Prayers for Gunboat
Marcarl replied to Squidley's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Anytime Bro,,, if he's SPECIAL for you, he's Special for me. So if you ask, and I ask, then we will be heard. Consider it done. Carl -
Although it is conceivably possible to hit 'neutral' between gears you would not have the indicators come on if that were the case. The only way the indicators can come on is if the tranny is actually in the real neutral. So my guess would be is that when you shift somehow you manage to bounce the gears in the transmission so that it ends up in neutral. I suppose it can happen when things wear and get somewhat easier to move. Try making a positive shift, making sure that the shifter is all the way up and let the clutch go before, or as you release the shifter.

Turns out,,, that maybe,,, just maybe the new split washer was a wee bit thicker than the old split washer, which then would make the second gear set run a little close, even on the original gear set, so in order to get rid of the problem I removed the engaging dogs on the smaller gear which seemed to be causing the problem. Now all is quiet and Wayne is very happy,,,,, at this point,,, I haven't told him this yet and he wasn't able to see it because I had the motor back together before he got here. Now 2nd is quiet, Wayne is happy and the 1st gen has a coaster gear so so that 2nd gens and others can have a legal chance to keep up,,,,,,,,, anybody looking to do this mod???? don't come to me, for I'm down the highway and over the hill, for I think someone may be looking to make big kill. Actually I only removed about 30 mil to get the gears to clear and now all works just fine. Thanks all for your input and concern. Like the good book says: work and pray. And oh the picture???? Yah, well that's another story!! -
I would think that you're pushing Jeff, even with re-enforcing. Those lights will catch a fair bit of wind and have enough weight to jiggle around some through vibration and pot holes. I would like to see them mounted to something steel if it was up to me to decide.

Turns out,, now that we have it all apart, that second gear doesn't clear completely in neutral,, it seems to be fine when in gear, the dogs clear, but in neutral it doesn't quite clear. So now what, do we bend the forks to accommodate, file a wee bit off the dogs so that they clear, or stick it back together and take out the hearing aids? We presently have Dingy's gear set and forks installed. Why would this happen? What would have changed? Should we change back to the original gear set? We mic'd them both and they seem to be the same,,, pretty hard to tell on casting, but they are close. -

I took the clutch out to see if anything un-towards was happening in that area. So that gives me some sense of where all this comes from. The sound comes from inside the tranny and it could be either the forks or gears touching..... guess it's coming out,,, wish us well. -

We used the gears sent by Dingy, but did not change the forks seeing as we could see nothing wrong with the ones that were in there to start with. And everything seemed to work fine on the bench before we put the bolts back in. It only makes the noise (sounds like a bolt hitting something in rotation) in neutral, and only when the clutch engages, whether the lever is in or out. So we can put it in gear and the noise goes away, slip it into neutral and all is well, wait for the slight friction to start turning the tranny and it returns. -
http://www.roadbikemag.com/home/breaking-news-polaris-acquires-indian/ Should be an interesting match-up.

Some of your issue may not be in the cord at all,,,, it may lie in the connections between the controls and the amplifier itself. You can see these when you lift the control panel out of the bike. They need to be brought a little closer together, I did 3 bikes now, just by adding washers under the connectors and solved their problems.
