  1. That's funny. In 1998 I was camping at Glencoe at Sturgis. There was a guy camping next to me that was on the phone with his wife in Texas. He walked over and said "WOW...she is MAD". He just couldn't understand why she was upset. Apparently she was at work and his friend stopped by and asked him if he wanted to go to Sturgis...he said "sure" and took off. he said "I left her a note on the kitchen table so it's not like I didn't tell her".
  2. We will miss you at maintenance day but there will be another one next year and your health is the most important thing right now. I'm glad to hear that things are looking good and will pray that the news continues to be good. I know that time off is an issue but if you decide to fly out here to MD, you KNOW that we will be at the airport to pick you up.
  3. Are you you too far away to make it to my Maintenance Day? Well let's see...I've had members attend from as far as Texas, Louisiana, Florida...heck....even from as far away as Iceland and Australia so how can you POSSIBLY be too far away. It's really easy...just straddle that scoot and point it towards Ohio. Nothing to it. COWBOY UP and come on over.
  4. Yes, and Dingy put together a GREAT post to show what we mean. Everybody please take a look at it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=58880
  5. I'm with Larry on the Sorento. My wife was driving an '04 and it was great. A year ago, we traded it in on the new '11 model when they first came out. When we went looking for a new car, we looked at a lot of different small to mid size SUVs but she wanted another Sorento. She has been very pleased with it and I'm perfectly happy with the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. The '04 was 4X4 but the new one is full time AWD. We drove it to Texas last summer and averaged about 28 MPG and that's not bad for a mid sized AWD SUV.
  6. Folks, I just got home after a LONG week of meetings in Minnesota. I want to thank V7Goose and all our moderators for the great job that they have done here. I decided to delete most of these threads as most were just arguments one way or the other about why we should or shouldn't delete threads and etc. The fact is, the REASONS have been discussed here many times and the rules set long ago. The purpose of Kent's original post was to refresh people's memories and educate any new members who might not have been aware. We have heard the opinions on both sides of these issues many times and there is no reason to go over it all again. Thanks to all of your for your understanding.
  7. Hey...that VentureRider decal is the PERFECT finishing touch.
  8. Folks, I am in Minnesota for our semi-annual sales meeting. This is always a busy week as we have meeting from about 8:00 in the morning till usually about 9:00 at night. I usually manage to check my messages and etc. in the morning and later in the evening but just don't have a lot of time this week. If you send me a message or a request, please understand that the reply times are a bit delayed right now.
  9. I have them too but I just added the wind deflectors. I didn't have to readjust my pegs at all but just haven't gotten to ride since adding them so really can't comment yet.
  10. I just found this article, one of many out there, that better explains what I am saying. http://autos.yahoo.com/maintain/repairqa/fluids_heat_air_conditioning/ques019_2.html
  11. I've never used it but have no reason to doubt what you are seeing with your temp gauge. My only question would be is it GOOD that it is running 20 degrees cooler? I know that automobiles and motorcycles are designed to run at certain temperatures. That's why they have thermostats that don't open until they get to the recommended temp. It used to be pretty common for cars to run thermostats that were calibrated at 160F or 180F but many now run in the 200F, 205F, etc. range. The engines are designed to run at their highest efficiency at the recommended temperatures so I'm just not convinced that adding anything that causes them to run at a lower temp that designed for is a good thing.
  12. Yesterday, my wife and I were talking about the International Rally in Cody. It is really a lot sooner than you think. I hope that all of you are thinking about and making plans to attend. We are excited about it because neither of us have ever spent any time in that area and there is so much history to see there. It is going to be a GREAT time and I'm really surprised that more have not already signed up for it. Please start thinking about it and get registered ASAP. You are going to miss a great time if you aren't there.
  13. OK folks....there are still 35 maybes in on the RSVP list of the calendar. If you are still truly a maybe, that is fine but if you know for sure, please go back and change your status. Thanks
  14. But you didn't close the history book. Buell was shut down in October of 2009.
  15. The Diamond R backrest and the Utopia backrest both have pouches on them. Both are similar and install the same way. Diamond R has been a great supporter of our site so I always recommend them first. http://www.diamondraccessories.com Utopia makes a great product also though. http://www.utpr.com/
  16. Really sorry to hear it David. We will keep you in our prayers and I know that things will turn out OK. There will be another maintenance day next year. You will be missed though.
  17. Only about 165 people signed up for Freebird's Maintenance Day. Heck folks, we had about 250 last year. It's getting close now so please go to the calendar and sign up if you are coming. I want to make sure that I order enough food. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=220&day=2011-6-4&c=1
  18. I've only ever talked to ONE person who was riding one. It was a lady that was riding with her husband who was on a wing. She told me that she had a VStar at home but decided to ride the Buell that day and that it was the wrong decision. She said that she really hated it. When I asked her why, she complained about everything from vibration to seating position and pretty much everything else. Like I said though, that was just one opinion.
  19. You got my vote. Good luck.
  20. They look like angels when they are sleeping but tiny terrors when awake. I would be interested if I didn't already have my full quota of pets.
  21. Hey...I started on that project last weekend. Opened the package, read the instructions and everything. Just not enough hours in the day right now to do everything that needs done before Maintenance Day.
  22. Freebird

    Scam?

Thanks for noticing. I removed the link.
  23. Twigg is correct in the grand scheme of things but the fact is, if it is just a small puncture, it will have a very negligible effect if any. It won't reduce back pressure nearly as much as most of the after market mufflers that people install. If it's just a small puncture and the sound doesn't drive you crazy, it wouldn't bother me to ride it many miles.
  24. About the same as always. The non-supporting members were removed long ago per the request of the majority of the members here. Their profiles are still intact but they are not included in them members list.
  25. Have you lowered the front by sliding the forks up in the tubes? If so, that would give you much less room.
