Valid argument! I've been fortunate to have had very few mishaps in my job, and Lady Luck has been on my side those few times. Yes, there is always a first, things you have done many times before without incident suddenly have a different result. I've had a wheelbarrow in the back of the truck against the cab many times in the past twenty some years, without it moving in such a way that it would or could fall off. Apparently today was different for some reason, I do not know why, if it was the rain, maybe wind direction, whatever; but it does show that one should not let his/her guard down. Your statement makes me grateful that traffic was light, that it was raining to repel motorcyclists and that my guardian angel was watching out for me. I'm not sure he/she needed to give my barrow to someone else, but hey, guess they needed it more. I see you're close to me, let me know if you find it, save me a hundred bucks.

I get better mileage in town, around 40-ish and blowing down the interstate might drop it down to upper 30's. Now that I have the sidecar I'm getting mid thirties unless I shagg ass on the interstate only. I used to fill up at about 150 miles, now i'm looking at about 120. If the tech is right about the 20mpg, I'd like to know what you've been running on those last 40 miles, I want some of that schtuff

I've been waiting and hoping i could retrieve some information of my crashed hard drive, it would have been nice anyway since the back up got chewed up as well... But, alas, no such luck so i'm getting ready to bite the bullet and start entering two months worth of stuff into my old 'puter. First though I wanted to upgrade my virus protection which meant removing Norton and installing something better. Great idea!! One problem, it calls for a re-start, 'xcept it didn't:doh:. So of to the puter guru, I get there and discover my 2 wheel wheelbarrow is gone from the truck, i suppose it fell off on the way over there:confused07::confused07:, but if'n it did, I sure didn't notice and I didn't see it on the side of the road going home. Then I learn the second hard drive has gone to h3ll:bang head::bang head: The puter guy said he thinks that he will be able to retrieve info from this one though:o Somebody shoot me!!

You woos:stickpoke: had the same thing done and climbed on my bike and rode 75 miles home in winter. did fill my painpills before i made it out of town. We won't talk about my actions after I got home, but it wasn't pretty.:bang head:

Trunk rack for 1st gens
barend replied to Beau-Kat's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There are two types that I know of, there is a rectengular one with a "raised lip" on the back side which has what I would call a more utilitarian look and there is a slightly smaller one without the "lip" but it has a more stylish look. I have the latter on my '83 Royale and I have the other that I can sell you but have to pull it off a trunk from a standard. Bolt patterns are not the same. -
Brenda and I went for a small ride today and saw a brown MkII at a Subway on Hwy 418 in SC, did pull through the parking lot but didn't stop. If this was one of our members, my apologies. We were running late for a 'date', maybe next time??

Brake problems one more time :)
barend replied to clint_1985's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Clint, just went through my rear master and bleeding since my pedal went all the way down without any braking action worth mentioning. Pulled a ton of crap out of the reservoir, installed a rebuild cylinder (I know Skydoc_17 -Earl- has a "used" one for a MkI:stickpoke:) and fuel line from the reservoir to the cylinder and bled the lines. I've got more brakes now then when the shop bled them for me! and I did not adjust the pedal, yet it sits up highter then it did before. Reason: they never cracked the metering valve towards the top of the tripple tree under the right side of the fairing. Turn your handlebars to the left and you can reach up in there reasonably well when you start bleeding. Spray some WD-40 on that hard connection to help brake it loose, about stripped mine before I got smart enough for that. I also installed sintered pads on the rear caliper, since they were about halfway gone. -
Out of curiosity, If you bought a brand new bike from a dealer why can't you get a tag and registration in your home province/town on the basis that it is a new vehicle, new is new, can't have anything screwed up there now can you?

Yup, I'm in Easley. If your new shield isn't here, could be partly due to weather?? -

If your shield also fits a '83, I'd love to have it. Want to do some experimenting witr a shorter shield. -
Center Stand
barend replied to SC89Venture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I believe you said you had a standard? get more air in the shocks, If you have a CLASS increase air to max, hold sadlebag guard and handlebar and heave. Or you could build a small platform out of two by material for the wheels, leave room for the centerstand, it'd be a breeze then. -

Hello neighbor, Welcome home, I'm not the most tecnically inclined and there's at least one guy on here who thinks "stubborn", but it's all good. Call if you need anything: 444-5880 (cell). There is also a maintenance day (MD) in Georgia in April (second weekend) where you might be able to get some stuuf looked at or taken care off. I am hoping to be able to ake that one myself. -

bleeding brakes
barend replied to barend's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Left front! Already done I'm getting fluid when mashing the pedal had one small bubble but still bottoming out, I'll be working on it. I was trying to push fluid up and push any bubbles out into the reservoir, but that doesn't seem to work. Guess I'm going to try and reach the hard coupling under the fairing. Thanks. -
Take that anyway you want to here's the question -I already pestered Earl with this but I did not explain myself properly, and the man should have to do everything! I pumped fluid from the rear bleeder to the master cylinder without a problem. I am trying to do the same in front, push fluid from the bleeder on the caliper through the line to the reservoir. Problem is that I seem to be blowing most of it out from between the tube and the bleeder as thought there is a block. I took the bleed screw out and it is clear. No fluid seems to be reaching the reservoir. What would cause this. *It's a new master cylinder!!

Unfortunately, my friend already tried that, if I understand correctly Linux could not even see the hard drive originally, and after that, it turns out to be corrupted in multiple places ... It's a mess, but can't blame anyone but myself

Well, it seems it happened to me I was online last night and everything locked up, I wound up shutting the thing down and restart and all i got was as my friend calls it "the blue screen of death" after about five failed attempts i dropped it off and he calls me this afternoon and tells me "good news", I found why it won't boot up! I say: Great, so did you get it going? and he says: well, that's the bad news!! sure enough, hard drive crashed, it can't find the boot program, disk severely corrupted. etc. Oh yeah!! This is good stuff!! A rather pricey Dell tablet PC and it's not worth a crapola and due to my own .... shall we say lack of diligence :innocent: ...... of course, you guessed it: NO back up!!! Yes!!! I love this stuff! Well; compost happens, I know I'll be trying to figure what i can salvage from this mess, heck might even start a back up regimen. Wonder if i can claim no income for 2009 now :rotfl:

I'm attaching a pic from one of my current shocks on the sidecar, I need to replace/upgrade these puppies so the wheel will not wear a hole in the sidecar floor (this is a leaner with the wheel centered under the rider's rear). As you can see on the attached pic this shock is 13" O.C. +/-. The shock is also agled about 60 degrees so dampening is diminished. I know that getting a longer shock will give me more clearance. So, unless anyone here has a good set they want to part with that would fit my needs, I will be shopping on E-Bay, what can you tell me I should look for so I don't wind up wasting my money on something way too light for my needs? Or would i be better of to just get a new set?
