  1. Just stay on 27 south of Harriman to Spring City. South of Spring City just as it becomes a 4 lane, 68 east goes off to the left. Stay on that through Tellico Plains and on to the Cherohala (sp?) Skyway into North Carolina to hwy 129 home. I wouldn't ever miss the chance to be that close and not ride the Skyway. Have a great, fun and safe trip however you get there. Just get there!
  2. What would you give for a used set of Bubs to fit your Venture? They have approximately 15-16000 miles on them. Yes, the tips have the usual flaking. I'm thinking $50 plus a case of beer and you come and get them and we go for a ride here in God's country!!! South central Kentucky! Down on beautiful Lake Cumberland. (No, you can't ride your bike "on" the Lake)
  3. I'll try to explain where my problem exists. On the side of the rear fender, bolted to the fender, there is a chrome strip that the passenger "Oh Sh** handle" and the forward luggage rack support bolts to. I found two bolts missing, one for the passenger handle and the front luggage rack support. My question is; Are there nuts on the inside of that chrome strip, or are there threads built into the strip or some kind of plate fixed on the inside of the chrome strip that the bolts screw in to? Do I need to remove this strip? Does it require removal of the rear wheel? Thanks in advance for any answers.
  4. Don't forget Kentucky after leaving Jackson, Tn. you could do Nashville if you really wanted to, but then head a little north back and forth along the border of Tenn and Ky. Jump up on 92 through southeast Ky. Stop in Middlesboro, Ky and drive up the overlook. Then head up 119 to Kingdom Come State Park. (Then when some one says they've been blown to Kingdom come, you'll know how far they went). Continue up 119 to 460/80 and stay at the Breaks Interstate Park on the Ky/Va border. Tell them you want room 101-107 overlooking the gorge. Then in the morning the deer will wake you up walking on your deck. From there, it is just any wonderful road over to Roanoke. I'd suggest going a little north of Roanoke and bring the Blue Ridge Parkway down into it. Can't go wrong in these areas. Have a safe and fun trip!
  5. I'm in the trucking business and have been in quite a few states this last few weeks and have watched the warm weather bring out our fellow riders! BUT, has the rules changed over the winter and I didn't get the memo? More and more groups of two or more have the lead bike on the right hand side of the lane (right). I ask someone on the radio and got one of those moronic responses, "I'll ride any damn way I want too". I'm thinking he just wishes he could ride and if he ever gets to he wants to be a Hells Angel and be rebellious. But, seriously, has anyone else noticed this?
  6. Well, that sounds like the attitude of the head cliques in STAR. Why I no longer waste money there. Spend it wiser on enjoyable outings. I'd go along with spending cash on romantic weekend in cabin and storing up brownie points later when needed!
  7. Anyone in the South cental Kentucky area? I've often wandered if there is anyone in this area and two separate events have occured that makes me ask. First, I often read the Jokes and Humor threads posted on this site and share with others some of the better ones,(keep them coming folks) when in my local paper there was some of the jokes verbatum in the editorial section. Second, I had a conversation with a lady at one of my customers, about 15 minutes from the house, on her poster of a "Star" customized bike and lo and behold she and her husband love to ride but doesn't know anyone in the area and would like to meet people to ride. Problem solved for her! Anyway, just was wandering if there is folks close by.
  8. For the post! Amen! That's all I can say. Except that I am the proud father of a 2003 US Naval Academy Graduate. Another great instituion.
  9. In the manual it will tell you how to turn the Roger Beep on or off. I'm not at home or I could tell you. I think you have to push middle button until RogerBeep-on then puch left button to display RogerBeep-off.
  10. ..I can give without typing for hours on all to see and do, on and off the BRP is, whatever you decide, decide it REAL quick and make reservations NOW. Some of the places on the BRP and right off of it are booked a year ahead of time. Enjoy!
  11. We have the '04 and have installed Bub's. They are about right for us. If you really wind it up they can get loud. But normal driving, they are the sound you describe. But as has been stated, the chrome will peel on the end caps.
  12. Not in Kentucky! Believe me, I would love to envoked that on Yamaha. BUT, not in Kentucky. No lemon law on motorcycles in Ky. Check with your state.
  13. ...mine certainly was not! Mine was the transmission! And I believe there are many many others out here that are the same. Our noise became so bad that we turned down the IC and still didn't help. Finally got a mechanic at another dealer to ride it because of a carb issue and he came back and said "the carbs aren't too bad, BUT how do you stand that noise". A friend of mines RSV is in the shop now because of the noise, first diagnosed the "clutch basket" and sent away to just ignore it. I believe Yamaha has a SERIOUS transmission problem out here that is being incorrectly diagnosed. Think about it, what is the first thing EVERYONE says when someone new to these bikes brings up "a whine or noise"? I have an '04 white RSV and when the warranty is gone, so is the bike. And unless someone other than the present leadership/owner/management is in charge of Yamaha, there won't be another one. I had the R* before the Venture and really have enjoyed the bikes just not the problems and the way they are handled. Way too much money involved to be treated this way. Okay, I'm stepping down off the box.
  14. BigJohn, trucking isn't for most. Being 48 you should have an established life and hopefully a good woman with you. She will need to be to put up with the things you won't have control over out here. Don't forget her when these instances happen. Between shippers, consignees, traffic, construction and constant...changing of minds of your dispatchers. When you are so close to home you can smell it and they turn you around and send you out because of some lame reason (like you are the only one avalable). Then she gets mad at you...sometimes it gets tough. But if you both understand things beyond your control, then it is easier. On the positive side, take time when you are some place you've never been and take a picture. Late at night, no traffic, good music you and the Good Lord riding down the highway, he sure has made an incredible place. Remember, in a truck, it's not just a fender bender. It's a life. Think of others, and please don't adapt the attitude "everybody else does it". I make a good living. I own mine from the Company to the trucks and trailers. Wouldn't want it any other way. I don't work well with others. LOL:rotf:
  15. Or, that is how long they kept mine! Dealer had to jump through hoops and Rep wasn't readily available and tried the old trial and error parts replacement until the noise went away. Actually, to the benefit of many RSV owners today, mine was the guinea pig when the ever popular "clutch basket" isn't the problem. But, the others are right, can't do any work until the check writer says so. Here's another bit of advice I found during my nine week vacation from riding (during prime riding season). You WILL waste your time calling the so called Customer Service Representatives (what a joke) in California. If you think your dealer is making you mad, and you are ready to jump up and down, call California!!! Just be sure you have someone standing by in case of stroke or heart failure! Don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, just reporting the facts.
