1. OK folks, a couple of worry wart questions from the dirvers seat: I moved my TCI last weekend. The job was the expected PITA but its done now. I took the bike for its first ride to work since the relocate today. I find that the original problem, a misfire under load at 3k rpm's and above was still there but less frequent than I was used to before. The problem always did seem to be temperature related. It was much more apparent on cool mornings than warm afternoons. Today, the engine was rock solid when I set off from home but as she warmed up there was a short period where she would mis fire and then she seemed to get through it and ran flawlessly again. It was as though there was a troublesome tempreature band she went into and then out of as she warmed up. I have yet to open this TCI but I am prepared to do so if necessary. I suspect that I'll find an iffy solder joint somewhere inside that is sensitive to thermal expansion. Meanwhile I am trying to characterize the fault and the effects that the TCI move has had on the situation. While riding, I was wondering / worrying about the reasoning for Yam's engineers to put the TCI where they did. Do we know anything about their original thinking? Does the TCI actually require some cooling from the air flow in its stock location? If so am I damaging it by running it up top? What sort of miles have folks here got running bikes with relocated TCI's ? Is there any indication that the TCI's are more prone to fail after a relocation? Thanks, Brian H.
2. I am in the process of buying a house and may need to sell my 84 Vr in very good condition. It has 34000 original miles and has lots of extras like the original exhaust, spare saddle bag parts, new in the bag clutch master and slave rebuild kits I ride the bike every day I put Iridium plugs plus new wires and caps,Tires are about 75% everything works and it has an aftermarket cd payer. If you know anyone interested I only want 1800 for everything,it is in Fort Pierce Fl, pm me and I will give the specifics. TOM
3. I finished my Garmin install and took some time to upgrade my rear lighting. I did the L.E.D. upgrade to my trunk lights last year. They work great but tend to wash out in full sunlight. I liked the undermount bar that many folks are installing on the 2nd Generation bikes. So, how to get that 15" bar under my trunk? The answer, remove the helmet locks and put an aluminum bar in their place. I countersunk places for the original screws and then mounted the light bar over top of them. On the ends of the aluminum bar I reinstalled the helmet locks. Tapped all of the holes and applied some blue locktite. Now, I have a bright running/brake light unit just above the tail light. It looks like it blocks the original unit, but I can remove the lens to change the bulbs with the bar in place. JB
4. I found a great deal on a 2003 Kawasaki Nomad 1500FI and it came with a Baxley single bike trailer for under $7000 from the original owner. The bike only has 3,300 miles. Let the riding begin!
5. I read this a little while ago and thought some folks might enjoy it. I thought it was really cute. Little patriotic squirrel. I clicked on the link to the original story because I had to just see if there was a pic and there was. http://www.thetimesherald.com/article/20090530/NEWS01/905300301&referrer=FRONTPAGECAROUSEL Margaret
6. I have an 86 Venture and am having some cruise control problems. As long as I set it below 60 mph it works fine but when I go over 70 it will gradually gain speed and all at once let off the accelerator until it returns to the original setting then reingauge. Has anyone had this problem before? I have a cousin that has the same problem with his which is a 90 model I think. Thank you,
7. Hi, I have two sets of forks for my 84 xvz12, both sets have progressive springs in them. One pair came with the bike at 20,000 miles and the other I bought on ebay because I couldn't get any life out of my fork seals on the originals. I surmised that rough spots on the forks were tearing up the seals even though I had done my best to smooth them out with judicious use of a fine stone and lots of oil. I wish I had tried replacing the bushings too but never did that. All in all I'd say that the ebay set are in better shape and do have new bushings, but the original set are not too bad except for the fork seal issue. With the original set the bike rides true and steady. With the replacement set, I get a wobble if I take my hands off the bars. No wobble is apparent till I take my hands off the bars and the bike rides well so long as there are hands on. I don't understand how substituting forks can cause this sort of thing. I don't have any fancy instrumentation to check but the troublesome forks don't look bent or deformed in any way and as I say they are in marginally better shape than the original pair of forks. Any one have any suggestions or insights into how to trouble shoot this ? Thanks, Brian H.
8. Just in case anyone is interested, Black Owl is back. Got really tired of not getting any responses to my requests as Cerberus, so will see if going back to my original screen name makes any difference. http://www.postsmile.com/img/summer/95.gif
9. I have 2006 Midnight Venture with a broken CB Antenna, is there anywhere I can get a replacement antenna besides the dealer, they want $180.00 for a replacement. I don't use the CB, however I may want to sell the bike, and the original equipment antenna would be needed. Thanks
10. I have a nice 84 VR with only 33000 original miles that I have taken from mass to Florida via Skyline Drive and the BlueRidge parkway and it has a nice quiet exhaust exept it keeps coming loose. I found someone selling an original Yamaha replacement slip on mufflers for the VR and Vmax that were used and he said they were rich in sound and had a nice rumble. Well they work AWSOME but I can no longer listen to my radio but my water temp is alot cooler and the pickup is awsome. This without rejetting I love the sound and accelleration but I don't know if the people next to me will like me. I have had many bikes and this is the first that an exhaust has made a big difference. So should I put the old ones on and keep peace or ride like hell. TOM
11. I recently bought a 06 RSV that the previous owner had installed a set of Python slip ons. They sound great but too loud for my taste, any ideas what I might could install that would be close to the sound of the original pipes? Thanks in advance and by the way,I am new to the site and really enjoy reading everyone posts.

Extra Key

I was wondering if it's a good idea to hide an extra key on the bike somewhere? How many of you do this now? It sure would come in handy if you lost the original while you were out somewhere. Thanks
13. I called a local dealer asking how one goes about transferring the warranty from the original owner to me. He said you have to do that thru the original selling dealer. Is this true...???
14. I just know you guys and gals will understand. My Kawi has 150/80 x 16 rear and 130/90 x16 in the front. They are tube type since I have spoke wheels. Where oh where would a fellow find car tires to fit this. I am especially interested since my front tire needs replacing (35000km) original tire and I am looking at mounting a sidecar. I run a metz on the back since the oem needed replacement at around 28000km. Thanks for the input:think:
15. A few days ago I stopped at a Yamaha dealer and was talking to a young salesman about Ventures, and repairing damages to the fairing etc. He said the paint codes (and maybe even the paint) were available from Yamaha and you should be able to paint and get a match. Is this true? Can you actually match up to the original color or do you basically have to repaint the entire fairing if you have some damage from a drop etc? Has anyone tried this? I am looking at a bike that has some scratches and minor damage and would like to restore it to original condition. Thanks.
16. 1st pics of the VBoost mounted on motor, concerned about air box and mounting. This setup increases top of carb heighth 1" above original. Makes ya wanna go----hmmmmmm. Dan Try this a gain
17. '87 I know it all depends on riding habits but I have 58K miles on the bike with original clutch. Do you all have more miles with original clutch, I'm very easy on it. to give you an idea, I have two cars with 300K miles on their original clutches. I was bogging a bit in 5th gear and accelerated and I thought I heard the engine rev a bit. I didn't reinact it to see what would happen so I'm not sure if I sensed something that wasn't there.
18. About 2 years ago, I installed a used fuel pump I bought on E-Bay. It worked just fine, so I left it installed on the 89. Was at about 47K at the time. So: Today, after carrying the original around in the Bags as a spare, I decided to re-install the original pump. ( Just to make sure it was working ) Wa La !!! Fuse Blew !!! It don't work. Opened it up, Pressure Switch OK, Pump section OK ( the bottom part ) . But found Low Resistance thru the Main Coil. About 1.3 ohms. The good one reads about 2.5 ohms ???? Totally at a loss to explain this, as the darn thing was working just fine 2 years ago when I removed it, and wrapped it up in a bag to carry as a spare. ???
19. Went to the local dealer to cancel an order today and my friend that works the parts counter told me to hang on while he finished a phone call. After he hangs up, he heads "out back" and returns with an armful of Ventureline goodies. Says they found 'em while doing inventory or something. All NOS in original packaging. Picked up the batch for a shade over 100 bucks....no extra charge for the dust. Once in awhile it pays to shop locally. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u257/Dexx-gs/DSCF1064.jpg
20. I think I have the original headlight in my bike. I think it says Kyoti and it does say Made In Japan. When I look Kyoti up on the Internet, I see tractors! Would I benefit from replacing this headlight with something newer? lol. It is dim for sure!
21. My new plug wires arrived today...nice and yellow! However, my old plug wires have at least 1 to 3 layers of protective corraggated(sp?) plastic over them. Similar to trailer or truck wiring. It is usually split lengthwise, but this is not. Is this necessary or even original? If I use this again, there was no use in ordering yellow wires because they will all be covered up. Hope somebody replies soon so I can get back to installing wires LOL. Thanks.
22. anyone know where one can buy aerosol spray paint or maybe quarts to use in spray gun for original color 2nd gen RSV?
23. I am looking for the original THROTTLE ROCKER, it appears that it was discontinued and replace by THROTTLE ROCKER II with the Velcro strip. I was hopping some one my have NOS of it. I rather have the Throttle Rocker than the Cramp Buster, I think it is more ergonomically correct.
24. Have seen that they have been released to the market. They are said to have a bit different shape and a flip down sun visor. Has anyone bought one or tried one out? It is about time to replace the helmet I bought with my 05 (an original SYMAX) and am considering it as the replacement. Here is the url of anyone wants to go to the HJC website http://www.hjchelmets.com/
