That's not true. Some of it is vacuum metalized but MUCH of it is chromed. I was in that business for a lot of years and sold and installed a good number of automated electroplating machines for plating on plastics. I sold a huge machine to a company outside of Mexico City for the purpose of chrome plating plastic grills for the Chrysler corporation.

No, I think it's something that I may have to do myself.

LOL....I wish that was all it was. Sometimes you hurt more for a loved one than you would for yourself.

If we have any members who are in law enforcement in the Longview, Texas area, please sent me a private message and let me know. I'm looking for some advice on an issue.

am I getting ripped off ?
Freebird replied to Gogosa's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Maintenance Day's are what we all call it when we get together to work on the bikes, visit, usually eat...then eat...and then eat. They are held at random times across the country. The original one here, and what many simply refer to as MD or Maintenance Day is the one that I hold annually. It is held at my house in Oberlin, OH and I think last year there were about 250 VenureRider's present. The date this year is June 4th. Here is a link to it in the Regional Rally area. Now don't think that you are too far away, people come from as far away as Texas, Florida, various parts of Canada...all over. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53655 -
OK...I also just found this method on YouTube. I have no idea how well it would really work but his results look good. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDpObLuJVeQ]YouTube - Stripping chrome from Plastic parts[/ame]

The little bit of knowledge that I have about this and a little bit of searching confirms that the only real way is to deplate it. Caswell is supplier of plating systems and supplies and has a forum at their site. Here is a link with some information. http://forum.caswellplating.com/electroplating-questions/8279-chrome-stripping.html It may not be something that you want to do at home and may actually require that you find a shop that actually does chrome plating on plastic that can remove it for you. A lot of people don't realize that plastic can actually be chrome plated. I used to work in the plating industry and sold a lot of equipment to shops that chrome plated on plastic. It involved first using an electroless copper base. Basically it is a process that uses a chemical reaction to coat the plastic with copper. Once the copper base is in place, you then have a conductive surface to electroplate the nickel and then finally the clear chromate.

You got it. Cruel and unusual punishment is what it was.

You DID remind me of the little prank that he pulled on me at maintenance day. I had forgotten all about it. Not nice....just wasn't nice at all.
-
HEY.....you don't have to get all snitty about it. Actually, I probably didn't get a WHOLE lot more than that in. I sure hope we do better this year.

It would have to go WAY higher than that. When you think about it, $40.00 for a 500 mile weekend. What is that? Probably 10 hours of riding? Where else can you get 10 hours of great entertainment and soul cleansing therapy for $40.00? How much does it cost to go to a ball game or even a movie and neither of those would give you 10 hours of entertainment.

OK...I just did an in depth study and found that the Canadians have had threads deleted at a rate of 4 to 1 over Americans. BUT...if you take Swifty out of the equation, it is pretty equal. Not really, I'm not going to all that trouble. To be honest, if you look at the total number of threads that have been posted here, the number that have been deleted is almost negligible. We are fortunate to have a great group of members here that are very good at self moderation.

LOL...in my DREAMS. Yamaha USA doesn't even talk to me. Now Yamaha Canada has supported us by showing up at our rally there with shirts, caps, etc. They were great to us.

Yea, I remember those days. Heck chili may be the Owl's specialty but I know that COUNTING is NOT.

LOL...I've purposely left her name and location out because it would be too easy for some of the jokesters here have too much fun with it.
-
LOL...so what you are really saying is that some things haven't changed at all.

Is it the same model? I've heard some great things about some of the Bridgestone tires, just not the model that came on the RSV.
-
Well, I hated the Bridgestone also. I found them to break loose VERY easily on some road surfaces when wet. I also found that they cupped very quickly and then became very noisy.
-
They were too late. I bought it a few minutes ago. I sent a money order to an escrow company somewhere in Zimbabwe. The bike is being shipped to me from where it was stored in a top secret warehouse at Area 52. If I don't like it, he is going to pay for return shipping also and refund all my money plus $500.00 for my trouble.
-
Yes, I've done it a few times and I agree that it has to be a certain road surface. I also know that it is very true that they will pull the front wheel off the ground.
-
WOW...I would be really frustrated by now. My son has had a Droid 2 for probably 6 - 8 months and has never had any problems at all with it. I was actually thinking about getting one until my company decided that we all had to carry a Blackberry.

Passing Lamp Spacer
Freebird replied to bertnernie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Unfortunately, he can't post them to the classifies because he never became a supporting member. I know that he does a good job on the spacers though. Now, I'm not trying to change anybody's mind about these but just stating another side of the issue for those who are on the fence about the spacer. Some people, me being one of them, do not like it. I personally don't like the look as well when the lights are spaced out but even more importantly, I think that it increases the risk of breaking the brackets that hold the lower wind deflectors. The rubber bumpers on the deflectors should touch the fork tube covers. That stabilizes the deflectors so that the vibration caused by wind does not cause them to break so easily. A lot of those brackets do break eventually and I think that spacing them out so that the rubber bumper does not make contact makes the problem worse. Just my opinion and the other side of the story.- 15 replies

Yea, there are a few people...maybe just one I'm not sure...who are sitting like vultures just waiting on something like that to jump on.
-
Yea, I thought about you and that is why I deleted it so quickly.
-
No, I have been out of them for a while. Sorry. If there is enough interest in them and Shaun wants to have some made up, that is fine with me. I don't know where you want to put one but the domed would look great on a car too.
