The "NO QUESTION IS STUPID " rule is in effect here...
Freebird replied to Barrycuda's topic in Watering Hole
Maybe I just missed it but I don't see where Ride On was mentioned. That seems to be the sealant that most here have used. I've never used any type of sealant in my tires but from the reports I've read here, it seems to be the product of choice and does not harm aluminum rims. -
Sorry, only supporting members can post to the classifieds. Otherwise, we got too many people just joining and spamming them.

I can tell you without a doubt that it did NOT affect the speedometer when I changed mine out. If it did, I would just recalibrate the speedohealer that I already had installed anyway to correct the factory settings.

Bent bracket, what is it?
Freebird replied to Hog Buyer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Nobody really knows what it was for. I heard that it was used to attach a display stand that Yamaha used. Yamaha never offered a center stand for the RSV. There were some on the aftermarket from Rivco, Diamond R Accessories and myself that do use that bracket for mounting. -

Ed, Under the fake fin/cylinder covers there are what look like freeze plugs. They just press in and are held in place by the covers. There have been a number of instances where they developed seeps and it sounds like what you have. They are not very expensive and easy to change out. Some people have just taped a dime over the so that they covers put more pressure on them but changing them out would be the best route to take.

The engine breather cover is held on by one screw. The twinky shaped piece that it covers has a screw on each end. You remove the outer screw and it drops through a recessed hole in the new cover and then threads back into the original hole. The carb covers have spacers behind them. On the RSV, there are what look like stamped metal strips around the choke linkage and etc. if I remember correctly and the screw and spacers screw into existing holes in those strips. It's been a while since I looked but it was something like that.

Jonas, Take a look at a picture I posted of engine and you'll see the "twinky" covers at the base between the cylinders. The official name is engine breather covers I think. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=74648

HEY....I DID spell it correctly in the text of the message. What can I say....I'm WEAK and DELIRIOUS.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that they were vacuum formed and not injection molded. Injection molding is a LOT more expensive initially than vacuum forming due to the tooling costs. We do both at my company and due to the tooling costs, most custom items are vacuum formed. About the only time we do custom injection molding is when the quantities are 1,000 or more. Then you can prorate the tooling costs across each piece and it starts to be cost effective.

They seemed to have been off the mark a bit this year. From what I've heard on the news, it has only been about 60% effective this season.

Last week I spent 4 days in Cannon Falls, MN at our semi annual sales meeting. We arrived there to the news that the flu was running rampant through our sales office. During the week that we were there, more than 25 people had called in sick. Couple that with us all being in meeting rooms and sharing vans going to dinner and etc. for 5 days and you KNOW it's going to spread. I got a flu shot several weeks ago but whatever they had is just kicking the crap out of my flu shot. I got home on Friday night and by Saturday was starting to feel the first symptoms. By Monday morning, I was pretty much staying in bed. I THINK I'm starting to feel a bit better today but am not sure because I always have moments during the day when I THINK I am feeling better. We'll see. I hope that all of you are faring better and avoiding this nasty bug. I really don't feel like I have the full blown flu. Maybe the shot is actually helping and what I feel is a major war going on inside my body between the vaccine and the flue. If that is the case, I wish that one or the other would win and get it over with.

They are hard to come by. The company that I work for does vacuum forming and could easily do those but without the patent, I wouldn't pursue it. I had one but ended up going with Ponches gauge plate and sold the one I had to Condor. At one time, I had heard that somebody on the Venturers site had bought the patents and the remains of the inventory but as said, that was years ago.

Dyna recommends that you not exceed 7,000 or 7,250 unless you install heavier valve springs. I have mine set at 7,250 and am happy with it. For those looking, here is the link to John's website. He does a great job on these conversions. http://rmsportmax.com/gateway.html

I bought mine from SportMax. He removes the gears and puts them in the RSV housing so you sill have the hole for the sensor. Some people have had a hole machined though.

Larger speakers are absolutely what this bike needs but I've not seen anybody who was successful in fitting any.

Please help with Corbin seat question to all of my VR family
Freebird replied to Barrycuda's topic in Watering Hole
I've not seen a Corbin where there was a problem with the tab not being in the correct position. The gap on mine is about the same as yours if the trunk is bolted to the back set of holes. The tab lines up as it should though. The seat pans should be correct, it is the top/upholstered part of the seat that doesn't go back quiet as far. If your seat pan is actually to short for the tab to properly insert, you have a problem that I haven't seen before. -
A lot of the new Martins are 1 3/4". Both of mine are.

Do you notice your bike losing speed before it happens? The cruise will cut out if the MPH drops a certain amount from the set point. I don't remember right off hand what that point is. If that is the case, the cruise may not be the problem. You may need to determine why the bike is losing speed on the hills more than it has in the past. Maybe you've lost a cylinder due to a bad coil or something?
