VR Assistance

  1. I've had a problem with my 86 VR where the signal lights were turning off way too quickly (sometimes after two or three blinks). One of my buddies helped me look at it a few weeks ago and we found out it was losing ground and cutting off before it was supposed to. After pricing replacement switches for a few weeks I decided to try something today. I ran a wire from the ground side of the fuse box through the cable channel in the left handle bar and into the switch. There is a metal plate inside the switch just behind the control. I played around with my wire to find where the plate needed the ground and soldered the wire in place. I have to manually turn my signal light off now after I make a turn, but I feel a whole lot safer now that I don't have to worry about it turning off at the wrong time. Not a hard fix if I could do it. Thought someone else may be having the same problem.
  2. 2 weeks and one day after my horse riding (or falling off) accident in which I broke a rib, I took the bike an a 35 mile round trip ride to Meijer. It felt great to be on it. No problems with the exception of backing the bike up. Still not 100%, but getting better.
  3. Ok folks: You guys (n gals) are amazing and have helped me so much. Here we go again. Sometimes when downshifting it skips second and goes right to neutral from 3rd. Not all the time and seems to work more often than not but I believe it is getting worse. I know someone here will be able to tell me what the problem is. I don't have 2nd popping out on acceleration. Upshifting is smooth and never misses a beat. A few weeks ago I had to take the clutch cover off and have a look at the thingy with the pins. A couple of them were loose so I fixed that and all was good. Any ideas? HELP?? Wayne
  4. Went for my first ride today since hip replacement:cool10: The wife is out of town for a few days no car so had to go to town:whistling: It was great feeling the wind in the face after 10 weeks. Had absolutely no probs or pain:banana: Should be good to go for St Judes Run John
  5. Do we have to make a reservation at the Hub if we are camping in a tent?
  6. Asheville meet in 2 weeks. I guess I better clean up a scoot.
  7. Had my follow-up appointment this morning with the surgeon that worked on my knee, and found out I get to spend five more "lovely" weeks in a full-leg brace and no weight bearing. I've only survived one so far... I don't know how I'm going to do it. To anyone else out there not able to ride, I feel your pain.
  8. I own a 2006 RSV(Black Cherry) and have a electrical drain problem that has plaqued me for several months now. The bike has been to the local dealership four times over the past few monthes for this issue but nothing has been found???? The 1st time in the shop they said it was just a bad battery (2 yrs.old) and charged me over $100 for new battery and labor. Less than two weeks later it was totally dead again. Back to the shop and they kept it almost 2 weeks with a volt/ohm meter hooked up to it. Nothing found, they said it might have been a bad battery and gave me another one at no charge. A few weeks later the same scenario.................... Went to ride and nothing, no juice???? Back to the shop for another week and nothing was found to be at fault. They charged the battery and left it hooked up for a week with no drain????? I spent last week in the mountains in and around Tellico Plains, Tn (The Snake, The Devil's Triangle, The Dragon and Wayah Road) I took my Suzuki Boulevard C90 on this trip as it it lighter and really handles the twisties much better. Anyway, upon returning home I went to clean the RSV and turn the key and................................... Nothing! My volt meter read 3.5 volts. I monitor this forum daily and believe that the knowledge and expertise is truly right here to resolve this puzzle. I plan a 6000 trip to Montana in July and do not want to take the RSV unless this problem can be fixed. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation and shed some light on the fix????? Help ! Bugsplat

  12. Well I had an awe SH *&* in the garage this morning. Had my bike in the chock I bought from Harbor Frieght, been using it for over and year now no problem. Until this morning when a crash woke me up. Over she went. The Clearview sheild is toast and the grip on the clutch side as well. Could have been worse I guess. Not sure why she went over. Anyway, does anyone have a stock sheild they could let me borrow? I will pay for shipping. I ordered a replacement from Clearview this morning and it's going to be 2 to 4 weeks before I get it. Had a 3 day weekend ride schedule this comming weekend. Guess that is in jepardy unless I can get a sheild by Thursday. If anyone has a stock sheild lying around I could use for a few weeks I would really appreciate it.
  13. Folks, I get a number of emails from people who have forgotten their passwords, did not receive the confirmation email when they registered, have questions about how to post, etc. I still plan to answer those questions for the most part but over the next few weeks there will be times when I am simply not available to do so. At the bottom of the main forum page, in the blue bar, there is a link that says "Forum Leaders". If you click on that link you will get a list of the moderators here any of which should be able to help you. If one of them does not know the answer to your question, he will get with the others and try to come up with an answer...if that doesn't work...they will make something up. So over the next few weeks, if you contact me and do not get an answer in a reasonable amount of time, you might try contacting one of them. I am placing the link here also. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showgroups.php
  14. I took Blue-Belle in last Thursday for her annual physical. I'm having the carbs sonic cleaned and rebuilt as well as the brake worked on. About the only mechanic that will still work on anything that is over 3 or 4 years old. Should be getting her back in a couple of weeks or so.

  17. Well today wasnt the best day I have ever had at work.........I stepped on a rubber mat next to my CNC machine at work and as I did it slipped out from under me sending me to the floor landing on my arse.............didnt hurt when it happend, but it is starting to hurt up and down my back now..............This was preceded by me missing 2 days, Wed, & Thurs, due to my scitica bothering me so bad I could hardly walk, sit or move without being in complete agony. Dr. prescribed painkiller for me and that did the trick, today when I went to work I was painfree for the first time in two weeks and then this happens, I filled out an accicent report as soon as it happened and notified both supervisors that it happened, I have a feeling that when I go back to work Mon, the facility manager is going to make me go to the Dr, and get a release to work before he will let me back in the shop.........he has done that to me once already when I had carpal tunnel problem. Just took another pain pill to see if I can get rid of it, And today was the first day I rode my bike to work in 10 days............man life can sure be a drag.............
  18. Ole

    It's here!!!

I finally received my new bike today. December 15th I purchased a new Silver 2008 RSV S on EBAY. It took the dealer three weeks to assemble the bike and have it ready for delivery. Another week went by before the trucking company picked the bike up for delivery. Sit in a warehouse in Chicago for another two weeks and finally it heads to Texas last weekend. Dark thirty this morning the trucker is ringing my doorbell with the bike at her new home. WOOHOO!! It was a long wait but well worth it. Took it for a short spin today before the cold front blew in. Can't wait to get her on the open road. Snapped a couple of quick pics of her. Ken
  19. just put my secound I basket in and it still makes the same noise. that sucker still screams at about 24-32 hundred rpms. it is even lowder than the g basket i took out . I wish i had a H basket to put in or a p-q-r-m-or somthing to stop the noise lol. and on top of that my shock just started leaking, and my guy at the dealer said he had to have my bike long enough to take picture of shock -send it in before they would send another to us. he said this takes about 2 weeks??? O- O-what will i do for 2 weeks??
  20. Question: Whats the agreed upon best heated grip option for a 1st Gen. ??? Something I been meaning to do, seems like a good project for the next couple of weeks. What works best?
  21. I put the bike in storage about 6 weeks ago. I went to the storage this weekend to check the battery tender and start her up... I had to crank it a lot to get her to start and then I had to let her warm up a lot before she would respond to the throttle without sputtering and dying. Normally I just touch the start and she fires up and roars to life without a problem. any idea what is causing this? I dont want her to need major work in the spring. I did add stabil to the gas prior to storage and rode about 20 miles to get the fresh gas+stabil into the carbs.
  22. we sat and sat and sat.......lol he was the very last case this morning..we were the very last people sitting in the courtroom... he saw us when he came in again but never ever looked our way again....he definately avoided us.....his lawyer didnt show today..supposedly had a medical emergency and never made it there. Prosecutors office said they had some issues with the case they want to get taken care of so they wanted next hearing in two weeks....so guess where we be in 2 weeks again... Ive got a call into our advocate at the prosecutors office to find out exactly what the issues are they want to take care of.....all i know of at this time would be the motion for bond reduction he has in........patience isnt one of my better traits.....
  23. Is there a printable view for the VR assisstance list. I would like to bring a paper copy along when I go I my road trip in two weeks. Cody
  24. I made a decision to purchase a standby generator, a 20 KW air cooled model. Operates on natural gas, came with a 200 amp Load shedding automatic transfer switch. I'm in the process of doing the install over the next 2-3 weeks. I wanted to know if anyone here might use this brand or have any knowledge of these generators. Thanks J.B.
  25. Why does it always seem when you try to get ready for a road trip your motorcycles mechanics become a problem. I bought a new "to me" Venture a few months back. My brother, son and myself are getting ready for a trip through Arkansas and I decided to bring the Venture in for a good check out a few weeks ago. All looked fine until the mechanic saw large cracks (not all the way through) on the Intake Manifold Boots. He has dicked around for almost 3 weeks and we are scheduled to leave Saturday. Of course the parts came in yesterday and were wrong We are trying to overnight the new ones in and will have to see what happens. I got on the phone to call around Houston and see if the parts are available locally (I know it's a long shot) and couldn't find any. But I did find out the price was about $167.16 for the 4 carbs. He had quoted me $436.00 for the parts that he ordered. They were the wrong ones but I am interested to see what he says on these one. Of course there could be more parts that I am not aware of? If he says $436 and I have priced all the parts, then we will part ways in a not so nice manner. I don't want to confront him and find out that I omitted a few parts that justify the cost. Any input will be helpful. P.S. Nice site and I apoligize for jumping in with a post like this.
