  1. I would like a set of new cables. Are any available here?
  2. About 10 days ago I posted about tingling fingers and my plan to upgrade to Flanders bars and Kuryakyn ISO grips. Well, I've since completed that upgrade with the help of Usnmustang's wonderful pictoral write-up/how to. (Very informative and easy to follow - THANK YOU usnmustang, where ever you are .) Anyway, I've posted some pics for everyone to see the before and after. I think it looks really nice. I didn't put the stock weights back on because I'm not too good at fabrication but I did order the Kuryaky Bullet end weights to complete the look and get it back to real close. I didn't notice any additional vibration without the weight on (none at all as a matter of fact - VERY smooth). Like I said though, I'll put the new ends on if for no other reason than for a place to rest my hand when the cruise is on. You'll see in the pictures I still need to do something with the wiring. I'll probably get some black zip-ties which I think I can make look good. (I'm open to suggestions here so if anyone has a better idea, I'm all ears...) Here are the two questions I have after the install: 1. My new throttle grip doesn't want to snap back like it should. I've adjusted the cables every way I can think of (tighten, loosen and everywhere in between) and the throttle seems to move smoothly enough but I have to manually move it back from about 1/8 throttle. If I open it up to about 1/4 throttle or above it goes back to about 1/8. I hope that makes sense... What's everyones experience with this? Can I lube something to make it better and if so, what type of lube should I use? Other thoughts? 2. My other problem is the clutch. Keep in mind all I did was remove the housing from the stock bar, let it dangle and then put it back on. I didn't mess with it other than that. Now, the clutch seems a) just a little harder to pull and b) when I let it out it catches sooner. I used to get about 1 inch from the bar with the clutch lever before it caught but now it's more like 3/8 - 1/2 inch. Is there any way to adjust that? I guess I can't think of any other way to explain those two problems so I'm looking for anyone that may have suggestions. Hopefully it all makes sense. I'm going on a long ride next weekend and want to make sure it's tip-top by then. Please give me your thoughts. Hope everyone like the pics. Les
  3. Anybody use these on their 1st gens? How do/did you like them? Pros? cons? I'm gonna be needing some new pads soon and was just thinking about all the different kinds that are available and thought maybe these would be a nice upgrade from the OEM/organics or even maybe the semi metallic pads. Sooner or later I plan on doing the SS brake line upgrade, but until then I figured better pads would do. I really have no problem with the brake system as it is now, but any improvement would be a good thing. Bill
  4. Just curious for those that have installed an AMPLIFIER on their RSV's...are you happy with it? Was the cost of that upgrade WORTH the enhanced sound quality, or was the sound quality only slightly improved? Did you install in the trunk or under the fairing? Have you had ANY issues with the electrical system since installing this upgrade? I know there are several threads about what kinds, and how to mount, but hopefully this is a "different" thread. Thanks for all your replies. Wally
  5. hey all anyone know of a headlight upgrade that i just plug in and go? i came across a old post here about someone trying to get a set of hella lamps to plug in to existing light but cant find it again and dont know if it worked out into a plug an play kit or not. the original headlight on my 83 venture is crap and looking for something to cange it without change or adding a bunch of wireing and electronics. thanks for any help
  6. It is time to replace my rear tire. AS I have been looking around and planning to purchase a Metzler, I noticed there is a "stage 1" upgrade for RSV that changes the size of the tire to a Metzler 180/70hr-15. It states this goes on the same rim..... Is this true? Has anyone actually done this?? If you have done this does it make any difference good or bad? Any input would be greatly appreciated here as the tire needs to be replaced very soon. Thanks JM
  7. I recently finished doing an upgrade on my handle bars, using the Flanders bars and cables from Buckeye Performace. Using a lot of info form here, everything turned out great. So I am on to my next project: Looking to improve the sound from my 2008 RSV. I have replaced the stock exhaust with Harley Roadking's. but I am interested in trying out some Vance & Hines slip on's. Does anybody here, have that exhaust on thier bike ? I have heard and seen a small clip on youtube, but not a lot of information there. Steve
  8. My RSTC feels good but for some reason my buddys 99 venture seems to pull better. I did do the skydoc clutch upgrade but my bike doesnt slip so that shouldnt be athe difference. Is there a HP difference among those years?
  9. Are there instructions that deal with the skydoc upgrade only. I want to do it once and not have do it again cause I replaced the wrong disc.

  11. I have an '03 Olds Silhouette and tried to sign up for the contest. Well I learned that I have an analog signal and you need a digital signal to sign up. I have done some research and onstar says it can't be done DIY. From some other research this is basically b.s. There are some DIYers that have done the upgrade themselves. It seems the only reason why they are saying this is so they can get some big $$$ for it. When this whole thing started Onstar wanted 3 yrs of service. Now they want just one, but the problem is total cost is $315 to have the upgrade done. That doesn't include what I am sure dealer would charge for labor and taxes. I am not going to spend that kinda dough for this. I should be able to do this upgrade w/out having to sign up for anything w/ Onstar. I should be able to have the option to be able to sign up in the future if I want to w/out having to sign up right now just to do this upgrade. Besides the contest if anything else say me or my wife are in an accident, I can't push the emergency button to get help. They way it is now, Onstar is taking that option out unless you want to drop some major $$$ My question is any GM mechanics know how to do the upgrade? Anyone else done it themselves? How hard is it? Instructions? How to get the parts (I think it just involves a module and antenna)? Anything I am missing?
  12. I wanna upgrade the headlights on my Ram Pickup. (01) I figure the members may have some good advice on what the brightest / best headlamp upgrade would be. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch.
  13. The Upgrade of the Year, or I think so. Bike MP3 has an Upgrade Program for the next 5 to 7 days ONLY. 14. Hey ya'll . I just received this email from Bikemp3. Some of you who already have these units on your GoldWings might be interested in this. I'm just passing the word along. I really don't know anything other than what is in this message. News About The V1 MP3 Players Dear BikeMP3 Customer I just wanted to take some time to tell you about our progress with V1 MP3 players for the GL1800 and to make you what we think is an exciting offer. As you will know some users have experienced problems on pre 2006 bikes where they loose control of the change track function. The reasons for this are complicated but above all annoying. Also many users have asked for more functionality from the players. Well, for over a year we have been working with our suppliers to find a remedy to issues and requests and we are happy to tell you that we now have a working solution. What I cannot tell you is that as of today we do not have this solution into a form that we could release to owners of the current players although we are confident that we will soon be able to offer you a solution. However our new factory has made a one time generous offer to all MP3 owners and not just owners of our V1 player but any MP3 player currently being used on a GL1800 regardless of the manufacturer. As long as it is in working condition with all cables and accessories we will upgrade you to our new player for the same low price of $39.99 including shipping. It need not even be integrated just plugged into a GL1800 and working will qualify. After this offer expires the retail for the new player will be $129.99. So tell your friends the offer is open to everyone. So what does this new player offer that makes it worth upgrading to? Well just take a look at the features listed on the right of this page to see the benefits of upgrading, and if the new player does not do what we say it does we will refund your the upgrade fee and return your original player. We are offering 3 upgrade options including one for those of you who want to wait for the fix for our V1 player to be released, however the V1 fix when it comes will just address the lockups it will not offer any of the additional features that the new player offers. We need to organize our records and target our efforts so regardless of your choice we must ask you to visit our website and register your intentions before Friday January 7th 2011 I must emphasize even if you want to wait for the V1 fix we need to know by that date for you to be added to the waiting list this is your final opportunity any requests after this date cannot be accommodated. Current V2 owners that are already on the waiting list will be emailed separately as that list is already closed and we are in contact with effected owners, other V2 users may take advantage of the upgrade program. The upgrade options are $00.00 Keep your old V1 player and wait for the fix $39.99 Send in your old MP3 player and receive the new 2011 V3 $64.99 Keep your old player and receive the new 2011 V3 Register on our homepage WWW.BikeMP3.COM and click the MP3 upgrade product at the bottom of the page All orders must be prepaid with a projected shipping date mid to late January 2011 Please take time to register your intentions as soon as possible Thanks For Your Continued Custom And May I Wish You A Happy And Prosperous New Year Pete Elvin BikeMP3 http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif New Player Features http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif Fix Lockups On Pre 2006 Pause/Stop Function Auto Folder Change Second Aux Port Numeric Index Alphabetic Index Small Form Factor Auto XM Radio Support (No Switch) SD/USB Support Screw In Connections http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif New Player Features http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif Fix Lockups On Pre 2006 Pause/Stop Function Auto Folder Change Second Aux Port Numeric Index Alphabetic Index Small Form Factor Auto XM Radio Support (No Switch) SD/USB Support Screw In Connections http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif
  15. I have searched for an hour and cant find it. There is a specific bike starter that will bolt right on and work perfectly for the MK1 1st gens. I want to upgrade to a 4 brush starter if I am taking the thing off. Anyone have any links or info as to what bikes have a better starter that bolt right on our bikes?
  16. Well here is a continuation of bringing my scoot up to my standards of performance. This weekend Skydoc and me performed the following: 1. Carb diaphragm replacement (21 years and 30K miles) 2. Needle Valve Shim (Interested to see how much this can help) 3. Carb sync 3. Clutch diaphragm spring upgrade (because I was getting some slippage) I can honestly say I was shocked how much the carb tune-up helped. No vibrations at idle and silky smooth cruising down the highway. Overall throttle response is much better (probaly because the carb were so far out of sync). I suspect my fuel mileage will increase too and I am anxious to see the results from a month of driving. I will report back. The clutch spring upgrade will have to wait for an honest assessment as I need to get my seat to Rick for modification and it is raining and will do so most of the week. I want to personally thank Skydoc for cruising down and helping me get a handle on some of my gremlins and for teaching me a thing or two about the black art of carbs. This forum is blessed with so many great folks and I am honored to be a part of it.
  17. With all the luck Whoomp has been having upgrading his ride, got to thinking maybe I should upgrade also. What do you think of this? Not sure it would fit on the trailer, but what the heck......
  18. Okay, I decided that it's time to upgrade my stock Stator to something which offers better performance. From what I have read, Buckeye's seems to be the preferred upgrade unit to install. Many people who are much more knowledgeable than I am regarding electricity, etc. have told me that I am probably over-taxing my stock stator, and that it would be wise to install a higher-output Stator. My question is . . . would it be reasonable to see if I can find a used Buckeye Stator to save a few bucks? Or, is this the type of thing which I shouldn't chance, and just purchase a brand new one? I want to make sure that this job is done right the first time. I also want to be assured that when I buy a new Stator, that I will have a higher performing unit than the stock one I have been using, and that I will be happy with my purchase and the upgrade difference. Thanks Guys & Be Safe! Pete.
  19. I am looking to up grade my stock handle bars to a set of Flanders. Probably will do the whole upgrade to the stainless steel lines. Who has the best price for this upgrade ? If there is someone close to where I live that has done this I would sure like to check it out. Steve
  20. Checked the Garmin site today and there was an software upgrade availible for the Gramin Zumo 660...for you folks who have one...you might ease on over there, plug yours into the PC and let it do you an upgrade.
  21. 01 RSV clutch upgrade issue. So. I followed the instructions (or so I thought, I guess) replaced the half friction disc with the full one, removed the retaining wire and the spring/washer deeley, put it all back together as instructed (lining up all of the 'notches' in the friction discs, etc). Torqued the outer ring with the 6 bolts to the required 70 in-lb, re-installed gasket and cover and now my clutch lever is so stiff I can't even move it with both hands. Mind you, I tried with one hand and it didn't budge - I didn't squeeze much harder than that because I didn't want to break anything. What the crap. Any suggestions on what to check or what went wrong? I am baffled and a little honked.
  22. Has anybody done the upgrade to R1 brakes on a 2nd gen? I went with stainless brake llines shortly after I bought my bike, 'cause the brakes felt awful "soft" after my FJR and Duc. The stainless lines really helped, but I am curious about going to the R1 brakes. They "should" help quite a bit. Ideas?
  23. Well I just did the clutch upgrade on my '09 RSTD with about 1700 miles on it. Took about 2 hours altogether including cleanup and pulling the discs out after realizing I left the washer in there. Good thing I checked the excellent writeup on the site to make sure I was on the right track. All in all it was not to hard but I did worry when I got to the wire, was not sure how to get that out without breaking it. The half disc was hard to get out because it is in there so deep. Any way the clutch pull is a little harder as people have said. I think the friction zone is slightly larger but it engages later on in the travel. I think that is a function of it grabbing better. Any way time will tell. Not sure how you would be able to get that wire back in there if you were to go back to stock. David
  24. For those that are interested I am selling my 83 on Ebay. It has the fuse box upgrade and comes with the headlight upgrade (not installed). I had it painted last year and based on comments I think it looks pretty slick. Has good Metzler 880s on it. Not perfect by any stretch, but should be a good value for someone. Lots of chrome and lights added. If you know someone it should make a great tour bike for a great value for someone. Tried to put it on this site in the classifieds and submitted it twice but it has not shown up. Thanks, Bob
  25. I completed installing the PCW clutch upgrade kit last night and it went together very easily as others have stated. The clutch appears to be working and there is absolutely no slipping. However, I have a question about the friction zone. With the original spring it seemed that the clutch started grabbing when the lever was about 1/2 way out and there was 3/4 of an inch or so of friction zone. With the upgrade it seems that the friction zone is only about the last 1/4 inch of lever travel before the lever is free. It makes me wonder if the clutch is fully engaging. I still have about 1/4 inch of free travel in the lever after fully engaged. Is this consistent with other's experience? Dennis
