I think you are seeing that many of us WOULD indeed buy another RSV but many of us have proved it over the years. A lot of us have owned several Ventures over the years.

I see that they have a "Spyder" also. http://juluonetwork.manufacturer.globalsources.com/si/6008845344137/pdtl/Motorcycle-trike/1053380291/Motorcycle.htm I am very doubtful about this entire thing. There is more to it than meets the eye. On the other hand, I was meeting with a customer this week, a sign company, and am quoting him for new signage for a Chinese motorcycle company that is getting ready to launch a dealer network in the USA. They are looking for signage for 200 franchises to start. Not sure what size bikes they are selling but I know that the line includes motorcycles, scooters and ATVs. I know that there have been more and more Chinese bikes on the market but this is the first I've seen of a decent sized dealer network.

Thanks, I don't use IE but have it installed for checking these type things. I use Firefox and have never had it happen. Plus, Firefox spell checks as I type so ISpell is not needed. I'll check it with IE and see if I can make it happen.

I agree that it is probably the fuel pump...but it could actually be as simple as the fuel filter if you haven't changed it in a while. I had a Ford truck that did almost the same thing and it was the filter. It seems that it would run OK for a few minutes, long enough to get to the store or something and that was likely due to the gas that was already in the fuel lines and etc. past the filter. Then the filter would plug enough to prevent gas from getting through but after sitting a few minutes, I guess the gunk in the filter would soften or something and allow enough gas to get flowing that it would run again. Changed the fuel filter and never had another problem. Maybe a long shot but worth checking.

I just typed this message and then backspaced and started over and didn't lose anything. I'll continue to try and duplicate it and then see if I can find out what is causing it.

That looks exactly like the one that I posted but about $500.00 cheaper. Looks like the one I had years ago and I really liked it. Very easy to load and pulled well.
-
Well, I found the one in my picture here: http://www.naautoequipment.com/motorcycle-lifts.html#MC2000T Price is $2195.00. A bit steep considering the only time I've trailered my bike was when I moved to Ohio. Still, would be nice to have it around.
-
I looked all over the place for a trailer like I just described and never found one. Just now I did a search and found one in 2 minutes. Now to find out how much the cost and where they are sold.
-
Years ago when living in Dallas, I bought an '88 Venture and it came with a trailer that I really liked. The bed lowered to the ground like the razor but the big difference was that you could leave it coupled to your vehicle when you lowered it, loaded it and then raised it back up. I understand that they went out of production years ago and I've never seen another like it. I really screwed up when I let it go. I had sold a Honda Shadow Ace and agreed to meet the buyer in Little Rock. When I got there, we were having a hard time finding a place to load the Shadow onto his truck and he asked me what I would take for the trailer. Like the dummy that I am, I gave him a price and he bought it on the spot. I've always regretted letting it go and if I ever run across another one, I will try to buy it. Wish I had some pictures of it.

Rick Butler has a great little portable type trailer that he uses. I'll send him a link to this thread for his comments and maybe he has some pictures.

Lewis, did you intend to put $500.00 shipping on it?

Well, if it makes you feel better or is not running right, it certainly doesn't hurt to change them but I doubt they need it.
-
I agree with Marcarl but would also question if you even need to change the plugs. You said that they were changed last year. How many miles since then? I should also point out, just in case there is any confusion, he made a typo...don't go out looking for a tin walled socket, he meant to type THIN walled socket. As least I hope he did.

Horse power 1st Gen 2nd Gen
Freebird replied to usedcyclesales's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If you check the "Venture History" link at the top of the page, it shows the specs for the different models and years. -
I just uploaded one test to one of my other sites because it is a large file and if enough people look at it, it could suck too much bandwidth from this one. It is in .pdf format. The test is from 1983 for the 1983 Venture. I would recommend that you look for one '86 and newer to avoid the well documented 2nd gear issue. http://www.dnelson.com/venture/83test.pdf

Horse power 1st Gen 2nd Gen
Freebird replied to usedcyclesales's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
HP is not the same. Bother were rated at the crank so the HP you quoted for the Royal Star was also rated at the crank. According to the specs I've seen, the early Royal Star had 28mm carbs and a MUCH smaller air intake. -

I provided some info on this in the other thread. There are several differences. Carb size is not the same. The early Royal Stars had too small of an air intake, etc. See the other thread for more details. -
Gary, We are not talking about the first gen Venture. We are talking about the first gen Royal Star. As to why they made so much less HP, it was because Yamaha was trying to design a bike that looked like a cruiser. In my opinion, they succeeded in that and it's a great looking bike. In doing so though, they went with a small air intake/filter and then due to the reduced air flow also used smaller carbs. Baron's offered what they called a "Big Air Kit" that solved the restricted air issue and then with the proper re-jetting, got the HP up a good bit. To really get the HP up though, some people have built special manifolds and installed larger carbs after increasing the air intake size. Also, they did not have the same size carbs. The early Royal Stars had 28mm and the later ones have 32mm. That is why some people change them after increasing the air flow.
-
I don't understand the statement that the '97 Royal Star is faster than the '05. If that is true, either the '97 has had a good many mods done or something is terribly wrong with the '05. There are no tests that tell a different story and having ridden both, the '97 is nowhere close. Heck...we are talking probably 30+ HP difference between the two in stock configuration.

Yes, I think that Miles did it recently and Gary N. also. Maybe one or both will see this thread.
