  1. Enjoy - and have a safe journey.
  2. I have the RSTD - thought I would enjoy pulling the windshield off, didn't want/need a CB/Radio, didn't need no trunk - the TD comes with bags. After couple of months, that windshield never came off, bought a Harley trunk because Yamaha doesn't offer the aftermarket accessory capability of adding the trunk (economically), added the CB / XM Radio (don't know how I ever drove without one). My point is my riding style changed drastically from 10 years ago. So, if I was to start this venture again, I would have just bought the Venture and saved some dollars with those add on accessories. As others have said, it all depends on your riding style. Hanging out with this incredible group of people, you will have some long, fun rides possibly to enjoy. . Either way, you will be getting an incredible machine.
  3. I read somewhere on here (I think) about using different plugs if you use an aftermarket CB / XM radio unit installed as it could cut down on the static in the ears. I have the J & M CB-2003 and get a lot of static - to the point of not wanting to use the unit / radio. Is this true - if so - what plugs would you all recommend? Thanks.
  4. I think Squid took his off - and left them off - you might want to ask him.
  5. For those coming from the East Bay / San Francisco Bay Area, I will be at the Denny's parking lot in Cordelia at 10:30AM - kickstands up at 11AM. All bikes and friends are welcome - and if it rains, no problem with the cages - we will be in one as well (big green Toyota Sequoia with a Venture Rider decal on the back window). This will be a gas (no pun intended) - but we will have to beat Condor to the rib house before he eats all the ribs :rotf:
  6. I have them - Tom is right on all accounts. I happen to like their sound, but will admit on the trip to Ft. Collins this year - especially playing in the mountains in the lower gears, they do and can get loud - especially for a passenger.
  7. Just curious, who had the 1st gen with the gorgeous Eagle etching on their windshield of their 1st gen at Ft. Collins this year? I am looking to have something similar done on mine as my painter - who is also doing windshied etching now - is out in my area this week - but didn't want to copy what I saw in Ft. Collins. My picture only turned out so so, and was hoping to get a better picture to show Sue and give her an idea of what I want.
  8. Hey, Jerry - would love to have you up. Let me work on that and I'll shoot you a PM tomorrow or as soon as possible.
  9. That's wild and different - good for him - I like it.
  10. Interesting topinc - we don't have kids, but definitely maturity and safety courses would be the first thing I would mandate before even looking at bikes for my kids. And then the Virago / Shadow would be the first bike, not a rocket. I think Arthur might be lucky that his kid's don't like the rockets. Just yesterday, I was listening to the news station, and the Director of the Calif. Highway Patrol was on talking about the increase in motorcycle accidents - for various reasons - more riders, not being seen, etc. One of his comments included himself - and that was the number of adults coming back to riding after many years off a motorcycle - and not being careful. I believe that more public service announcements should be aired - getting drivers to be more aware in general (i.e. off cell phones), safety and observance of motorcycles, etc. I also believe that many people - young or old - think their vehicles (whatever type) can handle like those shown on mfg. ads on TV - stopping / cornering on a dime regardless of speed, etc. I tend to think that those ads makes some people believe that they in fact are as good as the professionals driving those cars in those ads. Just my 2 cents.
  11. Yeah, what are you up to now - we need pics, you know the rules here.
  12. Gerald, I would have to agree with Redneck (and others). That is honorable on your part caring for the kid - but hey, you want it, pay for it and step up to the plate. Sounds initially to me like he is playing games and trying to scrape something together. Don't take any wooden nickels.
  13. Gee, Dan - that is good news that he is gone. Glad to hear the fire didn't cause any potential damage to your place - but finally, good riddance.
  14. Hey, Jack - thanks for posting this up and hope all new and old VR riders in the area can come on by for some GREAT food, good times and lying sessions, some colorful look into the past at the gas station, and some history at the AG center. Speaking with buddies in the STAR club who have gone several times to Ludy's, they say the ribs are to die for - so in typical VR fashion, let's have a good old time. . Since this is close enough for us (only an hour for most of us in the bay area) and kind of an "indoor" event, we'll be there rain or shine. AND if enough of us show up, maybe all of us could throw around some ideas for rides/meeting places for next year (or at least the first half). Come on out everyone for a great time on the 21st.
  15. COOL - can't wait to see the list - thanks, Gene.
  16. The mfg should have come out with one - long ago. I ended up buying the Venture Rack etc to get my trunk to mount. to whatever your design might be.
  17. I had my seat altered by Rick Mayer - and where it is 100% better than stock, I am still looking to better customize it for me. I have DiamondR's back rest - highly recommend a back rest - and foot pegs which makes my riding a lot more comfortable.

    Sad News

Our hearts and prayers extend to he and his family at this time.
  19. Wow, Steve - that sounds like a great ride. And you will definitely decide if you like the bike or not LOL.
  20. Couple of years ago, the wife and I took the Regal Princess out of San Francisco to Alaska - it was great. We actually were VERY fortunate once we got up to Alaska - we hit the best weather they had had in 2 months. In fact, the two trips previous that ship had made, it was SO rough, people got extremely sick and one man even had a heart attack and had to be flown off. Having said all that, our trip into the Inside Passage was incredible. We got closer than they had been able to for 4 -5 months. Saw a ton of whales - we went in the beginning of August. We didn't do the CruiseTour - but I wish we would have had the time to do it. I have cruised several times to the Caribbean - and I love cruising. I strongly recommend you get the balcony for the Alaska trip - well worth the money. I possibly would not recommend the Regal Princess only in the fact that it is an "older" ship - many of the new ones have many more on board ship activities to do. But, if you and your wife like to be pampered, this is the way to go.
  21. Steve, you're gonna enjoy that bike - I know I've enjoyed mine. Have fun.
  22. WOWZA - that is a great looking scoot - good luck - shouldn't have a problem selling that bike.
