  1. Steve, you beat me to it. Wishing you and Lonna the best, Squidley RandyA
  2. What I would like to do is take a closed loop fuel injection system from a four cylinder car and adapt the whole thing to a Venture. We had someone on here talking about that a while back, but I don't remember anything coming of it. RandyA
  3. ...am going to have to get used to it. I was having a problem with my front struts bottoming out after I put in new seals. One reason was it had lost all air. In the 13 years I have had this bike, the shocks have always held good air and I usually kept about 10psi in the front. So, since I got a brand new, still in the box, set off ebay for about $63, I thought I would just put them in. I removed the grills around the steering and in no time I had them apart. I filled the fluid level to 5.5 inches with the struts compressed as directed. After extending the struts, I then slid the spring in and it was about 3/4 inch below the top of the strut, so that gave me no preload. I expected to get some lift on the front of the bike, but it gave me a lot. I went from being almost flat footed to being up on my tip toes on flat ground. I am also having to get used to the ride being on the edge of being harsh. Hitting some off ramps that were a little bumpy before are now down right rough. I took a ride at lunch after lowering my rear shock pressure from about 60psi to about 25psi and that definately helped on the footing. I will probably need to add some air back with a passenger. I have even thought about looking at the possibility of sliding my front tubes up some in the tripple tree. The problem with that is if I slid them up a half inch, that would only make about a quarter inch difference on my footing. RandyA
  4. Yeah, but he has a thing for "ugly". RandyA
  5. Hey Dan, say your neighborhood problem has gotten a lot better since the problem house burned down? As my mom used to say, "Miracles never cease to happen". RandyA
  6. After cleaning and tightening the connection from the rectifier the other day, my volt readings are much improved. RandyA
  7. First of all, let us start with cover names. On the left side as you are sitting on the bike, the big cover in front is the stator cover, which has two gears that will fall out and the shifter linkage goes thru the bottom of it. The smaller cover behind it is the middle gear cover. That is the one you can take loose to be able to see everything better under there and to service your clutch slave cylinder. That is also the one with the bottom bolt having the copper washer to drain the oil in the gear area. On the right side of the bike, the smaller cover toward the front it for the water pump. The bigger cover behind it is the clutch cover. With the bike on the side stand, you can service the clutch assembly without having to drain your oil. Just make sure when you check your oil level in the sight glass, you are on the center stand. Now, to see the gear linkage, remove the middle gear cover and you will be able to see the linkage better and how it operates. Just make sure when you are trying to change gears that you rock the rear wheel to allow the gears to engage if necessary. One other note, if you look on the ends of the shifter shafts, you will see a small arrow. This arrow should point at the gap in the linkage as it slides over the splines of the shaft. With your descriptions, I am not really sure what you have straightened or bent. Keep us posted. RandyA
  8. Actually, I think a lot of us would really appreciate a better working knowledge of the CMS and reed switches and other stuff. Like me, I can usually find poor soldier joints and fix them, but to do anything to fool the system to be able to bypass something is not in my routine. RandyA
  9. I notice as I am getting older, I am getting worse about keeping up with stuff. RandyA
  10. At work, when I hit it, it tells me I can not go on Facebook. Our IT must have it flagged. RandyA
  11. With shipping cost at $8 to $9, I will get it locally. Thanks RandyA
  12. Tell me Rooster, what is the difference between sitting in a recliner watching tv and riding your bike? Is it just the wind? It ain't gonna turn over on ya with that sidecar. RandyA
  13. Yep, it has gone up. The last can I got at Kenny's was about $13 for a big can. Did you get a can? RandyA
  14. That may be another thing I showed Steve how to do......put the needle on the wrong side of the peg. RandyA
  15. Tim, I use Plexus and I get it at Kenny Britts between Boones Creek and Gray. I am planning on taking another ride Saturday and if you want me to get you some, I could meet up with you somewhere. RandyA
  16. That is a thought, but many of us are either running two 35w bulbs or two 55w bulbs and I think that may be worse on the computer. RandyA
  17. Wow, this is a heartbreak. James and family will be in our thoughts and prayers in hoping for a complete recovery. RandyA
  18. Hey Craig, I will have to remember to tell Laura that one the next time she is sitting with a trash can in front of her. RandyA
  19. I was thru there many years ago in a car. I would not want to take to my bike on the road I was on. We ended up down in a valley and watched elk graze. At that time, the gravel area was pretty rough. RandyA
  20. I just wish one of you electronic gurus would come up with a good relay system for these 1st gen headlights that would provide full voltage to the lights and not cause problems with the warning light. There has got to be a better way than what we have now. If you look at the path the circuit has to take to get to the headlight, it is a wonder it even works as well as it does. RandyA
  21. The biggest problem I have had with the throttle cables is when they slip out of the hole in the junction box. Then the cable housing is up on a step and will make it seem about a half inch too short. That is probably why you have had a problem with this. RandyA
  22. I am one of those people that Like looking thru my windshield. When working on my bike the other day, before I put it all back together, I took it around the block without the windshield and at 40mph, it was terrible. When I got my bike 13 years ago, it was very difficult to ride at night due to the scratches. After polishing it and routinely using Plexus, it is just about good as new. I like the protection of the windsheld, especially for things other than wind. RandyA
  23. If you have an infestation of honey bees, first try to locate a local bee keeper and see if he can get them out. I know honey bees are agrivating, but they are a great contributor to our food manufacturing process through the pollenation process. There have been some real concerns expressed about how many honey bees are dieing off. OK, that's my soapbox for the day. RandyA
  24. When I have been on the Dragon, my biggest fear is getting clipped by a crotch rocket that lost it or could not keep it in their lane. For those of us from this area, the Dragon is not anything special, other than the comradiery of the other bikers. We have a lot of good roads that are even more curvy and the speed limit is 55, not 30. But they don't have the following the Dragon has and I am glad. From the news report, it sounds like there have been three deaths so far this year on the Dragon, but it did not say they were all motorcyclist. This is a sad story and with her being from Ontario, this was probably one of her like's dreams as a motorcylist, riding the Dragon. RandyA
  25. I wonder if it could be the Reserve Light Unit? RandyA
