    Your test of putting oil in the cylinder is a good indicator of a ring problem. What you may have is stuck rings. There may be some products out there that may help and you may even could pour some Sea Foam into the spark plug hole and let it set over night. That may break the rings loose. RandyA

    This is real common on these bikes and I made a fitting that you can screw on your speedometer and get grease in between the housing and coupling the cable goes into. I got the parts from Lowes and it works great. RandyA

    I did not know there was a canadian version of Boss Hoss. The Boss Hoss company makes the 3.8 GM V-6 and a 350 and 454. You can get the 454 with 450hp. There is a 454/450 hp one that shows up at our weekly cruise-in ocassionally and it hits a wicked lick. I talked to a guy with the 350 version at a gas station and when he pulled out on the highway, he brought it up to about 30mph and nailed it for a couple of seconds and it looked like a top fuel dragster doing a burnout.     I actually have a neat engine for a motorcycle, but it is a V-8. It is one of the 215 cubic inch all aluminum GM engines used in the 60's and later used in the Triumph TR8's. It probably does not weigh a lot more than our V-4's. Of course our engines have the transmission as part of the engine. RandyA

    We had two on a motorcycle killed Wednesday when an SUV came around a curve and sideswiped another vehicle and then hit a motorcycle head on. I have not seen any more details, but I was just thru that same road Saturday. The Smokey Mountain area is a wonderful place to ride a motorcycle, but sometimes your paying attention is just not enough. RandyA

    It is actually not an inline or a V-6, but a horizonally opposed 6 that is known as the "boxer" style and the same as the Gold Wing. RandyA

    Why would it have to be big? It could be as narrow or more so as an inline four and no longer front to back than our V-4's. I am not talking about the size engine in a car as in 3800 cc's, but in the 1500 to 2000 range. RandyA

    To my knowledge, there are not any V-6 bikes and I have always wondered why not. With inline 6's, boxer type (GW) 6's and V-4's and many inline 4's, I always wondered why the V-6 was not an option. I know there is a problem with uneven pulse seperation unless the crankshaft rod journels are stepped, but that is a common thing now in V-6 car engines to increase smoothness. RandyA

    Something I hope I don't need is I carry a small fire extengisher. Small hammer Vise Grips Pocket telescoping magnet electrical tape Industrial strength Velcro strips Plexus Chap stick and sun screen Not all tools, but may be needed. RandyA

    Telling the Pepsi story brought back an old memory for me. In Thailand, they also had Coke and on one side of the bottle it had the usual logo and on the otherside, it was in Thai. I drank some of it, but it never tasted right either. I also had a bicycle there and lost about 45 pounds, and I started at a bit lower rate than I am at now. I never did get used to the smell, especially downtown. It smelled just like a sewer. We are thinking about you and be safe. Randy

    Let me add just a little more to this. When I am being passed by a semi, I will usually always flash my highbeams for a second to let them know they are clear to move over in front of me and I am not going to speed up. I also make a special point to allow them back in line if they moved over to let me or someone else merge. My question is, I will usually do the highbeam flash for a second to let them know I am passing them, if not on an interstate. My fear is the highbeam flash may indicate to them that they can move over and not see my signal light that I am passing and I am assuming they would use thier indicator if they are going to change lanes. Would you rather have someone give you that half second highbeam flash to let you know they are passing? RandyA

    If it is adjustable, and many are, just take the wheel off and see what is there. You could also take pictures and show us what is there. You could also go to a website like ours, as I am pretty sure there probably is one, and ask them. Another problem is how much weight are you carring around in it. If it is being adjusted empty, then a lot of weight is added, then it may cahnge it a lot. RandyA

    So now you want to be known as "Thigh Master". Isn't that how Susan Summers made her money. Another option would be that since you can not set her on your lap, turn her around the other way and she can keep a look out for what is behind you. Or, just keep in mind that is some guys' fantasy, what you are complaining about. RandyA

    I have found that to seal anything that is gasoline related, I use "Seals All". It works very good, is resistant to gas and seems to be readily available. RandyA

    This bike had 25 bids and topped out at $4,999.99 and did not meet reserve for those that were interested in it. That is more than I figured it would go for. RandyA

    The worst I have ever been hurt in my life was hitting a dog when I was about 15. The dog came out from behind a hedge row and I nailed him. It was in a right hand curve and he literally knocked the bike out from under me. I had a friend on the back and we both ended up at the doctors office. In about 1974, I had a neighborhood dog that would run at me and try to bite my leg. After talking to the owner to no avail, I took a dish soap bottle and put a little amonia in water and when I came down the road and he ran right up to me I squirted him in the face. From that point on, when he heard my bike, he ran the other way. I learned dogs can be trained and it may have kept him from being killed. Glad you both and the bike came out ok. RandyA

    I used to get 36/39 and after the needle/washer change I saw my first 200 miles on the odometer before a fill up and then it only took about 4.6 gallons. Doug, you should be getting better than you are. How are your diaphragms and carb sync? RandyA

    My 83 started jumping in the mid 40,000 range under WOT. Before 50,000 I undercut the gears and put 60,000 more miles on it and then put a trans in from an 86 engine and have put 15,000 miles on it. If you are mechanically inclined, you can fix it cheap and it is just a bit of work. RandyA

    Another thing to consider on this is if the timing had been just slightly different, she could have planted her grill right in the door of the kids car. That could have easily been fatal to the kid. Not that it would been her fault, but to be involved in a crash with a kid being killed could be a very tramantic thing to deal with. As bad as it was, it could have been a lot worse. RandyA

    I am glad you are enjoying your trip. I had a good ride today and went thru Asheville about sun-up this morning on the way to Vogal. Did a visit there and then when Laura determined she would be leaving out tomorrow from Birmingham, I rode up to Cherokee and had lunch and then across 441 thru Gatlinburg to home. I put about 430 miles on the bike and it ran absolutely perfect. RandyA

    I nailed a black bear years ago in a 280ZX Datsun. He also came flying across the road and I T-boned him. I was lucky I did not get under him as he would have been thru the windshield. I slid 45 feet before I hit him and about 45 feet after I hit him. You could tell the point in the road I hit him as he spewed apple butter everywhere on the road, all over the car and inside the car where I had the window down. There were several apple orchards in the area of the mountains where I hit him and evidently he had been eating on them. RandyA
