I ride to work almost every day. 18 when I left the house this morning at 0600 and was 29 when I headed back home at 2000. My friend, co workers, and even my wife think I have lost my mind.

As Maineac posted, they do have a website but I do not know if they have the long johns on sale for that price on the site?? Check it out and if not let me know, I can pick up what ever you need and ship it to you.

I switched to the 130 earlier this year and will not go back to the stock size. It made such a dramatic difference that I can complete full lock turns and scrape floorboards at 5 mph. I am only 5'8" and the leveling links were not an option. I have noticed that the bike is a little looser in the wind at high speeds, but once you get used to it there is no problem.

Gander Mountain here in Richmond has one of those fleece 4 way balaclava type hoods on sale for $8 (regularly $20). They also have fleece long johns, tops and bottoms, for $10 a piece. 5 below - here in Richmond has some of those small collapsible stools that fit in our saddlebags for $5. Nice little lightweight stool for cheap. Don't know if these deals are available in your area, but if they are you might be able to catch a bargain.

Depending on you your time table, I wouldn't suggest more than 200 miles a day if you want to stop and enjoy the sites. Realistically you could only go 50 miles a day and still not get it all in, but who has that kind of time???? Let me know when you settle on dates, I would love to come meet you guys and ride part or all of the trip if possible. I have ridden many portions of both roads, but never the whole thing at once and that is on my short list of things to do. BTW, as mentioned before Chimney Rock and Lake Lure is a great side trip while in the Ashville area.

Great pics as always Bobbie. What a great time we had, how I wish I could make the M&E on Jan 3rd. Hopefully the TN M&E works out for Feb or Mar and we can ride down and who them how its done.

Thinking about having my seat shaved, need advice
nkbjones replied to Who Dey's topic in Watering Hole
I had mine shaved by a local upholstery shop. The guy charged me about $40 US and it made world of difference. He only shaved from the side near the front of the seat. I am 5'8" and was seriously considering the barons lowering kit, but with the seat shaving and getting used to the bike I found that I did not need to lower it. I also moved to the smaller avon tire and now I have the perfect bike. -
I have a Sansa clip, 4gig and it works well on the bike. I like this one because even with gloves on it is easy to change songs. As mentioned before you will need the cord with male plugs on both ends to hook it into the cassette player (easliy available at radio shack for a couple of bucks). Samsung, sandisk, and Ipod make good players, stay away from the 'cheaper' brands and you will find a good one. Be careful about relying on the mp3 function of a gps unit. When I got my GPS I got one that had an mp3 player, but quickly found out that I can use it as a gps OR a mp3 player. Not a big deal really because I already had a mp3 player and wasn't relying on the gps for music, but it sure would have been nice to consolidate.

Glad to hear it, we were all starting to get worried. On a positive note, Virginia State Police reported NO motorcycle accidents today (found this out when checking on Steve). BTW, thanks to Jeff for all the follow up. Yet another wonderful thing about this family.

Glad to hear your OK Jeff. Never thought about that benefit of having a side car.

I was bored today and my mind was wandering and somehow I wandered onto this question. OK so I know that the 2nd gens have heated carbs, but how do they work? I didn't see anything in the owners manual. I am not having any problems, just curiosity.:puzzled:

? about brake pads..........
nkbjones replied to nkbjones's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well it took me a day longer to get to the brakes than I thought, but the new rear pads are in. I pulled the front calipers and guess what:think:................there is still at least 1/2 of the pads left. Guess I won't be changing them yet afterall. I am not sure what I was looking at:confused24: when I thought the outer pads were gone, but this was a pleasant surprise. -

nkbjones replied to nkbjones's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I got my new pads today and will be installing ALL of them tomorrow. I have to say that http://www.motorcycleproshop.com/ is the place to order brake pads. I ordered them Monday night and they arrived today. I got a full set of front and rear for $90 (including shipping), cheapest place I've found yet. I have also ordered a tire form them in the past and had a very good experience. Quick service and shipping and some of teh best prices around. -

Point taken Squid..............BTW are the factory pads HH? If they are not then I guess it's a no brainer to replace all at the same time. -

nkbjones replied to nkbjones's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The install for the brake pads is pretty easy, even for me Removing the saddlebags is the only way to go for the rear brakes. It actually takes me longer to empty the bags than it does to replace the pads. I have been able to get close 17k out of my rear pads and I figure that is pretty good from what I have seen around here considering I use my back brake aaaaaaaaaaaalot. -

@ 30k miles I am getting ready to be on my 2nd set of rear pads. This will be my 1st change for the front. -
I have ordered new brake pads to install this weekend on my 07 RSV (30k miles). I noticed that on the front brakes, the inside pads appear almost new while the outside pads are very close to the wear indicator. I know that this seems to be normal on the rear brakes but............. 1. Is this normal on the front brakes? and 2. Can I reuse the 2 good pads (1 from either side) on 1 caliper and just install new pads on the other side? I have ordered a full set of pads for front and rear so having parts is not an issue, but if I can save a set for next time that would be good too.

My clutch had started to slip in several gears while cold and was clunking into 1st gear. All I can say is its great now, so far I am pleased with the PCW kit.

Glad you make it home OK, thanks again for the help. This is what VR is all about...................members/friends helping others and eating good food. Now, I can't wait to test her out for real on the way to work tomorrow:225:

Why yes, yes there was....................I feed him while he was here and sent home leftovers from a party. Smoked chicken, brisket, german potatoe salad, and red cabbage. You could say it was our own mini M&E.
