  1. They are the covers right at the base of the V where the cylinders come together.
  2. Well I can't afford more chrome right now anyway. I DO have Nanci making me a custom set of saddlebag lid covers though.
  3. Well, after owning the '99 since....'99, I think I am now done with the engine chrome. Unless something else shows up. Diamond cut fins, balled milled twinky covers, carb covers and air breather covers. The twinky covers were here when I got home today. I'm happy with it.
  4. How many trees do you REALLY need. I just got home from a week on the road and there are two dump trucks and a CAT with a tree spade running all over my yard. I didn't even know it but apparently we needed more trees. So....they are putting in 15 new 12-14 ft. Norway Spruces and Canadian Hemlocks and moving 7 other trees that Eileen decided were in the wrong place. Lucky me....new stuff to mow around.
  5. I agree with running synthetic and just not worrying about it. I don't do many trips of that distance but I run Mobil 1 for motorcycles and would not be at all concerned. I did a trip a few years ago that was somewhere around 6500 miles and changed the oil and filter when I got home. Didn't concern me at all.

To be honest, there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in the idea anyway so probably best to just let it go.
  7. Not sure about the Royal Star but the RSV has had carb heaters from the first year in 1999.

I agree. It would be absolutely essential to post all the numbers ahead of the drawing.

Oh I think it's too late for this time. That is tomorrow. If there is enough interest to do this, I would suggest that we get it started and let people contribute until the next time it gets big. You all decide at what point to pull the trigger. There can be no cheating. Everybody will know that they have contributed and the total is publicized everywhere.

If there is enough interest, I'm game.
  11. I didn't throw the Poulan but I sure came close. I will mess with it later and hopefully get it running and then have it for a spare maybe. I can tell you though, on it's best day it wasn't nowhere near as good as this new Husky.
  12. I think the bike is worth the money. But I love the paint job. Now we have all been told that from a sellers standpoint, we should never expect to get back what we have spent on accessories. From a buyers standpoint though, If I were buying a bike and knew that I wanted to add some or all of those things then they would certainly be worth something to me. If somebody has spent thousands on accessories that I would eventually add anyway and I was getting them already installed at a greatly discounted price, I would be all over it. The other thing is that Yamaha has discontinued many of those items so you might have a hard time even finding some of them. Beautiful bike. If you like it, GO for it.
  13. Here, maybe I can help.
  14. Folks, as far as I'm concerned, there is no issue. Many months ago, Charlie seemed to be bored and only rarely posted and when he did, it was typically something political and etc. I sent him what I thought was a nice email asking if he was OK and reminding him to please refrain from posting political topics. It wasn't a big deal, just a reminder of something that I'm sure he needed no reminder about but was simply ignoring. Rather than reply to me and discuss any issues that he had, he simply never replied and went away. He is welcome back here at any time but the rules have not changed. I will say this though. It's not a big deal this one time because he was replying to the many folks here that consider him a friend and had wished him a happy birthday. He let his membership expire long ago though. This forum was once open to all to read and post, supporting member or not, it was you...the membership here....who voted that only supporting members should be allowed to post. Using another members account to post messages should not become a habit. If money is an issue, just send me a message and I can help. I've donated a number of memberships to folks that I knew were having financial hardships.
  15. I tried a different plug. Not a new one but one out of a weed eater that was running fine.
  16. Well I got up early this morning and decided to get right on my "honey do" list. There were a couple of trees that needed cutting down, some trimming to do, some firewood to cut. Pulled out my old Poulan Wild Thing chainsaw and began the always pain in the butt task of TRYING to get it started. Got it started and cut about half way through the first tree and it quit again. I then spend about an hour trying to get it started again. Wouldn't even start with starting fluid even though it has spark. I about wore myself out trying to get the stupid thing started and so.....off to the store. I had already done a little research and had it narrowed down to either a Stihl or a Husqvarna. I had come to the conclusion that the Stihl was a slightly better saw but there is a Husqvarna dealer just down the road from me so I decided to give one a try. I don't use a saw that much. Probably less than a cord of wood a year and some light trimming and etc. I almost spent the extra money and stepped up to the heavier duty farm and ranch model but instead, saved the cash and went with the best home use model that they had. It is a model 445 with 18" bar. Got it home and it made quick work of the cutting that i had to do today. I just hope that it lasts for a few years and remains fairly easy to start. I'm getting old and don't like being worn out before I even get one started.
  17. You know what they say....better OFF than ON.
  18. OK.....I admit that I would NOT want to cross it on a motorcycle in those weather conditions but I would LOVE to see it in person.
  19. Never even seen one of those in person. Pretty cool old bike though.
  20. I suggest that you ask your son.
  21. Geezzz..........I think you guys are being a bit hard on the guy. Now most of us here who ride the Venture do so because we LOVE the V4 engine. If a V Twin was preferred, then there are a lot of bike choices out there. On the other hand, some of us also LOVE the style and the comfort of the second gen Venture. I have yet to find another bike, V Twin or otherwise, that offers the comfort and room of my RSV. So...if somebody loves the styling and comfort of the Venture but also happens to love the low high torque and more relaxed loping feel of a V Twin, then the combination mentioned would be a beautiful thing. So the question asked was not WHY anybody would want to but ..... has anybody seen it done. I have not and have no idea if it could be done or not but I can see where it might be an attractive option for some folks. So there.....that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  22. Heard about this on the news today, an entire Ice Cream Thanksgiving Dinner. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/ready-scoop-turkey-flavored-ice-cream-video-015056353.html An ice cream store in Arizona is offering some offbeat new flavors for the holiday season, including a turkey-flavored ice cream. Scooptacular owner Nindi Wadhwa tells a local CBS affiliate that his store will also be offering other Thanksgiving-themed flavors, including cranberry, pumpkin pie, sweet potato and sweet corn. "Customers ask what is that? Is that some kind of chocolate? And we tell them, 'No, it's the real deal.'" And Wadhwa means that literally. He and his employees handcraft their own ice cream flavors. And in the case of the Thanksgiving offerings, that means dropping portions of corn and turkey into the mixing batch. "We just wanted to have some fun with it," Wadhwa told CBS. "If you don't want to cook on Thanksgiving Day, you can come here and get it all in ice cream." So, what do the customers think? "It's the only food-flavored ice cream I've ever had," customer Ashley Steele told CBS. "I love it, and my kids love it."
  23. Not in my opinion. You say that the voltage is steady so assuming that you have a decent meter, I would think that any voltage fluctuation that is enough to cause the lights to flicker would show up on your meter. Now you say you tested the voltage at idle and at higher RPMs but where did you check it? At the battery? If you haven't done so, I would suggest that you take those same readings at the light. If you are not seeing any voltage fluctuations at the light, then I would be looking at the grounds. My headlight flickers a lot....but that's because of the modulator.
  24. and Happy Thanksgiving to you all from our house to yours. I am thankful for many things and this group is right up there at the top.
  25. LOL..... Corrected.
