Or Start Walking. Anyway today, I rode in to work. Wind Chill in the teens, but the Gerbings kept me warm and cozy for the entire ride. I think I was the only rider within a 50 mile radius.

If you could have one new accessory added what would it be?

I've been wanting that for the last three years. -
We have a 30% chance of snow later this pm. 30% is so small that it might not really happen. So if we don't get anything today, I will for sure ride tomorrow to work. My Gerbings are ready to go this winter. Winter riding is my best time of the year...you hardly sweat.

Happy New Year to everyone as well. Glad to see Equal Opportunity for the sexes. Ride Safe all year long.

I like to get a set of nice LED side markers that are plenty bright...preferably much better that what is available right now for the Venture. Will wait until Custom Dynamics come up with a nice set for our bikes. -
ok folks, here is mine.

That sounds a little odd. On my bike, it is a left over '07 and I bought the bike towards the end of '08. Since it was bought in '08 as a new bike, my 5 Year Warranty will not expire 5 Years from the date I purchased the bike.

Are you talking about the plug on the side of the 'jug' that one would normally pull out during a coolant replacement? Glad to hear that the issue has been resolved and covered under warranty.

This is the part that I have not really paid attention to. I know it is a gamble, but I keep on telling myself to always keep track of my key...in the long run, it can be trouble/misplaced key waiting to happen. I will have to think hard about this and try to come up with a plan to carry a spare (I just hate carrying extra keys). The idea of hiding it 'somewhere' is on top of my list.

Why...Where...Who...What...How((?)(?)(?)(?)(?))

As expected, you will always pay premium price if you get it from a dealer. I guess the only good thing is that your spare key will have the Star Logo on the Key itself. The Locksmith may not have those beautiful looking keys like the OEMs.

Congrats on all of the things you have accomplished for your health. Stay with the program and don't let yourself slip. I am sure you already made some important changes in your daily life. Regards.

Sounds like you are back to normal. No worries now. 2 Weeks of not starting the bike is way too long, IMO. As soon as you get the opportunity to ride with all the roads clear enough, give your Venture a nice ride...bundle up.

If you decide to follow this, make sure you have a fire extinguisher close to you.

I also wasted my money on a pair of battery operated heated gloves. They are never warm enough for me especially for riding. The best that money can buy for heated gloves would be Gerbings. Riding at 20° temps and below - you will want something that will keep up with the cold. I also prefer a direct source of power coming from the bike for extended 1 hour or more trips.

My newer cars are equipped with Bluetooth and they are programmed to synch with my cellphone automatically everytime I get in the 'cage'. On my older car, I have a Bluetooth earpiece that I always use. I practice this safety feature and I expect that every driver on a 'cage' do the same. I heard that cell phone ban is strictly being enforced in the DC area and anyone caught using a cellphone (not hands free) in DC will surely get a citation and a hefty fine. It is a matter of time that Bluetooth will be standard equipment on all vehicles...right now it is an option. I know it is adamant for people to follow safety rules in terms of cell phone use, but we should all contribute to this cause. As a rider, I always see people talking on the phone and driving and steering with just one hand.

Riding my moto is a large part of my daily life, so it is logical for me to check this forum everyday. I just wish this site would support Mobile Internet users...I do use my Blackberry to check posts everywhere I go.

Oldest & YOungest: WHO WAS 77 YR OLD RIDER? Lost record. Help!

Is that a hint...so if you can still remember, it has not been that long. Sounds like you are in good hands. -
For my bike if it sat all night regardless of the outside temperature, I still have to pull the choke to start it. Once the bike is warmed up pretty good, you can sense the sound of the engine and it is ready to go. The Venture carbs does need a lot of TLC...our Venture does not need to sit in the garage too long.
-
May be a good time to replace spark plugs as well, if you haven't done that yet. fyi, your local auto parts store should carry the OEM NGK plugs. I got mine at Advance Auto for a buck and some change each.
-
For an '01 with less than 5K miles is in no doubt that it sat very long in a garage before being started again. I have very little knowledge on the Venture Carb system, but I am almost certain that it is a carb and fuel issue. +1 on the 44K additive...I've heard good reports about that in this forum but rather expensive. To put the bike on choke for more than 5 minutes is way too long. When I ride on 20° temps, I only choke my bike for almost about a minute and simply let it idle to warm up for up to 4 to 5 minutes. I hope you can get that bike behave normally. It is a good find. Good Luck.

Sylverstar lamps are typically brighter and may look whiter than the OEM bulbs. When it is time to replace lamps, I am definitely going to get Sylvania bulbs.

I think I have enough snow for the entire winter season. Yesterday was just something in terms of the amount of snow in a 24 hour period. It just won't let up and at time I wondered, when will it ever end. As for snow shovels, they are for sure a prime commodity in the East Coast.
-
Sorry to hear about your slip. But glad to hear that those guards are in place and protected your bike from any major damage. Be careful out there...black ice is one of our worst enemies this season. Over here, we just had about 2 feet of snow so with me slipping on ice is very likely. No riding this week and I hope for the best next week after the rain. Ride safely.
