  1. The first time I ever personally saw black chrome was actually on a Yamaha. I don't remember the year ... probably middle 80's...but the Midnight Special Maxim had black chrome headers and mufflers.
  2. Well Shaun, I'm honestly not trying to rain on your parade but I think that Brad (Squidley) was selling them for something like $2.00. I may be WAY off, don't remember for sure. Maybe he'll see this and join in.
  3. That actually may be the best solution. I actually don't have a problem if you guys want to post them in more than one area. Some of you did that anyway because you have products that were suitable for the First Gen area, Second Gen area, Royal Star, All bikes, etc. Maybe I'll just leave it up to the member vendor. If they would rather post their ads in the regular section, they can do so.
  4. OH....I thought you were doing our oval logo. To be honest, that does sound high. Squidley had some of those make up in about that same size. It just said venturerider.org and some of us have them across the bottom of our windshields. Is that what you are having made? Just a text sticker that says VentureRiders or venturerider.org? If so, I'm sorry but he is giving you a high price. Also, Squidley may even still have some, I'm not sure.
  5. A lot of your memberships are coming due during this month and next. I'm getting quite a few emails from people asking me when their dues are due. If you go to the UserCP and then scroll down and click on "subscriptions", it will show when your current membership expires. You should receive an automated email a few days before your memberships are up for renewal. You may renew anytime you wish though. If you renew early, you will NOT lose any months. A year is just added to your current expiration date.
  6. ahhh.....now I understand. I missed the picture that you posted that showed exactly what you were looking for. Yes, these would be too long. Sorry about that.
  7. I just posted another thread about this in the General Tech Talk area as I think there will be some good discussion on these batteries that we might want to keep around for a while.
  8. These batteries have been mentioned a few times here lately. Webbike World has a pretty decent article on them right now. I actually find some of the user comments at the end of their comparison to be even more informative that the article itself. From reading some of the user comments, I'm not sure that these batteries are right for touring bikes with heavy current draws. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-battery/li-ion-motorcycle-battery/shorai-vs-ballistic-li-ion-motorcycle-battery.htm
  9. OK folks, it has come to my attention that the area that I created in the classifieds for our member vendors may not have been a good idea. I created that area to make it easy to find our members who also offer us some pretty nice products at good prices. I am now hearing though that it is making their products harder to find. For example, if you didn't KNOW that Rick Butler offers seat mods for motorcycles, it would be hard to find it. You would have to open Member Vendors and then click on Rick Butler to even find out what he offers our members. So, should I get rid of that area and just move the ads back to their respective categories?
  10. Thank you...that DOES help save me some time. I tell you, sometimes reading these posts is like watching TV...you KNOW what they mean but they don't actually say anything bad.
  11. I think this is the most posts I've ever had to delete at one time. Geezzzzzzz......I'm be glad when we can all ride again.
  12. Diamond R Accessories makes a nice one also and comes with all you need to install it on the RSV. They are also a loyal supporter of VentureRider.org http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=15%60%60%20Slimline%20LED%20Lightbar
  13. I'm never used the Red Kote but have used Kreem in an old CL350 tank. I'm not saying that it is better or worse than Red Kote but it worked just fine. You started by putting some nuts, bolts, gravel, whatever in the tank and shake it for a good while to help break loose any rust. Then you flushed it out and there was an acid solution that you used to prepare it for the coating. Then you put in the Kreem and rotate the tank for a while to ensure that is was evenly coated. I think you turned it a few more times at certain intervals but i don't remember for sure. It ended up with an almost epoxy like lining on the inside. There are actually a few videos on YouTube showing the process of Kreeming and probably Red Kote also.
  14. I think the LI batteries are worth watching. I'm not ready to spend that kind of money on a battery but they may well be the future. At this point though, they would have to last me about 10 years before I considered them a good value at that price. I figure they will get cheaper once there is some competition.
  15. That's not true. Some of it is vacuum metalized but MUCH of it is chromed. I was in that business for a lot of years and sold and installed a good number of automated electroplating machines for plating on plastics. I sold a huge machine to a company outside of Mexico City for the purpose of chrome plating plastic grills for the Chrysler corporation.
  16. No, I think it's something that I may have to do myself.
  17. LOL....I wish that was all it was. Sometimes you hurt more for a loved one than you would for yourself.
  18. If we have any members who are in law enforcement in the Longview, Texas area, please sent me a private message and let me know. I'm looking for some advice on an issue.
  19. Maintenance Day's are what we all call it when we get together to work on the bikes, visit, usually eat...then eat...and then eat. They are held at random times across the country. The original one here, and what many simply refer to as MD or Maintenance Day is the one that I hold annually. It is held at my house in Oberlin, OH and I think last year there were about 250 VenureRider's present. The date this year is June 4th. Here is a link to it in the Regional Rally area. Now don't think that you are too far away, people come from as far away as Texas, Florida, various parts of Canada...all over. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53655
  20. OK...I also just found this method on YouTube. I have no idea how well it would really work but his results look good. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDpObLuJVeQ]YouTube - Stripping chrome from Plastic parts[/ame]
  21. The little bit of knowledge that I have about this and a little bit of searching confirms that the only real way is to deplate it. Caswell is supplier of plating systems and supplies and has a forum at their site. Here is a link with some information. http://forum.caswellplating.com/electroplating-questions/8279-chrome-stripping.html It may not be something that you want to do at home and may actually require that you find a shop that actually does chrome plating on plastic that can remove it for you. A lot of people don't realize that plastic can actually be chrome plated. I used to work in the plating industry and sold a lot of equipment to shops that chrome plated on plastic. It involved first using an electroless copper base. Basically it is a process that uses a chemical reaction to coat the plastic with copper. Once the copper base is in place, you then have a conductive surface to electroplate the nickel and then finally the clear chromate.
  22. You got it. Cruel and unusual punishment is what it was.
  23. You DID remind me of the little prank that he pulled on me at maintenance day. I had forgotten all about it. Not nice....just wasn't nice at all.
  24. HEY.....you don't have to get all snitty about it. Actually, I probably didn't get a WHOLE lot more than that in. I sure hope we do better this year.
  25. It would have to go WAY higher than that. When you think about it, $40.00 for a 500 mile weekend. What is that? Probably 10 hours of riding? Where else can you get 10 hours of great entertainment and soul cleansing therapy for $40.00? How much does it cost to go to a ball game or even a movie and neither of those would give you 10 hours of entertainment.
