  1. I'm hoping the infinite wisdom here can help me with this. When I really jump on it and get the rpms up, my oil light comes on. At my last service (20K) I mentioned this and they said they couldn't duplicate it, but it still does it every time I jump on it (not that often). I thought it might be that I didn't have quite enough oil in it, so I added a little to no effect. Anyone else have this problem? What did you do about it? I'm now due for my 24K service and want to mention it again, but my thinking is that they never tested it the first time. I just don't like when an idiot light comes on because I know it's talking to me. Thanks in advance.
  2. Thought I would post this information here for any of our member Vets who are planning on drawing their Social Security. Anyone who has served on active duty prior to January 2002 is qualified for a higher SS payment because of their military service at any time during the period of 1957 through 2001. You can qualify for up to $1,200.00 per year of earning creidits applied at time of application. This can make a substantial difference in your month social security payment upon retirement. You must bring your DD-214 to the SS office. and you must ask for this benefit to receive it. This is not just for military retirees, but for anyone having active duty service during the eligability period. But You must ask for it. For additional information, go to www.ssa.gov/retire2/military.htm
  3. Trying to post these photo's Friend of mine, just sent me these photo's of his neighbors ride !! Old Mustang 2 wheeler, thought sombody might be interested in knowing that at least 2 of them are still in service !!!
  4. I'm wanting to replace the fluid, and check things out in the front forks of my 83 Venture. The first thing I need to do is figure out how to remove the plastic piece where the key and air valve are. I don't want to force something and end up braking it, but I can't find how to remove it in the service manual.
  5. Just an FYI on my most recent order from Southwest Moto Tire in Tucson, Arizona. I have ordered from them many times before and always received the tires within 2-3 days (standard free shipping). I always considered this fantastic service. I just placed an order for three tires last Wednesday - Fed-ex shipping confirmation estimates delivery NEXT Wednesday - full 7 days. May not be too bad, but it is a far cry from what I have come to expect from SWMT. Can't say if this is due to the new owners or just a strange set of circumstances, but thought I'd at least share the info. Goose
  6. I took my 06 RSTD in to the dealer today to have the cruise control worked on. I asked that they synch the carbs. I have been out all day since I dropped it off. When I came in I checked my messages and had one from the dealer (I will leave the dealers name unkown until I have a chance to see what else they come up with). Quote from the service manager "Techs say they cannot synch my carbs because I have only ONE". Am I worried about what else they are supposed to do! You Bet!
  7. I'm just curious if any of you use an online service such as ETrade, Scottrade, etc. to buy and sell stocks? I know that times are bad right now but I also think it's a GREAT time to make some money in the stock market if you invest wisely. I've never used an online service but there are a couple of stocks that I am intersted in right now.
  8. The wife has 65K on her 05 Chevy Colorado with the 5 cylinder motor. Truck runs great but this is the third time it has been in for a engine service light on. GM dealer says even though it's out of warranty they will fix it for free. Something about a head replacement,Valve stem wear issue. The dealer says about $2K in work at no charge.I heard they were extending the warranty to 7 years or 100K for this problem. Has anybody had this problem fixed? I'm concerned about long term life of that motor. I would like to get about 200K of service from it.The plan was to run it another 5 years after paying it off and convert a truck payment into a new house investment. So much for a plan.Does anybody know of the I5 engines getting high mileage out of that motor.
  9. OK, I've got my rear wheel off to get the rotor turned and brake pads replaced. I'm planning on replacing the 6304 bearing , but I noticed that there's another bearing also. In the service manual, it's number is NK 26 x 35 x 25/3A. Is it neccessary for me to replace this one as well? My bike is an '84 VR with 71,000 miles. Thanks!
  10. I was honored this morning to attend the retirement ceremony for Sargeant First Class Wilkinson, known to us here as SapperMedic. He leaves the U.S. Army after 25 years of service as a Combat Medic. Wilkie- thanks for your years of service and I hope you enjoy your riding season this year. I miss seeing your 1986 parked around the corner. Mocha is going to feel lonely when I get back to riding. JB

  12. Somebody tell me all the negative reasons why I should not dump my dsl and go satellite for my ISP. My only source of internet is Frontier dsl my phone provider. No other source exist other then satellite and dial up which I am on now.I have had nothing but problems with my dsl connections for 2 years and tech support is no help. When it runs good it downloads at 1200kb but slows down to a crawl 37kb yesterday. This happens at some point almost daily. Now I have a new problem it's totally dead, gone, out of service for the third weekend in a row.I had a long conversation with customer service and tech support yesterday morning. they offered a one time only $40 credit a months service fee but had no explanation for the failures.Every week when I call tech support I ask the same question. Is anybody else in the state of WV having a problem and the answer is NO nothing reported but my neighbors are complaining to.The phone company has retired all the people that knowed what they were doing and layed off the rest. Also no field service available on weekends M-F only. Just had to vent I'm on Ramona's labtop on dialup. My contract for dsl will be up in April for renewal.
  13. Has anyone bought the RepairPro RSTD Service Repair Manual? I see them on eBay (like this current one) and wonder how well done it is. I have that other eBay manual, the Yamaha Service Manual in PDF, and I don't like it. It lacks certain information I'd think would be covered (recommended oil grade and filter size?). I'm hoping this CD-based thing will be better. Is it?
  14. I just learned my favorite Yamaha dealer is going out of business. I don't know exactly when but everything is being liquidated. For those of you anywhere near Morris, IL you may want to check ProSource Motorsports. He was advertising new 08 Ventures for dealer cost. I am concerned now because he had a great service dept. Now where do I go for great service?
  15. Looking for feedback on local Yamaha service centers in the San Antonio/Hill country area. Not having any trouble with the bike right now. We just bought an RSV and hopefully will not need service for a long time to come. But would like to find the best available service center when needed. Thanks much, Ken
  16. I received this information from Douglas Harless and thought it was worth passing on. As you know, most cell phone providers charge extra if you call directory assistance. Google offers a free service that does the same thing. I haven't tried it yet but understand that it works very well. They even connect you. http://www.google.com/goog411/
  17. Hello guys, Just wanted to put in my two cents worth. I took your advice and got new rubber for my '05 Venture. I went with the Avon Venom X plus I changed out the size on the front tire to the MT90B16 (130/90). I'm not sure how much of the improvement is from the new tread and tire and how much is from the narrower width, but this bike handles so much better now it's unbelievable. I also discovered in the process that my local dealer (Family Power Sports) here in San Angelo, TX. is selling their tires at dealer cost to try an build their service business. I got the tires for $105 on the front and $115 on the rear with no shipping cost. But if you are close enough to buy from them, DON'T HAVE THEM INSTALL THEM! Their service department sucks.
  18. If I buy this bike is someone near that can hold until I can get it I will pay for the service. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-XVS12-1983-Yamaha-Venture-needs-work_W0QQitemZ130268423913QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item130268423913&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A10%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
  19. I am posting this up for Wingman, Jamie French. He is having to part with his beloved 2005 GW and matching trailer, anyone that has seen this bike knows the care that has been taken, it has regular service by a local shop here and is in immaculate condition. It has never been in an accident or dropped. This is a beautiful bike and has been well cared for. This GW has plenty of chrome accessories and tons of led's. It has am/fm, cd changer, cb radio with rear control, ring of fire light on front wheel and so much more and has custom pin striping. The pictures are posted, the bike is pretty dirty since he rode it last in the rain. All the chrome is Kurakyn all professionally done by the local Georgia Trike shop, which is where Jamie has all his service done. Also note that the trailer is painted and stripped to match the bike. Sure wish I had the bucks to take it off his hands. This is gonna be a deal for some lucky soul. Price with trailer is $13,500.00 Jamie can be contacted at 770-714-7190. If you have difficulty reaching him you can pm me or call me, my number is listed on the VR assistance list.
  20. I have recently developed a squeak in the rear suspension. I notice it mostly when getting off and on the bike, but it must be telling me something needs to be lubed. I dont have a service manual if someone can tell me what it need it would be very helpful
  21. I would like to give a big public "Thank You" to Squidley. I asked around for info on RK muffler brackets and he had a set for me. Top quality in service and craftsmanship. Thanks Squidley!!!!!
  22. So i called my nearest ymaha shop to get a new front tire. they asked what bike and year and after they looked up the tire they had service set up a time to install it. they again asked what bike and year. so all was good. the tire came in today and when i talked to service they said oh we dont work on any bike older then a 2000 even just to install a tire that they said they would when i ordered the tire? I was pissed but they had already charged my card when they ordered it. they mount it but if i bring in the wheel though.
  23. A little bit of a long story, but avoid or be very careful with Carlock Powersports in Jackson TN. At least when we raised he** with the manager he made them do it close to right. While we were at the bikefest, the back tire dwindled quicker than expected so... Off to Jacksonville, TN to find another. Ended up at Carlock Powersports (The local Yamaha/Kaw dealer) A. The didn't have the right size rear AT ALL. B They only had the Bricks. After being told by the parts dept. that they had nothing, I asked one of the other workers out front if there was anyone else that might have a tire (Had already checked Honda and Harley shops) At least this guy realized that we need a tire BAD. He says surely we have something close enough! so, back in we go. Found a 130/90-15 (close enough at this point) Service guy asks what bike and I told him a 06 TD, he says it will be $70 to mount it - (YEAH, we're off!). Pulled around, he looks at the bike and says Oh, that will be $140 to mount. They knew we were from out of town, they could see by looking that we NEEDED the tire and decided they would get some extra to go play. I argued with him for a bit, he went to the service manager and came back and said it was a hard tire to change due to shaft drive and all(Guess other 06 TD's aren't shaft with bags) and it would be 120. I told him straight out that he was gouging me :headache:and my normal guy charges $55. But go ahead since we gotta have it. We then went and found the manager and told him they were gouging us since our guy can do it in 45 minutes and this places labor rate is $80/hr. Manager at least went back and checked, then came back and said well, they should have said it may take a couple of hours and he was sorry they didn't make it clear but they would charge the hourly rate. (I had already clocked them when they started. Took the guy 45 mins - they still charged $89. But at least it wasn't $120. I told the service kid that he needed to learn how to explain to customers that the hourly rate is X and we think it will take this long but may be up to that long and the charge MIGHT be Y. He didn't seem to care. I know, will get rid of that 130 Brick ASAP:8:. Forgot how noisy those suckers are, at least it does have tread and does stick to the road. You would think that a dealer would welcome someone from out of town and try to be gracious and show a little compassion for someone stuck on the road. Got back to bikefest and someone else told us you really have to watch them, they like to charge outragous prices and take a really long time to do simple stuff. Other than that - the people of Jackson and Lexington(especially) are VERY NICE people and a great bunch. The bikefest was to raise money for the battered childrens shelter and they do a great job.
  24. I am looking for recommendations for two top RSV dealers in Western Washington. Or to put it another way; Who have you been most satisfied with, both from a service and sales standpoint? I am familiar with Tacoma Motorsports, Eastside Motosport in Bellvue, and I-90 Motorsports in Issaquah. None of these seem to be interested in RSVs and one place I couldn't even get someone to get off the A$$ to find out what I wanted (hello Tacoma). I have been happy with service at I-90 Moto in Issaquah (for my VStar) but their sales group do not seem interested in RSVs. I am willing to spend the bucks at any place between the Oregon border to the Canadian one if I can be satisfied with BOTH the initial experience and (more imortantly) the follow-up service (as they will be my wrench turners). Here is the opportunity to recognize the truely deserving guys (and if you want to warn of the dark side that is OK too). John
