He's probably waiting for his turn to watch the Ride like a Pro video.

Somebody asked what size that bike is. I have no idea but I would guess in the 600cc range.

Anybody Upgraded Their Front Brakes?
Freebird replied to bongobobny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've updated mine and am very pleased with the results. At the recommendation of Rick Butler though, I went with Sonic Springs instead of Progressives. Rick did a lot of research on this and came to the determination that Sonic Springs are a better choice for the RSV. Part of the reason was that Progressive, at the time, did not actually offer a spring at the rate that is needed for the RSV. The one that they were selling were actually designed for the much lighter Royal Star. Maybe they have added a new one since then. At any rate, I am running the Sonics and they are great. No need for any air in the front forks at all. These are the ones that I used. Now note that these are listed for the Royal Star too but the offer a couple of different weights and these are the heavier duty ones. Progressive didn't of these 1.2's at the time. http://www.sonicsprings.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27_117&products_id=344&osCsid=afbe232e0ab36a9eca596c13e139fed4 -
I actually think it looks pretty good. I do wonder if before doing all that work, he took the time to update 2nd gear. Also, I would not be crazy about impaling myself on those air intakes.

Sorry, it was just one of those weeks. Had a lot of meetings set up. Had several in Grand Rapids on Wednesday and then had to get to a couple in Ann Arbor on Thursday.

I drove through there yesterday. Wasn't really worried but still scrunched down in the seat a bit.

You are correct. That is how it works. Anytime you go to another post or another page it refreshes. It remains static as long as you stay on the same page.

Most of you will probably notice it sooner or later but I just wanted to let you know that I have added a new banner to the upper right of our pages. You will see a banner for Ace High Leathers show up randomly with the very few others that I have running. Many of you have already dealt with Nanci at Ace High Leathers and therefore know about the fantastic works that she does. Now it is easy to get to her site by simply clicking the banner. Or, you can just go there now. http://www.acehighleathers.com

I've never seen a remanufactured OEM shock for these bikes nor have I ever heard of anybody rebuilding one. If somebody has figured it out, it is news to me.

As usual, I'm out of town. Just got off the phone with Eileen and found that we are without power at home. Lot of local flooding also. No estimation at this time as to when the power may be back on. They are saying that it could be an extended outage.

I will also point out that you chrome ring does not need to be removed to install the visor. The original instructions that came with the ring showed to remove the front of the fairing and insert the visor between the light and the chrome ring.

centerstand mounting w calif. emissions
Freebird replied to DarkLeftArm's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm surprised that nobody responded. I would have bet that somebody had put a centerstand on a California model before. My guess is that most just removed it. Good job. Looks like you came up with a good solution. -
Yes, i have them

Long Distance Riding - Part Three: Time for a Ride Report
Freebird replied to twigg's topic in Watering Hole
Well, it's becoming apparent that I am going to have to respond to this. I hope it doesn't turn into a big deal because that may have been the intent of it even being mentioned. I have no problem at all with the ride reports by Twigg, Million Mile Rider or anybody else. They are not only welcomed but encouraged. I did ask that such reports be posted here. Even a normal blog page would be fine. The reports in question were being posted on a very political site that I would prefer not be linked to VentureRider in any way. That's the bottom line. -
I saw this morning that Sandy has been downgraded to a tropical storm. That's great news for all the folks along the east coast. Never mind. Just looked again and see that it has gained strength and is back to hurricane status again.

I had a '95 Shadow Ace years ago. It was a great bike. Very reliable with no real know issues. The ONLY issue any of us had was a problem with the battery. Due to the space available, the battery was not rectangular but was narrower on one end. Apparently this caused the battery to overheat and leak acid. This leaking acid would run down and caused some corrosion problems. The only thing I would recommend is that you pull the battery cover and look for corrosion on the frame in that area. If I remember correctly, and Honda and Yuasa blaming each other for the problem, they finally came up with an updated battery that resolved the issue but Honda did a quite a few frame repairs due to that issue. Now I never personally had the problem on my '95. It was a great bike and fun to ride.

Looking at a 99 RSV
Freebird replied to Ventureless's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There really weren't a lot of things to watch for on the '99 as opposed to later years. Check the bottom of the trunk to make sure it is not cracked. Yamaha released a "fix" for a problem where it wasn't well supported and some started cracking. There were some problems with the antenna's on the '99 models. They changed the design the following year. Otherwise, just the typical things for these bikes. Ride it to make sure that there is not a whine too loud for you to live with. That is not specific to the '99 though. -
hmmmm.....I don't see anything wrong with it.
