  1. Can anyone recomend a magnetic mount tank bag for my 09 RSV? I need it to hold my phone, wallet, glasses and small odds and ends. If you've used one with sucess I'd appreciate pictures! Thanks!
  2. I've done about all I can do to my carbs over the last couple of years and have done alright with fuel mileage. Usually pull between 36 and 40 mpg in town a running in traffic. I'm not all that gentle on the throttle most the time. I was happy with that. A good day is 42 to 44. I had a morning off for a change today so I took off and wandered around on the back roads for a while. Did about 300 miles. I've always wondered how far I could push the bike for miles before I ran it dry. I usually lose my last fuel bar about 140 miles and start looking for a pump. So today I filled a gallon gas can and put it in the side tank and figured I would find out. I kept my speed as close to 60 - 65 as I could for most the miles and lost my last bar at about 160 miles on the odo. Kept rolling until I got nervous as the last 45 miles were going to have to be Interstate. Stop and filled it up. 226.4 on the odo. Took 4.73 gallons. That figures to be 47.86 mpg. I got nuttin to complain about. I must have learned something hanging around here. Ok, So I did not get to answer one question I had. I know the tank is 5.3 gallons. I should have had about 1/2 of a gallon left. Any of you know about how much you can actually draw from the tank? Later, Mike
  3. Many times I go for a short ride and then when I return, I fill the gas tank again at home with my 5 gallon can so when I want to go for my next ride I can without the need to stop at the gas station to fill up. My question is, what is it about the tank design that each time I top off the tank the gas level slowly goes down. I did this one time about 5 times then quit.
  4. Anyone have any step by steps to for gas tank removal from a 2006 RSV??
  5. In the Texas panhandle, I was lucky to get 30mpg on my 99 RSV, but here Kentucky Im averaging in the high 30's with a new high of 39mpg on today's fill up. It's the first time I've ever ridden the bike 200 miles on the same tank of fuel. Maybe it's finally broken in with 101,700 miles on it. About this time last year, I was complaining about not getting 160 miles to a tank of fuel!!
  6. I rode from Buckley to South Prairie to Ohop Lake to Eatonville to Alder Lake State Park. Checked out a couple of camping sites then back. Put some more Seafoam and toped off the gas tank. VR ran perfect.
  7. I'm in need of the cord that comes from radio out to the tank cover. '86 Venture Royal.
  8. Never could find the articule about loose screws on a RSV, but, I know it will happen to the: left and right saddlebag lids trunk lid Now, for my story... Thursday I decided to take the 650 VStar midnight custom out for a spin and rode about 50 miles. Was going down a straight away when "sprong" the top of my gas cap came off and started to go to the road. I hit it with my right knee and it landed in my lap. Then, a metal/rubber section came up and i did the same thing. I slowly stopped and looked at pieces in my lap. In all 3 pieces. A brass piece a rubber piece and the chrome topper. I stuffed a leather glove down the tank hole and proceeded home. Out of curiousity I discovered my RSV locking gas cap fits beautifully on the 650. Probably the exact same cap. Now, I have to drain the gas tank and retrieve the two phillips head screws and the aluminum spring assembly that must have fallen into the tank. Guess what I'm saying is, the gas cap screws need to be added to that list...
  9. Okay I know this exist but can't seem to find it. My better half and I are taking two long trips this year. Both are approx 2000 miles each way. We plan to break it up into 3 days then 2 weeks of riding the 3 days back and 1 to recoup before going back to work. Not that any of that has anything to do with my question but I am getting very excited about the trips. My question is this: I have a Garmin (older one) 2730, and a Nuvi. Is there a program that besides gives routing but will accept input as to how far to space fuel stops and suggest stations around that area. IE I will want to refuel every 225 - 250 miles. (I have a 27 gallon tank but only get about 11-12 mpg when towing the bikes. (sucks) So my range is a bit over 300 miles per tank but don't want to push it.I can find the info with Mapquest but it is a real pain. Is there a better way?
  10. A local leather shop made this bra for me. His suggestion was to fasten the bottom through the bottom tank bolt rather than use clips. I am very happy with it. Only cost me $50.
  11. maybe someone here can help me i have a little spark for the front two cylinders back two are running fine tried sea-foam still on the first tank with sea-foam plenty of power going through the gears any ideas????
  12. My boss went out to her bike to find a horrible surprise. Her tank had collapsed on itself. The tank vent was plugged up and the vacuum crushed the tank. The tank was low on fuel. She had been riding in the 80+ weather we had last week and parked her bike in the shed. Temps dropped back down to below 30.
  13. Anybody know where I can get a good tank bag? Will magnetic ones sratch my paint???
  14. I ordered a hopnel tank bib and when it arrived I tried to install it and the gas filler hole was to small and was cut about 3/4" to low for the filler opening. What is happening with this product as I have seen other people with the same problem on this site. I sent a email to the company yesterday that I purchased it from but haven't heard from them yet. How many have had this problem, are these still made by Hopnel or is it a different company????
  15. I don't know how far most of you go before, but I usually start to look for gas at about 120-130 miles. The fartherest (before today) I ever rode on a tank a gas was about 152 miles... I was in the middle of NOWHERE in Southeast Missouri today and no gas stations around. Even at 165 miles, I still didn't hit reserve...I mighta went a few more miles even. How about some of you. Wally
  16. Looking to install a auxilary fuel tank and was wondering if we can install fuel line directly to existing line from tank or do we have to install another peckcock then add lines to that? I know that the rsv's are not fuel injected but with the fuel pump set up i'm wondering if it's the same.
  17. I just picked up a spare 1st Gen gas tank to put into the '84 and am thinking of creaming it before I install, and having never done one I'm looking for insight...
  18. Woke up this morning to no water in the house.....Went into the basement to checkout our well pump to find that our 80 gallon pressure tank ruptured during the night....yep, flooded basement again...at least my new sump pump was working just fine..not to bad except that the new tank and installation will cost me $850.00.....YIKES..THANK GOODNESS MY PLUMBER WILL LET ME BREAK IT UP INTO THREE PAYMENTS... ..DRAT YOU BOOMER AND YOUR PYGMIES....
  19. I'm new to the form..I have a 1988 Ventuer Royale that has been sitting for the last 5 years. Before I try starting it I would like to remove the gas tank & clean it out & replace the fuel lines. Can anyone help me out on how to do this? Also any other suggestions on what to check on this bike would be helpful. Would like to have it up & going in time for the Rally!!!! Thanx everyone:Venture:
  20. Its a real bummer when a customer asks for your info because your website is no where to be found? Huh? WHAT????!!!!! For those of you who know me and my work please hang in there. I'm still in business and my number is 530-905-0505. My web guy is working fast and furious to figure what the heck happened. I picked up a thread of someone needing a tank bib and another who couldn't find the thread about my work. Well the site is http://www.acehighleathers.com believe me it is a real site! Hang in there with me and I'll make another post when I'm up and running again. In the meantime, anyone with a question can email me (nanci@shasta.com) or call me.

I was stupid on e bay

:confused24:I was bidding for a pair of tank emblems for a 96 RS. I have a 2007 RSTD but don't like the tank emblems. Anyway the pair was being sold individually and all I won was the right side. I was bidding against some one else and bid the same for both thinking I would be beat or win them. Wrong!! well if any one has a set or just the left I would like to buy them from you or I will sell the right hand one. Live and learn I guess. Thanks Reno
  22. Does anyone know where I can get a hopnel tank bib with the pouch for my 2004 midnite venture. I had one before that was braided in the centre and along the outside edges. The ones I see now all have the braid on the outside edges but not in the middle, the middle is plain.
  23. will a tank cover and windshield off an 85 fit my 83.
  24. I put Ponch gauges in my 03 and like it so much but something was missing......some sort of electric monitor. I chose a Kury volt meter and put it in the space where the Cruise switch was. I mountedthe Cruise in the top of the gas tank cover (see pic). So let me know what you think. Thanks Kent
  25. A couple weeks ago, I had a 5 gallon bucket seat that I use for hunting fall out of the rafters and hit the tank on my bike. Of course the soft cushion seat couldn't hit it, it was the bottom of the bucket and it left a dent. Any idea where I can get a replacement? A friend of mine owns a dent remobal company and didn't think he could remove it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.....made me sick!
