OK folks, I went ahead and ordered a set of Sonic Springs. Goose reminded me that now would be the time to install new springs if I had the desire to do so. So, that is another thing that you will see done if you decide to attend this clinic.

The early Royal Stars didn't have near the HP of the '99 and up RSV and the new model RSTDs. The RSV and RSTDs put about about 99 HP at the crank. I don't remember for sure but I think your Royal Star was made somewhere around 65 HP. Maybe a bit more but I know if was a lot less. -

Yep, you have to remove the lower right cowling to get to it. -
I'm not sure. I never take the collar with me. I agree with Twigg, it's a light weight piece right around the axle and is just not going to affect the balance. I know that one year at Maintenance Day, Sleephawk took his wheel to have a tire mounted and we ended up going back to find the collar. Luckily it was laying on the floor beside the changer. They fall out pretty easily and I just take it out before taking my wheel to the shop so that I don't lose it somewhere.

Sorry to hear about the delay Gary. Don't worry about the bearings. I'm almost 100% sure that I won't need them anyway so it's not a big deal. Just take care of yourself.

Yes, you can try that. I've never seen an Avon that needed that much weight though. I still say that something is just not right. Either you got a bad tire or they don't know how to balance them.

I talked to them today and they have changed your rate. You should be good to go now. Laura told me this morning that they are indeed sold out at this time.

I did notice that the bike was missing an essential accessory. I took care of that though.

I never have mine balanced with the collar and it has not seemed to make a difference. I would not be happy with a tire that required that much weight and I would question whether or not it was balanced correctly. What kind of tire is it? Most tires have a dot that should be lined up with the valve stem. Avon is the only exception I think.

There is an easy solution to that. We'll just have Mini bring the Muffin Mans riding clothes. Then you will really be "one with the bike". I'm sure he won't mind you borrowing them.

That's great Gary. If mine are worn, we may put them in. Doubtful but it is nice to be prepared. If that happens, I will pay you for them or order you a new set.

That's bull crap. They have been honoring the rate that we were quoted. PM me the name that the reservation was made under and I'll see if I can't get this little issue taken care of. We'll find out if they want our business next year.

Yea, I've read where some folks do that but I really don't think they are needed. These are tapered roller bearings and the biggest problem is that they don't get enough grease at the factory. I think if they are greased properly, they will go at least 100,000 miles or more. That's just my opinion though...and you know what they say about opinions.

I think the 20" tassels will be fine. I'm going to need you to send me those butterfly decals though. I really need to check them out and make sure they are BIG enough.

Well Tom...I have been pretty busy this weekend but I know how pressed we will be for time to get the pink paint job done so I went ahead and started sanding on the bike today.

OK folks...at this time there are 185 folks signed up for Maintenance Day and about 35 "maybes". I can work with that but if you could all go to the calendar and narrow it down a bit that would be great. If you are signed up as a "maybe" and now know that you are coming, please remove your maybe and add yourself to attending. It costs me about $12.00 per person for the catering and I hate ordering way too much food because if I order for 200 and only 180 show up, it still costs me that other $240.00. Even worse than that is if I don't order ENOUGH food..that is always my biggest fear. I'll take a look and see what I can come up with. That might be the best plan for this year. I don't like their options as much as I liked doing them with the company that I used last year but it will probably do.

For any of you who are interested, remember, V7Goose and I...mostly V7Goose...will be holding a clinic on Friday where we will repack the steering head bearings on my '99 RSV. Folks, this is a very important maintenance item and one that the dealer would charge you big bucks for. It is time consuming but is something that you CAN do yourself. This is NOT something that we will be doing on Saturday but something that you should be there to watch, take notes, pictures, etc. to do at some point when you get home. I repeat, this is an important maintenance item. It is easy to tighten the bearings on these things but at some point, they SHOULD be repacked. Tightening them when they get a bit loose is more of a bandaid than a fix. As with many items on these bikes, Yamaha, in my opinion, doesn't put enough grease in these bearings. They wear and get loose. Tightening them makes it all better but due to the lack of grease, pretty much just speeds up the wearing of the bearings. A very good local Yamaha mechanic told my friend Bob Dakin that these bearings are often shot at around 60,000 miles. In my opinion, that is simply because they don't put enough grease in them. We will start this pretty early on Friday. I would so probably around 8:30 - 9:00. I hope that you will put it on your schedule, it will be time well spent.

I've just run out of time folks. I was working on a design and have it pretty much done but by the time I post here for orders, get the totals, get them ordered and etc., I just don't have time to get it all done. Sorry about that. The past couple of months have just been WAY to busy for me. I promise to get started on the earlier next year and we will have them again.

I honestly don't know. I've never bought a refurbished computer. If they are just returns and Walmart just sticks them back on the shelve, I would be a bit worried. They are probably OK but I would worry that somebody took it home, didn't know what they were doing and screwed up the registries or something. If they have actually been returned to the manufacture and checked out, I would be OK with it.

I ditched my desktop computer years ago. We are all notebook here and I have a wireless router so we can use the DSL anywhere around the house on out on the deck or front porch. I love it. I would look at Walmart and at Best Buy. Those are typically my "go to" places now days if I need a computer. I honestly think that if you stay with one of the name brands, you will be OK. We have three notebooks here and they are all Dell. I have been pretty content with the Dell computers but I would have no problem with Samsung, HP, Toshiba.....whatever.

The carb sync and fork oil change shouldn't be a problem. The valve adjustment is probably too big a job for Saturday. It takes several hours and is just more than we typically bite off. We did one on a Friday last year as a demonstration for those that wanted to tackle it later but won't be doing one this year I don't think.
