  1. Well, we already have an area dedicated to computer help but I'm thinking about one for general merchandise. Sort of our own Consumer Reports.
  2. I've often wondered if we should have a separate/dedicated forum for general product recommendations. I realize that we will often not agree but it might be nice to have a place to seek input for items not motorcycle related. For example, we needed a new vacuum cleaner and I had been doing a ton of research to decide which one to buy. I know that some folks swear by the Dyson but all the tests that I've seen have concluded that it is NOT very good at least in the area of air filtration. After doing a ton of research, I ended up buying one that I had not even heard of. I Miele. The primary reason that I chose it was that it has TRUE HEPA filtration. Only time will tell if I made the correct decision. Anyway, any input on whether or not I should add a dedicated forum for such things? Appliances, computers, whatever?
  3. I assume that was a typo and you meant 1999 engine. If so, you are probably taking the best route. The newer engine would certainly have more HP but if making it fit and finding parts over there to help is an issue, the '99 would be your best bet. Now this is all based on the assumption that the '99 engine is the Royal Star engine and NOT the 1999 Royal Star Venture engine. If the '99 is the RSV engine then we are back to the original problem of it not being a direct bolt in replacement.
  4. He has a first gen Royal Star.
  5. About 3 weeks ago for me. First day of early voting in Ohio. I was there.
  6. Here is a hint. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4347&title=2009-rsv-low-mileage-tons-of-extras-21&cat=4
  7. He's probably waiting for his turn to watch the Ride like a Pro video.
  8. Somebody asked what size that bike is. I have no idea but I would guess in the 600cc range.
  9. I've updated mine and am very pleased with the results. At the recommendation of Rick Butler though, I went with Sonic Springs instead of Progressives. Rick did a lot of research on this and came to the determination that Sonic Springs are a better choice for the RSV. Part of the reason was that Progressive, at the time, did not actually offer a spring at the rate that is needed for the RSV. The one that they were selling were actually designed for the much lighter Royal Star. Maybe they have added a new one since then. At any rate, I am running the Sonics and they are great. No need for any air in the front forks at all. These are the ones that I used. Now note that these are listed for the Royal Star too but the offer a couple of different weights and these are the heavier duty ones. Progressive didn't of these 1.2's at the time. http://www.sonicsprings.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27_117&products_id=344&osCsid=afbe232e0ab36a9eca596c13e139fed4
  10. I actually think it looks pretty good. I do wonder if before doing all that work, he took the time to update 2nd gear. Also, I would not be crazy about impaling myself on those air intakes.

  12. Sorry, it was just one of those weeks. Had a lot of meetings set up. Had several in Grand Rapids on Wednesday and then had to get to a couple in Ann Arbor on Thursday.
  13. I drove through there yesterday. Wasn't really worried but still scrunched down in the seat a bit.
  14. You are correct. That is how it works. Anytime you go to another post or another page it refreshes. It remains static as long as you stay on the same page.
  15. Most of you will probably notice it sooner or later but I just wanted to let you know that I have added a new banner to the upper right of our pages. You will see a banner for Ace High Leathers show up randomly with the very few others that I have running. Many of you have already dealt with Nanci at Ace High Leathers and therefore know about the fantastic works that she does. Now it is easy to get to her site by simply clicking the banner. Or, you can just go there now. http://www.acehighleathers.com
  16. I've never seen a remanufactured OEM shock for these bikes nor have I ever heard of anybody rebuilding one. If somebody has figured it out, it is news to me.
  17. As usual, I'm out of town. Just got off the phone with Eileen and found that we are without power at home. Lot of local flooding also. No estimation at this time as to when the power may be back on. They are saying that it could be an extended outage.
  18. I will also point out that you chrome ring does not need to be removed to install the visor. The original instructions that came with the ring showed to remove the front of the fairing and insert the visor between the light and the chrome ring.
  19. I'm surprised that nobody responded. I would have bet that somebody had put a centerstand on a California model before. My guess is that most just removed it. Good job. Looks like you came up with a good solution.
  20. Yes, i have them
  21. Well, I would certainly hope so. Very special dirt it was.
  22. HEY...what happened to all the souvenir Oberlin dirt that was on it when I delivered it? That was special dirt.
  23. Well, it's becoming apparent that I am going to have to respond to this. I hope it doesn't turn into a big deal because that may have been the intent of it even being mentioned. I have no problem at all with the ride reports by Twigg, Million Mile Rider or anybody else. They are not only welcomed but encouraged. I did ask that such reports be posted here. Even a normal blog page would be fine. The reports in question were being posted on a very political site that I would prefer not be linked to VentureRider in any way. That's the bottom line.
  24. I saw this morning that Sandy has been downgraded to a tropical storm. That's great news for all the folks along the east coast. Never mind. Just looked again and see that it has gained strength and is back to hurricane status again.
