So we are saying the two washers and wavey washer are there for the anti-dives? I just replaced my fork seals and now am bottoming out bad, like my anti-dives are not working at all. I put it back together like it was before and it was not bottoming out before. My 83 has the brake activated anti-dives. And, no, I have not put progressive springs in it yet. RandyA

Hilton Head SC is not a biker friendly place. There are restaurants there you can not get to if you are on a bike. If you have never been on the BRP, there are many campsites along the way. My favorite is Carolina Hemlocks Park between Mt Mitchell and Burnsville, NC on HW 80. This is especially if you like to swim and snorkle in cool clear water. It is about five miles off the Parkway. Even with the latch undone, there should have been some resistance in pulling it off. You may need to tighten the terminals some to slide back on the spades. That is where the contact will make or break it. RandyA

My 1st suggestion would be to check the carb sync. My 2nd is to get a throttle rocker where most of the time you are using the palm of your hand. My 3rd would be to think about how tight you are holding on to the grips. My 4th would be to think about what kind of grips you have. Mine are the foam type and work good. RandyA

I have also found the copper wires at an auto store that sold spark plug wires for farm tractors. RandyA -
Charging issue
Venturous Randy replied to rhncue's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The 1st thing I would do is pull the left side cover off and check the connection from the rectifier. I cleaned mine a few weeks ago and retightened the terminals and it sure helped the consistant readings on my voltmeter. Also, if you have not done it yet, it helps to take the connector out of the stator wires and direct soder the connections. RandyA -
If you were within a half mile of it you would have seen it....it glows in the dark!!! RandyA

Magnets to make trafic lights turn green.
Venturous Randy replied to Flyinfool's topic in General Tech Talk
Thanks Jeff, that was a well written review. It does sound like that with the repeatability that you had, that it does work. Where on your centerstand did you mount the magnet? I have some magnets that are mounted on a disc and are about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. They are reasonably strong, but not like you are talking about. I have thought about mounting one on each leg of the centerstand just in front of where the first point of contact is when you roll the bike up on it. This would also help in I could use my heel and push the stand down until it touched and the magnets would be real close to the pavement. RandyA -
I live locally to where the rally was and it was said they had 8,800 registered bikes. If you think you saw a lot on the Parkway, you should have been around here. Saturday I was on the strip from the Lynn Cove Viaduct to Little Switzerland and saw a bunch, most of them riding alone. It was reported they fell in love with this area due to all the great riding roads and I agree. RandyA

Stator question
Venturous Randy replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
A few weeks ago when I was having a problem with the side stand switch, I also unplugged the rectifier and cleaned the connections good. It appears to have helped the readings I was getting on the volt meter as I was getting some inconsistant readings also. RandyA -
Thank you Tim, I appreciate that and as said, had a great time myself. Now you need to be looking for a sidecar so you can take your wife and son both next time. RandyA

The springs that were in my 83, which I got with 23,000 miles on it, and a set that came out of an 86 parts bike, all have the springs that on one end the windings are close together and the other end farther apart. I thought this was stock. This would also be a good time to check, clean and regrease your steering head bearings. RandyA

Hairman, his son and father in law and I met up for the first time today and had a really great ride to Grandfather Mountain, the Lynn Cove Viaduct, and down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Little Switzerland and had a great lunch. We have just had a clearing cool front move thru and the views on the Parkway were rare for this time of year. There must have been 50 mile visibility, not the blue haze these mountains usually have in the summer. But it was only about 59º at Grandfather mountain, and that was down at the road, not on top of the mountain. I did hear it was 39º on Mt Mitchell one morning a day or so ago. We had a nice easy ride and this was the first good test on the needle changes I did on my carbs while taking it easy. When I filled up, I had gotten a little over 48mpg. This is absolutely the best I have ever gotten. Thank Hairman, as I had a really great time with you guys. RandyA

1st Gen brake upgrade
Venturous Randy replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just out of curosity, have you tried EBC HH pads? RandyA -
I knew the 2nd gen was just a fad. Maybe they will quit for a while and six years from now Yamaha will come out with a 3rd gen, like they did going from a 1st to a 2nd. RandyA In all honesty, Yamaha must have the worst marketing department of ANY sucessful company.

Calling RandyA
Venturous Randy replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When you do yours, let us know if this helped and how it turned out. If you want to add suggestions, please do so and then if its good, we will post this in the tech section. Thanks, RandyA -
I think I know why you are feeling tired, you are working yourself into the ground with little rest and cycle therapy. You won't help the company bottom line if you are overworked and your health begins to fail. RandyA

Great, but do you have to haul your wife on a trailer? RandyA

Need Restaurant recommendations for E. Tn and Western VA
Venturous Randy replied to Midrsv's topic in Watering Hole
Going toward Johnson City from Bristol, after passing the Bristol Motor Speedway, go about 3 to 4 miles and turn left on 19E toward Elizabethton. Go a little over a mile or two and turn the third road(I think) to the right, which will be after you passed a gas station on the left. The road will turn down into a little valley and then up a hill. The restaurant will be on the crest of the hill on the right. This place is a classic roadside dinner and is good. The Google Earth coordinates are 36º 26' 03.74"N 82º 15' 55.58" W RandyA -
Help, wifes Virago is using a lot of oil
Venturous Randy replied to raceman62race's topic in General Tech Talk
Is the Virago water cooled? If so is the coolant clean, IE., a blown head gasket? RandyA
