the bolt goes into. After I cleaned both with air, I was able to thread in the bold with no friction at all. I wondered if the problem could have been avoided if I cleaned off the protruding threads before I started to remove the bolt. -
That's my experience, and there are some posts that tell you how to add a zerk fitting so these bearings don't go dry on you. This is on my to do list.

I put a PIA Extreme White headlight bulb in
Evan replied to shikano53's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I got talked into PIAA for my 1st gen (88VR) by a reputable bike shop (Zdeno's in Kitchener). While I find the bulb to be an improvement, I was expecting more. Marcarl told me that he noticed improved visibility, but only on bright beam, which I now leave on all the time for that reason. -
Some say that you are only as old as you feel but I would never say that to you Charlie cause I know your body is a weather vane. Hope next year makes you smile even more. Happy birthday!

The amount of traveling you do Don amazes me. Hope you have good weather for a weekend ride and you are able to take advantage of it. Here in Ontario, the onset of colder weather is depressing many of us so I recently went for a 500 mile ride when there was a bit of a break and it sure was therapeutic for me.

Bob, you can be sure that your many friends including myself know a good man when we meet one and you sure fit into that category. Prayers and best wishes for a "kick ass" recovery are in order and are sent.

Don, it is again comforting from your post to see that that this forum is in such good hands. Seeking suggestions and feedback is appreciated and you are getting lots of that. Personally, I am attracted to the possible solutions that you note and for what it is worth, I do value some mechanism fo flag new classifieds or other Venture specific adds. Anyway, I also think that your decision should be significantly influenced by what is more efficient for the site and your team.

Accessory Wiring ?
Evan replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, I read all the posts with great interest as I have wanted to install a Stebel horn (thanks again Bongobob) for some time now. I mounted the air horn and acquired a relay switch for wiring in accordance with the great info in this thread. The day before I was going to hook up the air horn, a Wing buddy said why do it that way. His claim was that my existing horns utilize a relay that would be all I need for the new air horn to work properly as long as I hooked up to the existing horn wires. As you can see from the pictures, I mounted the Stebel horn right behind the original horn which I left in place, so it was a 10 second job to switch the wiring from the terminals on the original horn to those on the air horn. To my pleasant surprise, it works great. Is there any reason why I should not be happy with this wiring?- 39 replies

Anyone looking for a First GEN???
Evan replied to bluerstd08's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Earl, your helpful as well as positive attitudes (even after this fiasco) continue to come through and impress me. Your experience reminds me of something a bit similar a few years ago. I went considerably out of my way to look at an 88VR based on the owner's posted pictures and responses to all my questions. It was junk. Soon after that, I debated about another long trip to look at another 88 after the owner said it was only in fair condition. I did make the trip and that bike was far better than described by the owner. That is the bike I currently own. -
Yes, I used schrader valves to control my suspension until I did the solder fix to the controller. Works just fine and fairly easy to set up, but a note of caution. Inflate with caution! Best to use a hand pump. Otherwise, you can overinflate before you know it and blow seals etc.

I share the outrage triggered by events like this and my own sense of outrage seems to be growing with time. There is simply no excuse.

I know this has been addressed before but I am still confused. I did buy a gallon of Camp Fuel (have many engines to deal with). Can I do any harm to my bike or other motors if I add straight Camp Fuel without mixing it with other products? Right now, my carbs on my 2 stroke snowmobile need to be treated or cleaned.

Great post Earl. Glad that you shared it -its like a gift to the rest of us!
