  1. Going to build a hitch for my 07rsv new trailer on the way ! Does everyone's trailer set level when hitched to bike and is there any advantage other than appearance for it to do so. Trailer will have 12'' wheels and i just don't want it to look like its doing a nose dive going down the rode I'm a little OCD about these things. Will be installing leveling links before I build the hitch so that should help any comments or pics would be appreciated.
  2. A while back there was a thread about a MP3 player that interfaced with the radio and was controlled by the radio controls. Although I was hesitant because of a lack of info I took advantage of the sale that was going on and ordered one. I installed it today and thought I would try to get some more info out about it. Here is a video I made of it operating. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj3bAjEdPOc]Venture MP3 install - YouTube[/ame] Here are a couple of pictures. http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad166/midnightventure/CIMG1418.jpg http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad166/midnightventure/CIMG1414.jpg Even though I had a cold I couldn't resist going for a ride and trying it out. Rode about 35 miles on some rough paved roads and about a mile on gravel. It worked perfect on the pavement but it did quit and I had to cycle through AUX,FM1,FM2 and back to CD and it took right off were it left off. So far I am satisfied with it but I wish that I had felt better so I could have rode 100 miles. The directions state to load the songs for the first CD directly to the SD card and then create 5 more folders called CD02 through CD06. You can load 99 songs to each folder. Total of 594 songs. Also it says to make sure there are no odd symbols like ')in the titles. I had already gone through and fixed all my titles and ended up with 2 1/2 SD cards full. It plays MP3 and WMA. If you pop one SD card out and put nin another it starts at the same disc and song number it was on before. Long pushes on the switch changes Cds (folders) and quick pushs change songs. It creates CD01 soon as it fires up.
  3. Now if he had a RSV the little dogie coulda rode home in style! http://wimp.com/calfcanal/
  4. I sold my 2006 GL1800 to a guy that flew in from Wichita KS to Atlanta and rode it home. I rode it for 2 yrs and put 24k miles on it and sold it for $700 less than I paid for it. Not a bad deal! I still have the '97 RSTC and I might be looking for a sport touring bike like a Kawi Concours 14 in the future.
  5. I went for a nice long ride today. Had to go to Bancroft and it wasn't supposed to rain so I figured I'd take the bike. I jumped on the 84 ...(Class is still not fixed on the 88) but only after putting on about 6 layers of clothing including the rain suit Then I headed out for my 2 1/2 hour ride in overcast and 6 *C about 9:00 am It was a cool but nice ride. After I took care of neccessary business I rode home about 3:30 in bright sunlight (still only about 12*C or( 54*F) But the leaves were amazing. I rode past some large rock faces, many many lakes, and it was nearly all nice winding (some twisty) country roads. I took about 15 pics (I know the rules) but now I cant' find the cable to connnect my phone to the PC I"ll try again tomorrow afternoon.
  6. I was wondering if anyone new how to get in touch with Pete. Not sure what he goes by on here and not even sure he is on here anymore. He is the guy who rode the new victory at Vogel. If you do I would like to know how Thanks Rick
  7. Like it says about to go on our first ride on the 86 VR. Going with medium in the air ride at first I think. Rode it about 300 miles so far and it is doing good. She rode on the back of my 2001 FZ1 once and did not like it. She has rode some through her life just not with me. Should go good, but my legs are still weak from the ride I got earlier for my birthday. Also wondering about fixing the intercom, Tryed dads and with his intercom it was mono from both sides and put here voice in the center of my brain. I do love her alot though.
  8. So I was at the dealer looking for a part for a friends carb and I kept looking at the sport bike alley. A salesman came up to me and after I told him how fun it would be to have a second toy and Ive always wanted to do a burnout and a wheelie, he brought me the keys and said go have some fun but be careful. I had 5 hours with this thing and it was amazing. Teh truth is I only rode for short 20 minute bursts . I stopped homoe had Sausage and peppers. then rode some more. Its amazing how light that bike is and although the grunt wasnt there , I did find myself hitting 90 on residential streets. And the front brake is so touchy. I remember thinking how I was gonna lock up the front. NOTE TO SELF> " no sport bike for me" END NOTE. I couldnt get the smile off my face but unfortunatly i had to leave teh bike there with a dissapointed salesman.
  9. I kid you not......a local church here in Omaha put up a new sign. I was cracking up as I rode past tonight in 94 degree heat. Satan called! He wants his weather back!
  10. Anyone know who made the ABC "World News" six o'clock news today on their RSV? It looks blue and has passing lamps. Both rider and passenger on bike. News reporter was interviewing someone on the corner when the bike rode by behind them. Don't know when the story was recorded but I thought it was pretty neat. Anyone else see it?
  11. Here She Is! I don't even want to get the tires dirty yet... She's never been rode hard, and never been wet. Well, sooner or later, she's in for a RUDE awakening! http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g158/jbmaynard/DR650/460e860e.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g158/jbmaynard/DR650/157be294.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g158/jbmaynard/DR650/1aa5b199.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g158/jbmaynard/DR650/d5a07ec4.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g158/jbmaynard/DR650/b913d578.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g158/jbmaynard/DR650/928b67f8.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g158/jbmaynard/DR650/b6b313f2.jpg
  12. OK, OK it wasn't the helmets fault.. but does re-enforce why you should always wear it, no matter how short the ride, and should never carry anything in your hands.. We just returned from a trip to the Texas Hill Country with some friends and rode the 3 Sisters and around Bandera/Leakey area. We survived deer, rattlesnakes, llamas, cattle and 100+ degrees, no problem. Then rode up to Fredericksburg and rode up to Enchanted Rock and back on the Willow City Loop. Stopped at a ranch that rents rooms to check it out and had stopped at the office to talk. They had a mini western town and saloon farther down on their property we went to check out. And then a series of bad choices and bad luck ensued... - My wife, who is diligent about wearing her full face helmet at all times, decided to just carry it since it was only a short ride on the property. She threaded her left arm through the face shield. - We end up traveling down there on some dusty red gravel roads and it was a little difficult to navigate. - Then, in the quest for shade from the heat, I went in the grass to park under a tree. There was un-apparently a low spot they had filled in with red gravel about 6" deep and I lost control of the bike and it fell on its left side - while at almost a dead stop. We both fell off of course but my wife ended up in great pain. Everyone else saw what happened and thought the fall was insignificant and maybe she bruised a rib. I had only slight gravel rash on left hand. She was a tough cookie and made the ride back to Fredericksburg but I could hear her wince when we hit the cattle guards on this old farm road so I took it fairly slow. Back at the hotel she tried to lay there with ice but I finally convinced her to go to the hospital. The ER Dr also rode and after describing the situation felt bruised ribs was likely all that she had but took X-Rays anyhow. To his and OUR surprise she had broken two ribs and punctured her lung and had partial lung collapse. They came very close to installing a tube through her side to drain the air in her chest cavity (pneumothorax), but decided to admit her and see if it would heal itself. We stayed 2 nights in the hospital and after several X-Rays and CATscan they decided it was stable and healing itself. We have followup appts Monday at home. She will be on pain meds for a few weeks for sure. So what should have been a fairly uneventful fall off the bike, ended up being pretty serious because what we determined is she had fallen on her helmet and it broke her ribs. she did not break her fall with her hand at all because she was holding her helmet. Of course I also should have not driven where I didn't know the ground, or lost control of the bike, and should have let her off on the road... so I will always feel that guilt. The bike is a bit heavy for my 160lbs and I do need to get the front lowered but not sure if that would have helped in that much loose gravel. Here are some other cautions for that area.. -Another Dr said that all of the red granite gravel roads in that area are real slick with a powdered dust due to the extreme drought (he fell off his bike in his own driveway at the gate). -And the deer are out on the roads a lot looking for food and water. -And Hwy 16 from Bandera to Fredericksburg and beyond has a lot of fresh gravel and asphalt going down FYI, if you have to go to a Hospital in that area, Hill Country Memorial is probably the nicest folks and best treatment we have ever seen. Feelin' like a heel but I share my embarrament in hopes it prevents a similar occurrence with anyone else. Keith
  13. On our way back home from a Mississippi river ride a week ago, we rode in moderate rain for 4 hours. I pressure washed the junk off of it today and went for a ride. After about 10 minutes of riding in town , something in the front started to chirp like a bird. Rode about 10 miles ate lunch and went back home. I sprayed some WD40 on the front axle and no more chirp. I can't see where that should have done anything. Now it kinda bothers me. I'm wondering if it's something I need to be worried about? Thanks for the help, Bwhite 2000 RSV
  14. well i am getting ready to leave for Freebirds MD i will hit the rode at 10:30 am so i should start seeing some of you guys on the rode or at Dons tonight. and safe travels:cool10:
  15. Got back from Tail of the Dragon at Deal's Gap, NC. Spent 3 days down there riding in the mountain twisties with my Kumho on the rear and Perelli MT 66 on the front. It was a 5.5 hr ride to get there and rode all day to get back. I can honestly say I had no problem with the CT at all on the trip. I don't know how it would have handled with a MC tire on the rear, but I do know I had no problems with the CT. The mountains were absolutely beautiful. I plan on making this a yearly trip. Glenn
  16. Here is a ride I went on April 8 2011. We rode out 44 east to 9 over to Greenfield Indiana. Then U.S. 40 to Richmond. We stayed the nite and rode in the Project 9/11 ride. Here the Friday ride. [ame=http://vimeo.com/22745184]April 8 2011 Friday Ride To Richmand Indiana. on Vimeo[/ame]
  17. THis has been a long winter and I am getting more than a little bit stir crazy so I cant be held resonsible for my thoughts...lol I think we should start up a list and add everyone to it that makes a comment about how nice and warm it is, and bugs us about the cold and ice, and that they rode, blah, blah, blah .......and then put that list in a safe place until the really hot weather hits them in August when they dont want to ride and we should all send them pictures and notes reminding of all the fun we are having where we are. Ok, now who wants to be first on my list......... Brian
  18. Sling and Peggy rode over from Augusta this afternoon and the guys played the dulcimer! And Tom rode down from Charlotte! Sleeperhawk and Rick did a carb tune on Tom's bike - the guys just can't keep their hands off the bike! It was great to meet Tom and look forward to meeting his wife Amy next weekend in Greenville! Just a few pictures!!! Trying not to wear you guys out with a lot of pictures this year! Can't guarantee what will happen next weekend though!
  19. Just a quick shout to those following the travels of our own Wes 0778. I met him in Dayton TX and rode with him back to our house, as he was coming from Sulphur LA after spending the night with BoomerCPO. Walt gets the Brass Cahonies award as he rode through some lousy weather heading West. The temperature just kept dropping and by the time we got to our house it was 37 degrees and windy as hell the whole time. I was frozen from riding the 80 miles there and back, and you all know how well insulated I am
  20. I've never seen this question ever asked. But as I look and everyones US & Canadian States Covered. Only one question came to mind. Where they states you rode the motorcycle too, Or are they states you have visited? By Flying there?
  21. I have the opportunity to purchase this 86 VR for $500. It was side swiped by a cager at an interection. The rider luckly did not receive any injuries and the bike did not go down. The front left fairing got hit and also took out the left side bag. He rode it that way for a while until he rode over something on the way to work. When his work day was done he found a large puddle of oil under the oil pan. So he figured what ever he rode over cracked the oil pan. It does not have rear fender and the crome below the left side bages. It is a VR and he said that the Cassette(probably works), Radio, CB, CASE, Electronic Cruise Control all work good. The Cruise Control does loose some and so he had to use the throttle to bring it backup to speed. He said that it ran great up to the day of the oil incident. It has about 85K miles. I have parts that I could use immediately, trailer hitch, passenger arm rest. Otherwise I think it would make a good parts VR for my 89. Oh the color is definately does not match mine. I recently purchased my 89 VR in June and so I'm just a rookie with the VR. I am willing and capabile of fixing things. Of course I will need my wife's support on this purchase. I was thinking that I could use the parts I mentioned then possible pick up the other parts and list it on Craigs list this spring and get my investment back. Maybe everyone could give an estimate of the value of the VR with all the issues repaired. Your thoughs would be appreciated. I will attach as many pictures as I can.
  22. Well what a great day in Central Illinois. 4th of November and it wa 62 degrees. Figured we don't get many of these so jump on The RSV and took a ride. Ended up riding 120 miles basically just around in a circle. Rode the country roads and just enjoyed the day. I really hate the thought of putting the bike away but it won't be long now.
  23. Being in customer service, I was chatting it up w/ a guy that called in. He asked about hobbies so I mentioned motorcycles. He said he has been riding for 40 yrs, he asked what I rode and he started saying how the '95 Venture Aspencade has stator problems from what he heard. After questioning him on it he said, oh I mean '85 Venture Aspencade. Tried to correct him on it, but to no avail didn't work so I just let him think what he wanted to. Didn't get a chance to ask what he rode.
  24. Got up this morning for a 300 mile ride & for the first time ever the bike wouldn't stay running. It started but just barely would spit & sputter enough to stay running for 20 seconds or so. If I touched the throttle or took it off full choke it died. At least 2 cylinders were firing as I had exhaust out of both pipes but was just barely chugging. Last rode it a week ago & ran fine. So then I dumped some Seafoam & new gas in. After many more tries I was just about to give up the day thinking maybe I had some bad plugs, then on about the 30th start, it chugged for about 5 seconds, then POP (an audible pop or maybe backfire), but immediately it was idling normal. Shut if off & it fired right back up. Rode all day, many stops, no further problems. Any idea what was stuck, fouled, etc? I'm thinking I should check or fix something, but what? I'd like to know so if it ever happens while 1000 miles from home I'll have a clue.
  25. Very interesting bike....
