Fender Ornament Stock?
Freebird replied to Mordalo's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
No, that is not a stock Yamaha item. I've seen those in several catalogs and on Ebay but I'm not sure who makes it. -
Glad it didn't end in a worse manner. Some drivers should just NOT be on the road. I had an problem yesterday also. I was not on the bike but in my company van. I was driving down I77 headed to Kentucky. There was a slow truck in the right lane so I pulled into the left lane. Had my cruise set on about 72 MPH and a good ways back from the truck still. Another car was driving behind the truck and had a lot of time to pull out ahead of me and pass the truck but stayed behind him. I guess then he decided that he wanted to pull out but by this time, I was almost even with his back bumper. My cruise was still set and I was getting around at a decent pace but apparently not quick enough for the other car. As I passed him, he looked at me and was screaming something. I just ignored it and went on. Then he pulled out behind me, got right on my tail and gave me a single finger salute with both hands. I'm usually fairly easy going but for whatever reason, I just got mad...very mad and very quickly. As we got around the truck, he pulled up beside me and again flipped me off. I motioned for him to pull over to the side of the road and then I pulled ahead and in front of him in the right lane, slowed down, turned on my turn signal and pulled onto the shoulder so that we could...uh...discuss the matter. He slowed and I thought was going to stop but then I guess he had second thoughts, pulled around me and kept going. When I passed him again, he wouldn't even look at me. I went on and he decided to slow down a bit and apparently wasn't in as big a hurry as he thought. Too bad, seemed like a nice guy and I would have liked to talk to him.

I've seen those before and think they are a GREAT idea for somebody who is maybe having problems with their knees or something but are not ready to give up riding.

Geezzz...tough crowd. I say GREAT JOB. Now AKRefugee has to come up with the next challenge.

You will probably never have another problem with it. Glad it turned out to be a quick fix for you. I sure would like to know what caused it but we may never know. -

Jonas, Congrats. You don't need no shrink...well....maybe you do but if that's the case, then all of us probably do. One word of warning. There are a LOT of bogus second chance offers being sent out on Ebay. PLEASE verify that the offer actually came from the owner before sending any money.

I also think that about twice a year is a good rule of thumb. It's so easy to do, I generally check mine more often but it's not necessary. You may well feel less vibration and the floorboards and possibly a little better gas mileage.

Frame Cracked Under Seat
Freebird replied to DMooch's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This is a great thread and is sure something that everybody needs to check on their own bikes. Most of my riding, at least on longer trips, is two up and pulling a trailer that is usually loaded heavier than it should be. I just went out and inspected my '99 and it looks fine. I can see no cracked paint or any other signs of stress. If I see any other reports of this happening though, I will be looking at a way to reinforce that area. -
OK folks...the Ebay listing has ended but the main purpose of it was to promote our club. There are still plenty of patches available and you can order them direct from me. As for the guardian bells, I think I only have about 10 remaining at this time. You can see a picture of them and the patches under the "VentureRider Merchandise" topic area. I will order more guardian bells at some point but it may be a while.

I think I have about 200 left. You can PayPal to dnelson@venturerider.org $3.00 per patch includes shipping. If you don't use PayPal, send me a PM and I'll give you a mailing address.

Good deal. I can take that one off the worry tree.

Well folks, I did get it working later last night. I already have a wireless network in the house and it is still up and working. I plan to keep both services for a while until I am sure that this Verizon DSL is going to be reliable. I bought a second wireless router for the Verizon service so now I have two wireless networks running. Both are working great now. The problem was that I couldn't get the Verizon modem to sync, which I had to get resolved before starting on the wireless part of it. I have nothing connected to ANY of the jacks. I had my land lines turned off about a year ago, we are all cellular phone in the house now. This is a new number for the DSL, dry loop service because there is no active land line. There are no other devices of any kind plugged into any of the jacks. I found that there were three phone cables hooked up to the DSL line in the junction box coming into the house. I disconnected two of them and left only one hooked up. I ended up cutting it right inside the basement where it comes into the house and installed a jack there and connected the modem. Now there is only about 3 ft. of cable between the jack where the modem is plugged into and the box outside. It syncs up just fine now. I then connected the modem to the new Wireless router so the modem and wireless router and installed in the basement and working fine. I was a bit worried about it being in the basement but the signal is very strong on the first floor as well as the bedrooms on the second floor so it looks OK at this point. If I have any problems, I'll run a new cat 5 cable from the junction box up to the first floor but it looks like it will be OK as is. I ended up buying a Linksys Wireless N MIMO router not because I think it's the best but because the price was right and it's actually working great. With the modem and router in the basement, my speeds are fine. Test speed to test servers in Washington D.C., Dallas, TX and Los Angeles, I'm getting consistent downloads over 2800 kbps and uploads close to 800 kbps. I signed up for the 3000 kbps download package so that is pretty close. I ran these tests from the bedroom on the second floor so the router is providing a good signal through the house. All is good right now.

The good news is that after waiting for about 6 weeks, Verizon FINALLY got my DSL installed today. The bad news is that it will only work if I take my computer outside, sit it on the central air unit, run an extension cord around the house to plug the DLS modem into, and connect it directly to the telephone junction box. The modem will sync out there but not when I connect it in the house. Apparently I've got some sort of problem with my internal wiring. Too many outlets or something. The thing is, we don't even use any hard wired phones in the house, only cellular, so I just have to trace out the jacks and disconnect some or just run a new cat 5 wire from the junction box outside. Maybe I'll get around to that tomorrow.

If they aren't there by Saturday, let me know and I'll send again. I DID. Too bad nobody was home when I delivered them.

I've seen a lot of you mention that you will be coming to Maintenance day but many of you have not signed up on the calendar. Please do so. It really helps me to determine how much food I'm going to need. This link will take you right to the calendar page where you can register. Even if you are a "maybe".....let me know. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=73&day=2008-6-7&c=1

OK folks. After getting several emails from members asking me to continue in my pursuit of this project, I'm giving it another try. I am presently in contact with several manufacturers in an attempt to get something more affordable. Most of these things are made in China. As some of you know, I worked for a company in Hong Kong for about 12 years so I do have some contacts in Hong Kong and China. I've made some direct contact with manufacturers there and will report back when I know more.

If you are going to build a trike with the two wheels on the front, you may as well do it right. http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/11/20/tilting-v-max-trike-by-tilting-motor-works/

I guess technically it's a trike...to me though...it's more of a cage.

I can't answer your question but if you want one to experiment with, there is one ending on Ebay in about 45 minutes. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-V-Max-Star-Primary-Clutch-Basket-Gear_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35600QQihZ009QQitemZ190210726768QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW -
How to Remove Your 2nd Gen Radiator Well let me start off by saying 14 months ago I had a little Mishap, http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2437&highlight=Radiator+Leak I had to remove my Radiator and I decided to have it welded. Seems that part Held up ok... but now I have another leak, so here go’s Also, I had to use my Daughters Dig Camera and the pictures are not that great But I hope this helps someone if needed. (Note: all left and right are As if I was sitting on the bike) # 1 Remove the two bolts on the left and right lower fairings (# 4 mm Allen Wrench) #2 Look way under the bottom in the middle of the two lower fairings there will be A black plastic screw that helps hold the lower fairings together... the black bolt goes into this hole. #3 now remove the one bolt on the other sides near your air filters #4 here is a critical part in removing the two half’s. Make sure you Remove the RIGHT Lower fairing first, or you will most likely break on of these tabs, if you do JB Weld holds them back In place just fine. I know this because I broke on last year! This is how the two half’s look a bit apart left/right #5 remove the white plastic hose holder down under at the bottom of the lower fairings. #6 Now remove the black power wire on the left side for the fan this will be located on the left side. #7 Now remove the drain plug and drain the antifreeze. #8 Now the FUN part… loosen the top clamp for the rad hose. And next the lower clamp, I did notice the first time I loosened The clap after the factory had placed them they were very hard To get to.. Now I placed them so I can remove them in the future If needed. #9 The Bottom hose MUST be removed first, stick a screwdriver Or whatever in base of the hose to loosen it a bit. Do not tear the hose. Just deal with it and it will come loose sooner or later. #10 now work on removing that top hose in the same manner, As it starts to come loose you will be removing the Rad with A pulling downward motion and also remove it from the top TAB HOLDER. #11 Now with the RAD kind of hanging in place make sure you might want to put a towel on the rear of the front fender as well.. DISCONNET the Orange Plug from the Temp Censer. Squeeze the top/rear and it will pull right off. Now you have removed the Radiator. Here are some shoots not very good but what to Remove from the Rad before having it Welded Or Adding the Rad Parts back onto a new one Like I just ordered.. I will have this one checked And re-welded for a back-up in the future maybe. Here are some pics of how my old one looks now and the old Weld, looks like it help up.. I also have ordered a NEW RADITATOR Cover from Steve. To match my MM Venture. So maybe this will my love of removing 2nd Gen Radiators? http://www.wagnercustomproducts.com/ Should look very kewl! I hope nobody has to go through this ever! And if So I hope this helps you a bit. Feel free to PM me if you need to contact Me about this project if you ever have to do this. Thanks again Scotty. There are SOME threads that I REALLY try to ignore. I just refuse to picture this. I know I would be haunted by such a mental image.

OK...straight from the Odyssey Battery web site. There is another class of chargers that is designed specifically to maintain the battery in a high state of charge. These chargers, such as the 1.25 amp Battery Tender® from Deltran are not capable of charging a deeply discharged ODYSSEY® battery. This is due to the fact that these chargers have very low output power. They should only be used either to continuously compensate for parasitic losses or to maintain a trickle charge on a fully charged stored battery. Note what I changed to red. That is exactly what we are talking about here. The Battery Tender has worked great for that. At least it has for me.
