  1. Does anyone have a set of stock pillow-top seats they'd like to sell, or know of a set for sale anywhere for a reasonable price? After parking my RSV on a somewhat steep incline (to the left) this weekend, and not having enough inseam to get leverage to push it back off the side stand, I'd like to get myself lower in the bike. My first thought was to lower the bike, but I've already scraped floorboards in the twisties, so I'm hesitant to go that route. I'd like to get a set to send to Rick Butler to see if he can get me (and my wife) lower in the bike while still being well-padded. We really like the comfort of the stock seats, though, and want to keep a set in case the modifications don't work out for some reason, and I end up lowering the bike instead.
  2. I talked with Des at the daytona store about the Ultimate seat for the RSV, He stated he had thought about making a seat cover with pad we could place on our stock seat pan. he said this would keep the cost down, because the tooling for a seat pan was the big expense. I described the problems I have with the pillow top and the reg venture seat, he looked and mine and could see what needed to be changed. He remembers me well I bought one of his first seats for the valkyrie. My wife tried one on her Road Star but it did not lower her any, which is what she was after. The ultimates are the most comfortable seats I have ever ridden, high dollar but worth it. If you are interrested, email Des at www.ultimateseats.ca with enough intrest I think he will produce us a seat, he said he was begining to se more Ventures, and thought maybe there is a market for an Ultimate for the RSV. My brother sat on the Goldwing seat and said it was awsome. I told him as soon as he got the first one made, its mine. Gregg
  3. I was visiting a shop that specializes in custom Motorcyle and vintage car seats.I have a pearl 2006 RSTD and ask his opionon about recovering my saddle with tan leather. He thought it would look great but warned me that most all bikes other than custom choppers have black seats and it may effect the resale value.I have seen RSV's with the tan leather and personally like the way they looked.Any thoughts regarding breaking the norm or pics of bike with the tan leather saddles?
  4. So did all RSV's come with the pillow top seats? If not which did just wondering. Thanks
  5. Thanks to Rick Butler's easy to follow instructions and pic's we saved some $$$$$ and decided to have a go at doing the seat mods ourselves. As I needed special bits here and there, on both seats and the back rest, we tackled them on the weekend AND it worked:clap2::clap2:Quickstep said the rider seat was more comfortable for him now, so that was a bonus as we were concentrating on getting it right for me! So thanks again Rick.
  6. During our all day rides on hot days, my backside sweats quite a bit. I am convinced that it is from the Vinyl on the seat. My Back also sweats alot where the backrest rides. I do not sweat in my Truck which has Leather seats. So, I am thinking about having my seats on the bike redone in Leather. Has anyone here done this? Do you think it would help? I know I could use beads or Sheepskin, I just don't want the hassle. craigr
  7. hey guys & ladys, just wanted to let you know that I have a compleat set of seats -taken off of my 05 - for sale. The driver seat has had the RICK BUTTLER touch- rick made it a little shorter for me and I like the way it sets. they are in good shape, the pass=seat has only about 500 butt miles:hurts: anyway, I got another seat I want to try so I'm going to sell these .. I probbley will wish I did't' cause rick did such a good job fixing it. If any one wants to talk about it just pm me. it is a pillow top. thanx jack
  8. I'm thinking of trying one of the Venture seats on my rstd. There's one on Ebay now and the bid is up to $132. Are these seats worth that much money? I've never seen an stock seat sell for that much. It has a couple of days left ...dunno how high the bid might go but I don't think I'll bid that high for a stock seat. I'd sure like to buy one to try though. Art
  9. Hey Folks, Rex and I had a great time at Don's this year. Boy it was a grueling ride to get there and back but I'm glad we came. And I didn't mean to be ani-social with the other activities but I was kept pretty busy out in the back shop for Friday and Saturday reworking seats. And I hope I was able to take care of everyone that had replied to my original post. I had a list started before I got there but lost track in about a day. But I did manage to work in several of you who came up to me while I was working on seats. Sunday morning, I finished Smoke Eater's midnight seats and then went to breakfast with Don, Bob and Smoke Eater before heading back to Texas, where we made it back home around 7:30 last night. So for those who observed the Butt Butler in action, what I do to a seat is no longer a mystery or a secret. And it was a great honor to finally put faces to names as well as previous customers. So I'll probably see some of you again in August at the Hub. But this time I'm coming as Rick Butler and bringing my wife Linda. Thanks for the memories, Rick
  10. I see a lot of talk about how hard the Corbin seat is but I have not read anything about if it is comfortable or not. I'm a little confused I guess because if the Corbin is so hard why do you see so many Ventures with Corbin seats? I'm so confused.
  11. Hey Guys, Don has been trying to get me up to Oberlin for his Work Day for several years now and it seems like I always have a conflict. However this year I've decided that I'm coming, come hell or high water. But after watching Kent's thread on getting this event more organized, my question to all of you is: would you like me to bring the "Butt Butler" with me, since he won't be doing anything during this time. Now he wouldn't be able to work for free because this wouldn't be fair to all the other guys whose seat (s) he has worked on in the past. But if you thought you would like him to rework your seat this weekend, it would save you around $50 or so in shipping. But on the other hand, I would not want to be guilty of turning this social gathering of friends into a commercial affair. I have already talked this over with Don and he said it would be ok with him if you all would be alright with it. And "No" is certainly a valid answer because if you feel I should leave him at home, I'll just bring the "Bike Butler" and help turn wrenches. But if I did bring him, he would only be able to get enough foam up there for maybe 10 seats, which would also be about the right number of seats to rework in 2-3 days. And it would probably work best to have everyone that was interested, to go ahead and get a schedule with him started? So whatchathink? Rick
  12. I have a 06 RSV with the pillow top seats. Have just noticed that there is an area on both the passengers and riders seat that is turning gray, like the black dye is fading. has any one else experienced this? Does any one know how to fix this an do you think it would be covered under the factory guarantee ? The bike is always garaged and I have frequently used leather products on the seats.
  13. I just bought a very slightly used set of the Corbin seats that Yamaha markets for my 2006 RSTD. They are called the "Comfort Cruise Solo Seat" and "Custom Cruise Tour Pillion" Does anyone know of a drivers backrest that will work with these? Or any rain covers? Any help is appreciated. Here's a link to the seats that I am talking about, I have the plainer ones with out studs: http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/pages/catalogs/products/26/801/2247/1/0/0/1/4/90/68/329/seats-backrests.aspx Thanks Bob LeDuc
  14. Hi friends has anyone changed the driver and passenger seats on a RSTD to the RSV seats? Snowing like hell here by the way; yesterday it was 76 degrees out. Damn maybe this weekend I can get out my 09 RSTD. Wyoming Tom
  15. A couple of weeks ago I sent my seats off to Rick Butlerto do his "Butt Butler" modification to them. Mariner Fan had asked me to let him know how I like them now. We were on the St. Judes ride this weekend. Rode a total of about 1310 miles. 170 on Thursday, 491 on Friday, 220 on Saturday and 430 on Sunday. I can tell you there was a big difference from when we rode Labor Day weekend and put on 900 miles. Neither of us had any pain from tailbone pressure whatsoever. In fact, before we would be ready to stop and rest our butts well before we needed fuel. Now, we rode from fuel stop to fuel stop with no problem and weren't sore after the long days. I would highly recommend this seat mod to anyone looking for more comfort for longer trips. It's well worth the money. My 06 Black Cherry has Midnight seats not pillowtops and we were quite comfortable for all day long. Rick is a pleasure to deal with, turns the seats around very quickly and his price is very reasonable. He has an ad in the classifieds if you're interested. Until having this done we were considering buying a set of pillowtop seats but we both feel we don't need to look into that any longer. Besides, the studs on these seats look cool with the other chrome this bike has on it.
  16. Corbin Pacific - Motorcycle Seat Maker Up For Sale
  17. Shipped my seat off to Rick Butler this morning. I have parked my butt on 2 Venture seats that he has done his Mod to and I am very confident in his craftsmanship.
  18. Does any of the current Mustang Seats fit on a 2007 Venture if anyone knows please let me know. If not how about everyone jump onto the Mustang Seats Web sight go to contact us and send an e-mail asking when they are going to make a seat for the Ventures. I've had mustang seats on other bikes and really like them (personal preference) As we all know a few thousand e-mails have a tendency to gain the undivided attention of a company so please it will only take a minute or two. Thank You Animal
  19. Are any Midnight seat sets made without the chrome studs?
  20. I have a '03 Venture. I bought it used and it had a Corbin seat on it. The corbin is a nice looking seat and has been pretty good for short rides. I took a 400 mile 10 hr trip on Tuesday. My behind hurt so much that I was standing at every red light that I came too. I had to make a two hour trip today. I had purchased a stock seat a few months back and thought I would put it on and give it a shot. The seat is off a RSV midnight. To say it was uncomfortable is a understatement. Pushed my testies up and was just uncomfortable on the bottom. I did like the fact that it seem to be lower and pushed me a little fwd toward the tank. I'm 5'8" , with a 28" inseam. With all these facts I have been looking at seats and seat conversions. I need to know what others have and what they think of them. I've looked a the Russel All Day, a lot of money, but have not really heard of anyone having one. I know seats are like oil everyone has their own preference. But this is a lot of money, anyway I would go. Need help with options and riders thoughts. Thanks in advance.
  21. Last fall, someone here mentioned connecting some tubing into the coolant circuit of the engine and running it through your jacket for heat. It was said as a joke, but the idea was that it was free heat and didn't load down our low output stator. The nuisance would be to connect and disconnect yourself from a water line all the time. But what about running a water line through the seats? Laugh if you want, but this is halfway feasible, isn't it? The seats are removed only seldom. Maybe the lines could even be long enough that the seat could be removed and set down next to the bike without disconnecting lines, or maybe not. Maybe use some quick disconnect fittings, like those used in high pressure air lines. Put a valve in the line to shut the heat off during the summer. I suppose grooves would have to be cut in the seat foam to make room for the lines. Then maybe put a thin piece of foam over top of it all. Go ahead and laugh, but why wouldn't this work? Who's going to be the first to try one? Hey, someone has to think of something first and get laughed at. People laughed at Alexander Graham Bell right over the telephone. So said Barney Fife, anyway.
  22. I'd like to get my seats & backrests recovered. Time was, I'd do it my self. I think those days are done. What are my options? Toronto area would be most convenient. Thanks, Brian H. Uxbridge Ont
  23. Is anyone using the Russel Seat (Saddle)? If so, how do you like it? Have you used any other aftermarket seats that you can compare it with? Thanks for your comments. MickO
  24. I am away from home and need to get some measurements on the seats on a 2nd Gen pillow top (had to leave the bike behind this time). Need the measurement from front to rear on both seats and the width on both as well. Thanks for any help you can give.
  25. Hey Guys, I thought I'd give you all a heads-up that Linda and I are leaving for a 2 week vacation on June 21st to West Virginia and the Smokey Mountains, etc. Therefore the "Butt Butler" will NOT be IN until probably July 7th. I have told this to the last few folks recently that were interested in my seat mod and I'm sending out Steve Wallace's RSTD seat today. And I think I have one more seat headed my way to complete before we leave. So, if you have not shipped your seat to me as of today June 13th, please wait until after July 4th. Then I will be happy to fix your seat. And on the subject of fixing seats, I thought I'd like to give you all a little insight into what I have learned recently from re-working seats. Even though I have been doing my tail-bone relief for maybe 20 years, I have learned much more since I have been using memory foam to layer seats before putting the cover back on. It not only fills in the seat cover from the foundation foam that I've removed but it's such a pleasureful material to sit on. It does not have a linear resistence that most foams have when sat on. It compresses fully to the foundation foam whan sat on from those pressure points and then doesn't compress where there is no pressure. Secondly, I have always used a electric carving knife to remove most of the foam. This is done to take any crown or forward pitch that is in the seat, or more recently to cut a curvature into the back of the seat to let you set back into the it. I don't know why Yamaha in their wisdom built a flat surface into the back of their seats? To me it just created another pressure point that is annoying. The reason I have only recently discovered this issue, is that I've been riding on a Travelcade Road Sofa for the past 20 years. And even some aftermarket seats have comfort issues that I've had to personally deal with. And I'll have to admit that the Road Sofa for the 2nd gen is nothing like what they made for the 1st gen Ventures. And IMHO gel inserts are highly overrated. They not ony absorb heat when sat out in the sun, the gel still creates pressure points that are uncomfortable. In fact I reworked a Travelcade Road Sofa for a 2nd gen few months ago and discovered gel inserts which I was not expecting. However I had worked around them on my Road Sofa a year earlier and had planned on doing this one the same. However the more I got to looking at the seat with the inserts out, I realized that I could cut the edges of the insert indentions out and still have plenty of foundation foam to work with. Plus it automatically gave me a seat that was 3/4" lower, which works well for those of us that are inseam challenged. And with a 1 1/2" of memory foam, the seat cover still fits like it was intended. But, I've only recently found a small pneumatic right angle grinder with a 4" 60 grit sanding pad that I could easily control and vary the speed. This tool is critical to put a final smooth finish on the foam after I have cut it down with the carving knife. However it really puts off some fine foam particles, so after a short period of smoothing down foam, it looks like I've been snowed on. This is why I do this work outside under my carport. Sorry I got long winded explaining why I won't be available until after July 4th. But I need to go get a couple of tires changed for a our trip coming up. Thanks, Rick Oh and FYI, if you have not noticed, I have a classified ad here for my Butt Butler Seat Mod http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/1023/cat/7/date/1157932426
