CB Squelch setting ?
Freebird replied to royalstar09's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When I'm riding with a group and that is all I'm interested in hearing (which is normally the case), I just put mine all the way up on 20 and it seems to work just fine. -
Well heck Condor. It is 1620 miles from my house to Cody for a 4 day event. Using your logic, I'm now wondering if I should come or not.

Hey...you CAN'T put a value on quality BS.

Folks, last week was very busy for me and I was unable to get online for any extended amount of time. I know that there was a thread deleted and then another thread explaining why that got a bit out of hand also. I'm pretty sure that this one will end up getting deleted also but I feel that I need to respond to some of the remarks made in that thread. It was voted on by the membership in the early days of this club that political discussions have no place here. This has been discussed MANY times over here but in spite of MANY warnings, they still happen from time to time. It's just human nature that something is going to get under your skin and you just can't control the urge to get it off your chest. I understand that but we ask that you PLEASE no post it here. There was also a statement made that there are a lot of political statements made under the disguise of jokes. That is true. I've seen it many times. I've seen such jokes aimed at the left and others aimed at the right. I can usually see the humor in them regardless of which side they are from and we sometimes will let them slide for a day or so in the misguided hope that they will not become political debates. They usually do though and then get deleted. It seems that it is getting harder and harder to tell any joke without offending somebody so maybe I just need to add an "auto-delete" function to the joke area. Seriously, we try to be fair to both sides and I can promise you that there is no preference given to one side or the other. It simply depends upon the responses. If they are blatantly political, they are typically deleted as soon as one of the moderators see them. Now there were also a number of comments about religion and prayer requests. The forum rules clearly state that religious debate is not allowed. That rule will always be upheld but I don't think I can remember it ever being an issue. Apparently though there is some confusion regarding what is religious debate and prayer requests. When I wrote that rule, my definition of debate was that there would be no discussion in regards to "does God exist", "Protestants vs. Catholics vs. Islam, etc." "Baptism by emersion vs. Sprinkling, etc." The Prayer Request are was created for those who DO believe in prayer to request them and to receive them from other members who believe. That is NOT debate. There have been a few people here who have stated that they are Atheists. I have seen no instances where anybody asked them why they did not believe and try to convert them. I have also seen no instances where an atheist tried to convince a believer that there is no god. The members here have been very respectful to one another and that is all that is asked. I did see a couple of posts in this last discussion from one or two people claiming they are "offended" by the prayer requests. I honestly don't understand that. If you don't believe in prayers then simply don't read the requests but why in the world would anybody be offended by it? I'm not going to be offended because you refuse to pray. I just don't get it. Folks, I very seldom draw a line in the sand here because I've always said that this is OUR forum, not MINE but I know that the prayer request area is appreciated by the vast majority of the members here and it is just something that I am not going to change. I don't want to lose a single member here. I know that you can be an atheist and still be a good person of high morals and a willingness to help your fellow members and all are welcome here regardless of their religious beliefs or lack thereof but if you are truly offended by the prayer request area, then I am sorry but it's not going away. Anybody who is offended to the point that they don't feel they can participate here then just send me a PM and I will refund your membership dues. So, like I said, I will likely have to delete this thread later on because I know it is going to turn into yet another debate but there is really nothing to debate here. We have had the discussions, the members have voted in the past, the rules have proven to work fairly well over the past ...what...8 years? This post is primarily for any new members or visitors who may have questions about these policies. Thanks, Don

That is a problem that can be very difficult to diagnose. There are a number of things that can cause it. The first thing I would check is to make sure that the carb boots are seated properly on top of the carbs. I've seen them slip off at the top, especially if the clamps are TOO tight. If that is OK, then it starts being a game of trying different things until you find the culprit. It is possible that you have a cylinder that is not firing properly and not burning all the fuel. These bikes run pretty darn good with one dead cylinder. You could have a bad coil. That is where I would start.

Does this look right?
Freebird replied to Blue Giant's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I doubt it is the wrong mount. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think that the RSTD mount will work on the RSV at all. They may simply be bent out. If so, you can bend them back in but be very careful because they do break much too easily. I ended up buying the stainless steel brackets and deflectors from Diamond R Accessories and have been very pleased with them. -
Semi-emergency: clutch springs needed for 2001 venture near Milwaukee

and THAT my friends...is what VentureRider is all about. You folks sure make us all proud. -
Looks like I need to REALLY stock up on the ice cream. I wonder how long the banks will let you finance that stuff.

Raining again here too. It seems that every single weekend it has rained and I have a LOT to do between now and Maintenance Day. There are a few nice days during the week and I always happen to be out of town and then I get home just in time for the rain.

That's funny. In 1998 I was camping at Glencoe at Sturgis. There was a guy camping next to me that was on the phone with his wife in Texas. He walked over and said "WOW...she is MAD". He just couldn't understand why she was upset. Apparently she was at work and his friend stopped by and asked him if he wanted to go to Sturgis...he said "sure" and took off. he said "I left her a note on the kitchen table so it's not like I didn't tell her".

Prayers for Gunboat
Freebird replied to Squidley's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
We will miss you at maintenance day but there will be another one next year and your health is the most important thing right now. I'm glad to hear that things are looking good and will pray that the news continues to be good. I know that time off is an issue but if you decide to fly out here to MD, you KNOW that we will be at the airport to pick you up. -
Are you you too far away to make it to my Maintenance Day? Well let's see...I've had members attend from as far as Texas, Louisiana, Florida...heck....even from as far away as Iceland and Australia so how can you POSSIBLY be too far away. It's really easy...just straddle that scoot and point it towards Ohio. Nothing to it. COWBOY UP and come on over.

I'm with Larry on the Sorento. My wife was driving an '04 and it was great. A year ago, we traded it in on the new '11 model when they first came out. When we went looking for a new car, we looked at a lot of different small to mid size SUVs but she wanted another Sorento. She has been very pleased with it and I'm perfectly happy with the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. The '04 was 4X4 but the new one is full time AWD. We drove it to Texas last summer and averaged about 28 MPG and that's not bad for a mid sized AWD SUV.

Political discussions are not welcome on this site
Freebird replied to V7Goose's topic in Watering Hole
Folks, I just got home after a LONG week of meetings in Minnesota. I want to thank V7Goose and all our moderators for the great job that they have done here. I decided to delete most of these threads as most were just arguments one way or the other about why we should or shouldn't delete threads and etc. The fact is, the REASONS have been discussed here many times and the rules set long ago. The purpose of Kent's original post was to refresh people's memories and educate any new members who might not have been aware. We have heard the opinions on both sides of these issues many times and there is no reason to go over it all again. Thanks to all of your for your understanding.- 3 replies

Folks, I am in Minnesota for our semi-annual sales meeting. This is always a busy week as we have meeting from about 8:00 in the morning till usually about 9:00 at night. I usually manage to check my messages and etc. in the morning and later in the evening but just don't have a lot of time this week. If you send me a message or a request, please understand that the reply times are a bit delayed right now.

Freebird replied to Drkngas's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have them too but I just added the wind deflectors. I didn't have to readjust my pegs at all but just haven't gotten to ride since adding them so really can't comment yet.- 16 replies

I just found this article, one of many out there, that better explains what I am saying. http://autos.yahoo.com/maintain/repairqa/fluids_heat_air_conditioning/ques019_2.html

I've never used it but have no reason to doubt what you are seeing with your temp gauge. My only question would be is it GOOD that it is running 20 degrees cooler? I know that automobiles and motorcycles are designed to run at certain temperatures. That's why they have thermostats that don't open until they get to the recommended temp. It used to be pretty common for cars to run thermostats that were calibrated at 160F or 180F but many now run in the 200F, 205F, etc. range. The engines are designed to run at their highest efficiency at the recommended temperatures so I'm just not convinced that adding anything that causes them to run at a lower temp that designed for is a good thing.

Yesterday, my wife and I were talking about the International Rally in Cody. It is really a lot sooner than you think. I hope that all of you are thinking about and making plans to attend. We are excited about it because neither of us have ever spent any time in that area and there is so much history to see there. It is going to be a GREAT time and I'm really surprised that more have not already signed up for it. Please start thinking about it and get registered ASAP. You are going to miss a great time if you aren't there.

Please sign up if you are coming to Maintenance Day
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Watering Hole
OK folks....there are still 35 maybes in on the RSVP list of the calendar. If you are still truly a maybe, that is fine but if you know for sure, please go back and change your status. Thanks -
But you didn't close the history book. Buell was shut down in October of 2009.
