  1. Leaving for the beach on spring break in 6 days.MamaMo found out this week she is carrying a hot gallbladder. Were trying to get surgery scheduled as soon as we get back.Taking my fillet knife told her might catch something at the pier if she needs it out sooner.:stirthepot: Had mine done 25 years ago much easier today then it use to be.For now she is watching what she eats and I'm eating her share.
  2. Here in Wisconsin all the snow was almost gone and then this happened starting last night thru today 14.6" of Snow. I hate it , I hate it. Was thinking of getting the bike out being all the snow was gone and it did rain one day to get the salt off the roads but not anymore. Sad to say but just wondering were Spring is and if anyone can find it Please send it our way. Thanks have a great day Need PLEASE ASAP

  4. I know, I know, another "oil" thread... Looking to use some synthetic oil this time around when I perform my oil change on the 85 this spring. What are the better brands to chose from? Which are the ones I should stay away from? Thanks, Bill
  5. Started spring training yesterday - 440 mile ride yesterday. Working up to 500+ miles a day for next month's trip to Key West. First long ride in over a year since last summer we were both laid up after a white water rafting accident. Next weekend we'll be back at training. But boy did my legs ache today after the long ride.
  6. We got 27" of snow in last 24 hour and with the wind I have some drifts that are in the 5 foot range. Doesn't look like the ground hog was right for a early spring for use up here in northern N.Y. Here are a few photos.
  7. Anybody else planning a Spring Break? My wifes favorite place on Earth...is Hatteras Island and the little community of Rodanthe.Call it a Spring Celebration. We are celebrating 30 years of marriage later this fall, and last month we paid in full with Cash the remaining balance on our 4 acre Camp. I had originally planned a week off in April to cleanup around the Camp but the wife is between Jobs right now and needs a break so we negotiated a special rate deal yesterday on the same house I'm renting in June.Maybe I should just leave her down there for 2 months.Hey Mini could you put TROUBLE up for 2 months? H.I. April 9th for a week.
  8. Does anyone know if ANY of the premade lid covers for Harley's fit the RSTD bags? they look similar to our bag shape. Seems it would be easier than trying to get someone to make some. I'm getting things ready for spring and I would like a set of the covers. Thanks Reno
  9. Is the clutch spring on my rstd the same as a 1st gen? If so it has 44000 miles on it and will slip a bit if I roll on the throttle in 4th or 5th gear. can I just go with a stronger spring like I did with my 89vr?
  10. I used to think a man 6' tall 235 lbs was a big man. Nope just a fat one!!! COME ON SPRING!!!
  11. I'm back on the brownie for the week, ride to work ,ride anywhere after work, I have spring fever bad!!
  12. OK, who's goin' other than me and two of my boys? We will be there about noon. I am tall and, ...ahem... big bones, one son is just as tall and thin, the other son is about 6 foot and thin. May be an elderly gentleman (my Dad) with us also. If you see us, stop and say hello. Is it spring yet? RR
  13. Just noticed this morning that I have a small leak right under the engine...I haven't checked it out yet, but it feels like oil. How frequent is it for the newer bikes to spring a small oily leak. I am hoping it is either from the filter or the plug...just not tight enough. I will check out this evening. Wally
  14. ....full of other things at the moment... Does the oil filter go on the bolt BEFORE the spring and washer (pic 1) OR Does the spring and washer go on the bolt before the oil filter (pic 2) From what I'm viewing on the parts catalogue it looks like pic 2 should be correct but it's not absolutely clear, (to this mind at the moment) and I'm sure I've taken these parts off the bolt in BOTH configurations. And before a sharp eye notices...YES, I've got a new o-ring on the bolt...these pics are off the spare parts that are piling up too quickly around here.
  15. I know from reading some past posts that there are a few members here who have updated their front suspension. Since ill have my forks apart for polishing soon I figure this would be a good time to do some upgrading. What is the best choice for a modified front suspension: the Racetech Emulators and a better spring or would Progressive springs alone be enough? Does the emulators replace the air bags in the forks? What about seals? Do these kits come with the necessary seals? Any special tecniques needed for this project? Best synthetic fork oil to use? Part #'s would help. Some of the sites only list springs for the earlier tour deluxe models, not the RSV. Thanks....
  16. I pickup a second Gopro HD last week. So I figure that I sould play with editting with two video tracks. This is just a little bit of video I shot one day last spring. With the Gopro mounted in different places. [ame=http://www.vimeo.com/19106709]Playing With Two Video Tracks on Vimeo[/ame]
  17. Trying to get a few things caught up before I go in next week on the 12th to have my left knee replacement done. Saw the Dr. and the joint is shot bone on bone. Had the right one replaced 2 years ago and its great ( hope this one ends up the same way.) At least doing it now will have me ready to ride come spring. Hope everyone has a fun winter. Steve
  18. I have an '01 RSV. I want to replace the coolant plugs (rubber) under the cooling fins and can't find a P/N anywhere online, does anyone have the numbers I need ? The dimes are working for now but I want to change them out before spring. If there's a list of part numbers somewhere on the forum please give me a link. Thanks
  19. I'm just wondering if anyone here has any experience with this company's rear shock. I was searching around on the Internet and found that this company builds a shock that fits the Royal Star Venture. I wrote there U.S. dealer, Dave Quinn motorcycles in Conn. and promptly received this reply. Happy to help. Hagon makes shocks for 98 and up 1300 Venture Star with VIN prefix XVZ13TF or 4XY. Currently out of stock, can easily get, 2-4 weeks. Cost is $394 plus UPS at cost to you which will vary depending on your zip code. 'Off-the-shelf' shocks are assembled for an average rider- there is enough adjustability in the stock shock to cover a wide range of loading. It would be useful to know your weight, and whether you carry passengers (% of time? Passenger weight?) or luggage (saddlebags? tank bag? top box? loading in each?) and what your maximum loading (passenger/luggage) is likely to be. If Hagons determine that your loading exceeds the design parameters of the shock, they can supply to special order a shock with an uprated spring. Conversely if you are very light, Hagons can for some shocks supply a lighter spring. Softer and harder springs are available as custom built units only for $464 and will take between 4 and 6 weeks to get here. Shocks are also available to special order with a remote hydraulic spring preload adjuster- $554 for a stock spec shock and $624 for an upgraded spring model. Hagon monoshocks are fully rebuildable and feature straight weight spring with adjustable spring preload (threaded manual or hydraulic remote adjuster), adjustable 15 position LINKED compression and rebound damping (one adjuster for both) and a two year unlimited mileage warranty against failure due to manufacturing defect. Bent shocks due to accident, impact, dropped bike, improper installation or owner malfunction will not be warranteed. Shocks are not returnable once they have been fitted. All adjusting tools are included with the shock. You can see representative Hagon monoshocks online at http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/HAGON_MONOSHOCKS.html Shipping and insurance will be charged at cost and will vary depending on what you order, your zip code and any fuel surcharges in effect on the day your order ships. We ship by UPS in the continental USA, by Priority Mail to AK and HI and by US Mail Express International outside of the USA. For special orders we ask for a 50% good faith deposit when Hagons accept the order, with the balance due when we ship. Please note- Special orders are not returnable unless found to be defective. If you're interested in ordering, we accept VISA & Mastercard; we need: -name as it appears on your credit card -daytime phone number -billing address for the card -ship-to address if different -card number -expiration date. Call or Fax if you are uneasy about emailing credit card details. Let me know if I can offer you any other information. 20. Has anyone repacked there Bubs with the cermic material? Some where I read that it lasts 5-7 time longer. Onr gentleman said he has over 20,000 miles and no need to repack them. Checks them every spring and they look just like the day he put it on.
  21. Hi, I have a set of new tires to put on my bike but of course the roads are snow and ice covered but I would like to get this done before the spring time rush. How difficult a job is it to remove the wheels for a mechanically challenged person to perform? thank you in advance Chris
  22. Has anyone ever tackled this job? Since the shock has less than 5K miles on it, I don't really want to replace the entire thing. But, considering the progressive spring mod if it's not horridly difficult.
  23. So from reading other clutch threads it seems you can just double up the clutch spring and get a better feel. I've been thinking about the PWC clutch kit, but concerned that several people have complained about the change in friction point on the clutch lever. Does doubling up the stock spring do that also? And if not, does anyone that upgraded to the PWC have a stock spring they want to get ride of. Also instead of the PWC kit, can one just get the PWC heavier spring, I read someone here didn't like the feel of the kit and just used the spring, but I can't see paying for the whole kit if I just need the spring.
  24. I got the adjustment knob off, rubber gasket off & the female electrical plug off > now I see a "u" shaped spring holding the bulb in the headlight. I do not understand the instructions elsewhere of how turning the bulb 90 degress to the left will free it from the u shaped spring! or how long needlenose pliers help!
  25. Well here is a continuation of bringing my scoot up to my standards of performance. This weekend Skydoc and me performed the following: 1. Carb diaphragm replacement (21 years and 30K miles) 2. Needle Valve Shim (Interested to see how much this can help) 3. Carb sync 3. Clutch diaphragm spring upgrade (because I was getting some slippage) I can honestly say I was shocked how much the carb tune-up helped. No vibrations at idle and silky smooth cruising down the highway. Overall throttle response is much better (probaly because the carb were so far out of sync). I suspect my fuel mileage will increase too and I am anxious to see the results from a month of driving. I will report back. The clutch spring upgrade will have to wait for an honest assessment as I need to get my seat to Rick for modification and it is raining and will do so most of the week. I want to personally thank Skydoc for cruising down and helping me get a handle on some of my gremlins and for teaching me a thing or two about the black art of carbs. This forum is blessed with so many great folks and I am honored to be a part of it.
