  1. Well made it home safe and sound. Was gone 6 weeks did 11 states and 4100 miles. Had a great visit with my sisters and mom in CA and got to see some old friends from my much younger days. Had a horrible hot ride across hwy 50 in Nv and UT but was great going thru the Rockies. Met some nice bikers from all over the states and Canada. Even ran into a couple in the middle of the desert in Nv from Missouri got to talking and found out he was my aunts first cousin. Just never know who you might run into out riding the country. Now tto clean the bike and get ready to go visit friends at the Hub. Sharon and I will be down early fri morning Bill can only stay for the day she has to work sat. John
  2. Saw a Venture and several STAR Riders at the Bikers For Boobs Poker Run today in Carrollton, GA. We"re any of you members here?
  3. I have some friends that race cars both circle and drag race and some of them use something called wetter than wet in the radiator to make the cars run cooler and I didnt know if anyone has used it in there bikes? Might make them run cooler in the summer and not be some hot all the time in town.
  4. All of my other trailers have larger wheels (12"/14") than my motorcycle trailer (8"). On a recent 400 mile stroll at mostly x-way speeds, I noticed that the motorcycle trailers hubs were very warm to the touch. I wouldn't call them "hot" but it was very close. Before this trip I had hand greased the bearings and they all looked perfect. The only thing I questioned was the free play that I left in the bearing. Before I took them apart there was, what I would call, too much play. The next tighter notch in the nut that would allow the cotter pin in, was....not snug, but left very little play. I haven't pulled them back apart yet, to see how they look now. At any rate, I'm wondering how hot these things normally run, my experience says warm is normal, but I've never run 8" wheels before. How hot do yours run?
  5. What fuel does every one use?? I have been using the highest Octane I can get get, but read that some just run Regular gas???
  6. hi folks.. On my recent 7400 mile trip we crossed into Oklahoma and onto a short portion of Route66.. neat.. then we looked at each other and decided that perhaps doing the Route66 run would be a good trip.. If I understand it correctly, the "route" starts in Santa Monica California and ends in Illinois? Has anyone done this trail before? If so, how many miles is it and how long does it approximately take to do it? We're not the type of riders who like to stop at all the tacky shops and tourist traps but like to ride and will pull over for what is worthwhile.. We're also not 'campers'.. being gentlemen of leisure, retired after 30 yrs of military commitment, we're happy to 'hotel' our way through road trips, thanks =) Nothing like a hot tub after 500 miles a day of slab riding.. If you've done the run and have any advice or suggestions, please drop me a line (email is fine).. we're starting to plan our next spring road trip early lol..
  7. I had the honor today to participate in a short section of Run for the Wall 2010. I Rode, with a number of other Mississippians from Jackson, MS to Tallulah, La to meet those riding the Southern Route. From Tallulah, The first stop was the Trail of Honor at the Harley dealership in Jackson. I'll post more pictures later, but here are the most moving ones... 8. Ok folks here it is. Last fall while at the Cody Round up the notion of a possible "run for the Potato" was brought up and some interest was expressed. Potato equates with Idaho... Dates were tossed around, Memorial day week end was suggested, the only problem with that date is that Idaho weather is quite unpredictable during that weekend, (usually accompanied with rain) We have room for camping, we can rent porta-potties, we are twenty miles south of Salmon Idaho right on the river, very nice atmosphere, some excellent scenic rides. Seems there was a post recently regarding name the five best states to ride... come to Idaho and find out for yourself you might add Idaho to your favorites. We brew our own Cerveca and would be excited to make a special brew just for this event. We grow our own tobacco for you cigar lovers and are always excited to share. Our local Yamaha dealer has expressed an interest in sponsoring some of the ride...BBQ, etc.. One of the events we enjoyed most at the Cody run was the last night dinner where we all pretty much contributed to a communal meal. We found the relaxed atmosphere and jovial inclusion enhanced the whole experience. With that said, we would like to create a similar atmosphere. This can range from Fish taco feed to a large scale BBQ; there are numerous possibilities depending on expressed interest. (For you that have not experienced fish tacos..you have been missing out) Feed Back PLEASE! Teri n Erv
  9. The 22nd Run For The Wall http://www.rftw.org/ departed yesterday on their 10 day trip from California to DC. The ride is to promote healing among ALL veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action (POW/MIA), to honor the memory of those Killed in Action (KIA) from all wars, and to support our military personnel all over the world. There are 2 routes, a Central Route and a Southern route. I will be joining the SR Sunday morning in Terrell, TX to ride with them for 2 days to Meridian, MS. If you see a group of 300 to 400 bikes going down the highway between now and the Friday before Memorial Day you will know what it is. They will participate in Rolling Thunder http://www.rollingthundermotorcyclerally.com/ on Sunday May 30 which is more than 250,000 motorcycles riding thru the nations capital.
  10. How well does a bike run with a fauled plug?
  11. I really don't understand all the comments about the kumho on a Venture. I know that 150 miles isn't much of a test run ( compared to 1000 miles or so) but I can hardly tell there's something different on the rear of the bike. I know I don't ride like some on here, I'm really laid back and the 150 miles we rode today took almost 5 hours including a nearly 1 hour stop for lunch and ice cream. I guess in my part of Ohio we are blessed with miles and miles of state and county roads that have twisties as well as some pretty nice hills and can be biked at 30 to 50 mph without the fear of being run over by traffic. Bottom line, the Kumho will probably develop dry rot before it wears out
  12. This is very short notice, but if you're interested, tomorrow is the Blue Ridge Fest benefit poker run. registration online or starting 0830. Blessing of the bikes at 0900 and starts running from 0915 till 1100. cost $25.00 last year they had like 500 bikes. It's supposed to be a 100 mile run starting in Pickens SC and ending in Anderson SC (at the HD store I believe) Brenda and I would like to go but I am not too interested in running a group of one. If any of you guys wants to join up PM me and we'll see where and when we can join up. If you are already planning on going and don't mind additional company let me know. temps in the upper 80 w. chance of isolated T'stroms
  13. i noticed after my last ride the rear tire was at the point of needing replacing. i've been running the Avon Venon X and really am satisfied with it. i got 8500 miles on the rear and 95% of my riding is two up (07 RSTD). is that in line with what others who run the Avon are getting out of their rear tire? i run 42lbs in it. my front tire looks to be in very good condition and was wondering what others are getting out of their front Avons? btw i ordered a new rear Avon from SW Moto on 5-9 and the new tire arrived today-this is my second time dealing with them and they are fast.
  14. Had a good ride Sunday. Went to Victoria for the "Ride for Dad" to raise funds for prostate cancer research. They had about 800 bikes and raised over $100,000.00 for research. They closed the streets through Victoria so we could run out to Ogden point then start the poker run through Saanich. My three queens weren't even in the running. On average two men a week die of prostate cancer just on Vancouver Island, in Canada it is 12 per week. The numbers have to be much higher in the US just due to higher population. There are about 20 cities in Canada that have this run. They are expecting about 2000 bikes in Vancouver next week. Get that PSA test every year, it can save your life, it saved mine.
  15. After 1000 miles of trying different PSI and getting use to the tire I am still torn. First of I will say this is not for everyone by any means. If you are a casual rider, long trips, or just a comuter then you may want to concider the dark side. However if you are an agresive rider that loves the sound of the floor boards on the road at 70+mph it may not be for you. I have found my sweet spot as far as PSI in the tire but it is 5lbs over the max sidewall rating. I am a very agresive rider so the presure others run didn’t work for me. PRO’S Great stoping traction, great wet road traction, great interstate ride, and you can do burn outs all day and not hurt the tire. CON’S Bouncy ride almost like a bad shock or low tire, when agresive in a turn I get a drifting feeling and you have to counter steer a lot sooner. I will continue to run the C/T for now just to see how much abuse it can take. This is only my opinion and anyone wanting or thinking of trying this all I can say is take your time it’s a diferent ride and if it works for you it will save you money. If it doesn’t work for you then it was an experience and it only set you back about $60 bucks. Mark
  16. What is muderball, you ask????? It is "WHEELCHAIR RUGBY" and it's played at international level. I watched Australia and Canada play (on T.V.) last night--and boy! what a game. The last quarter was real bash 'em, crash 'em. Wheels needed replacing on chairs, and players rolling their chairs...and that's while they are strapped into it! They have able-bodied people who run out and pick them up, or change their wheels. I think these were the same teams that went to the Beijing Para Olympics. Well done everyone :clap2:
  17. Did I read somewhere that the 2ndGens have a cigarette lighter power plug??? Or was I halucinating again..... I didn't see any reference to one in the owners manual.... but I'm pretty sure I've run across posts about it... Never mind I found it..... Sorry for the dry run...

  19. ok ..... I've read through a few threads and would like to ask a simple question as to how my 2002 midnight ventures gauge works. At about 175 miles odometer switches to F and starts to count up. Is that when I should switch to reserve ?? also some say to just run it set on reserve all the time ?? So my first question is how is it suppose to work and what works best for my friends riding these bikes ?? Dale ps. I haven't run out of gas yet, but have had it in sputter mode a few times.
  20. with 2 up should I run it in 5th or 4th?
  21. My speedometer stops working after the bike is not run for a week or so. After I run the bike for awhile it begins to work. Also the turn signal cancel won't work or the odometer. The problem has worsen, now I can ride all day and it might jump up once or twice. Any ideas? Thanks
  22. Today I got my '89 VR out on the road for the first time since I bought it back in August. I did notice she's a little stiff in the turns (maybe it's me..or the new tires or the fork brace). Anyways, what's getting me is that my bike is really backfiring (frequently) while I'm cruising at around 25-35 mph at approximately 3-4K RPM. She doesn't backfire while accelerating, while decelerating (using either brake or engine/transmission), or while idling. Even though I adjusted the idle knob and throttle cable before riding, she tends to run up to 2K RPM while stopped. I have cleaned out the carbs completely, have replaced the carb intake boots, the carb diaphragm, spark plugs, and doesn't appear to have any exhaust leaks. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  24. I just bought a 2000 RSV that has been sitting for a couple of years due to the owner was going to fix cosmetic damage to the trunk and bags but never got to it and put it on craigslist and ebay. He has been cranking it and running about once a month but not driving it so we both thought that cleaning the tank and running some Seafoam through it would get it back on the road. Well it will get through 1st and 2nd okay but after that it loads up and won't run. I don't think this is a carb problem since it will idle and rev fine through 1st and 2nd so does anyone know if this is an electircal problem or will I have to take off the carbs and go through them ? Thanks for the help, Tim
  25. Hello everyone This past weekend I installed Kuryakyn's 4710 run turn and brake controller on stock signals and also installed the signal dynamics light bar and now when i ride my radio cuts out and starts to squeal maybe two or three time per song randomly. I payed attention and no certain thing I do causes it.When I got back from my test ride I let my bike sit in the garage and left the radio playing and it wouldn't do it while just sitting there. Any suggestions?????
