Right side has a spacer, this is to offset speedo gear head on left side. It is recessed & also fits into wheel hub. I am almost sure it is the same as one on MKI version. Gary

This is incorrect. The 2 pictures below were attached through the Manage Attachments screen. Then put in line using the paper clip icon in the top row of message screen. See link I showed above for more details on this procedure. This picture is full view of wheel. Here is a link detailing how to do it with either all the pictures at the bottom (post # 4 in thread), or to have them in the body of the text with text between pictures (post # 6 in thread) http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=422477 Either way they need to be 800x600 or smaller, I believe. The point to the 21" rims is a mechanical engineering reference. Yammer has said that his bike has done somewhere in the area of 115mph in 3rd gear. I just rechecked the numbers in the gear calculator spreadsheet. In 3rd @ 7500rpm with a 140/90-16 tire (assuming new & full tread depth) speed would be 94.2mph. 8500rpm would be 106.7mph I have no reason to say Dan is full of horse hockey, and he may very well have seen that happen, I personally think he lost count of the gear he was in when he saw that speed. I am sure he will post shortly to say that wasn't the case. 4th gear @ 7500 rpm would be 118.7mph. To my knowledge Dan has a somewhat stock stable of Ventures, none that I am aware of that have a VMax modification to the heads that would allow a 10,000 rpm to be hit without the valve train coming apart. It would take about 9,200 rpm with a stock wheel in a stock Venture to hit 115mph. Knowing that a stock Venture 1200 will start having valve float around 8,500 rpm's, it therefore seems the answer would lie in the somewhat farfetched possibility that Dan had a 21" wheel teleported onto the bike that allowed it to reach 115mph in 3rd gear. This leads us back to the physics reference in the 1st paragraph. It would have taken a larger diameter tire for the bike to obtain that speed at 8500 rpm's. Reason being the larger diameter tire would cover more distance per RPM, thus allowing the higher speed with out Mr. Yammer having the valve train self destruct. Love ya Dan, don't take this personal. But you do know the forum rules. No pictures, it didn't happen. I love a good campfire story as much as almost anyone. Gary

Here is a link to a thread about changing the color of your signal lenses. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47227 I did this 2 years ago and they are still fine. Gary

You are correct Randy. I had the charts for the two bikes swapped. I reloaded file in my post above & reattached it to this one in corrected format. Now named 'Venture gear ratios rev B' Thank You !! Gary

I think you should get a remediable course in reading comprehension if you interpreted anything I have ever posted, as not referring to the Yamaha Royal Star Venture, 1999-present, AKA 2nd Gen and/or RSV as anything other than a HD1AB. (Harley Davidson wanna a be.) I have said they are nice, well made bikes. The people that own them are, and should be proud of them. Overall comfort, reliability and performance far exceeds the HD's. But why in the heck they had to try to try and make it look like an Ultra Classic HD is beyond me. This was a marketing mistake for two reasons. 1st, why imitate something that you are not when the original has such a cult following that the copy will be looked at with disdain. 2nd, since this bike has withstood the test of time, the new 1999 model would have been a great opportunity to start a new distinct look that would have carved out its own niche. Attached is an excel spreadsheet that was developed by another member that I can't remember his handle, name is Rick Mengyan (I think). It is in excel 2003 format. Fields in brown can be changed to different bike transmissions & rear end gearing. Tire size can be changed in upper right, by tire size or diameter. Speed in each gear and 500 rpm increments is displayed on left side. Picture below is only a screen capture of the excel spreadsheet, it can not be changed, only downlpading attached file will do that. Per numbers on this chart & assuming a 140/90-16 tire speeds are as follows: According to this fairly accurate chart, a certain West Virginia yarn spinner tale of 115mph in 3rd at redline is possible with a 21" rim diameter instead of the 16" most Ventures have. http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/MPHingears.jpg

I gone out on a limb here, but I really do think my Venture will stick right with a pure stock 1st gen VMax. I've got a bigger motor than the VMaxs came with, higher compression, better ignition and coils. Other than that the power train is VMax or better. Only real stumbling block is I can't find a header that will fit bike without giving up center stand. Putting a Marks collector, its on order, to try and compensate, mufflers are close to wide open., its on order. I will know for sure at the end of June. There will be close to a 100 VMaxs at Thunder in the Valley in Johnstown Pa. and I will be there. Not really trying to be a VMax, if I was I would have one. I have far more creature comforts than they do. Everything I do to this bike is to see how far I can take a full dress machine. Some of the things on this scooter have probably not been done to a Venture before. Having broken 2 vertebra in my lower back a few decades ago, a crotch rocket just ain't that comfortable. This one is. Last 'high performance' bike before my ventures was an XS1100. It was a quick bike. But not that all comfortable. When I discovered the 1st gen and the potential it has, it became my hobby. I have as much fun working on & re-engineering this bike as I do riding it. Gary

Pictures of what I used are the fittings attached. 5/16 ID vacuum hose fits on them. The ridges (barbs) on each nipple hold hose on. I cut a couple of these of a fitting like these. Got these at Auto Zone. Gary -
These have been good lights, have used them 2 years now. They have been mounted on fairings, but they, or their replacements will have a new home on a pair of the ventureline mounts I got on ebay this week. Fender guard in picture is for sale also. It was brand new when I got it last fall. I found another one that has the side marker lights that is going on this year. Gary

Front Fork Separation..

Just slide your dust covers up & see if if you can see the seal lip between fork tube & washer. Look at 17th picture I posted above, Gary -
Actually, the RSV's come with a gear selector, as do the 1st gens. However, the 1st gens also come with a gear position indicator on the Royales. And a 1st gen is so cool it doesn't need the HD look-alike faux air cool fins. Gary

I have a complete set of front brakes for an MKII available if I get a decent price out of them. MKII calipers that have recently been rebuilt and very good rotors. Also set of anti dives. Gary http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/PICT5383as-1.jpg -

Attached is a zip file that contains the TCIP4_V88 software and an IGN file for a 83-89 Venture. This is the one I furnish. The IGN file will work in your TCIP4_V80 module as is. It will also load into the TCIP4_V88 software. The current TCIP4 V80 module you have will not work with the V88 software, there has been a hardware change in TCI's. Software is 'reference only'. Once you load a program into the V88 version & save it, I don't think it will then load with the V80 software. Also attached are a couple of pictures of a vacuum canister I made from some PVC tubing and end caps. I epoxied a couple of barb hose fittings into one end. This helps smooth out the bouncing you see on laptop display, but not really necessary. Gary -

A few more pictures attached. Pay attention to the 9th picture. It shows 2 sets of washers that go above & below seal. The pair on the left go below the seals, the pair on the right go above seals. They have a different I.D. This is important, if the set on the right is put in first, the upper bushing can come back up through these. 10th picture show the progressive spacers & what I did with spring top washer on the spacers. I had to cut a little out of the I.D. of the PVC to get them to fit in there. 17th picture shows what seal should look like just before dust cap goes on. Last 2 show the VMax rim and FJR rotors being fitted up. Gary -

It looks like you are using the stock IGN file that Ignitech supplied from what I can see on your laptop. PM me an email address and I will send you a slightly better IGN file. I can't send it via this site due to site security policies. Also I will send some pictures of what I have done to smooth out the pulsing you are seeing. The latest version of TCIP4 from Ignitech (V88) seems to have addressed this pulsing, even though I do not think it is a problem, only really can detect it when watching PC display. Gary -
1st Gen Engine removal

You can pull the motor with the swing arm in place, but it makes it 500% easier to get back in with swing arm removed. Gary -

Remove all connected wiring. Remove radiator & all hosing. Remove carbs. Remove mufflers, collector & front headers. Remove rear wheel, final drive, driveshaft & swingarm. Support motor with a rolling type car jack. Remove 6 motor mounts & lower right frame rail tube. Motor will pivot out right side of frame. Gary -
Watch the video posted below, maybe you will see my point about pooling at the bottom and the need for the out of balance condition to manifest itself before the dyna beads can distribute them selves again to be effective. Serious cornering questions tips for an experienced Rider

Below is a cut from the 1st Gen MKI service manual showing a front profile for the bike at 45 deg bank angle. There is still at least another 5 degrees to be had before scraping. The 1st gen MKI's are much more of a compact machine than the MKII's are. Saddlebags are in tighter & higher. I didn't see an illustration like this in the MKII service manual. If you are scrapping the floorboards on anything but an extreme corner, it may be time to look at another bike. I push my 1st gen very hard, and rarely have I scraped pegs on it, maybe twice since I have had two of these. Gary
