  1. Thanks.. Yes I understand the idea of the Ball and spring working with the indent. It's funny because with all the writing on the end of the Hex... it doesn't really indicate what direction it needs to be in for Draining and Riding. You can turn teh Hex clockwise or counterclockwise all day long so how do you know which indent is for closed unless you had this plug out and saw the holes in it? When I bought the bike ( years ago) and changed the coolant I assumed the previous owner did it right so when I drained it, I rotated to teh next indent, then after filling I put it back to the next indent ( the words "ON/OFF are almost upside down). Off to make a purchase
  2. Didi you have issues with this Ball and Spring? like it falling out?
  3. Whew!! OK it is fairly common. I spent a lot of time on THE VENTURERS website until they decided they wanted mandatory money and I never heard of this. Take the screw out, pull the Hex shaped plug out, replace 'O' ring and reinstall, That easy? Is that Link for the 'O' ring PAYPAL friendly??
  4. OK, I've owned this 1st generation VR for about 15 years. This never happened before. Bike was in the garage for the winter, Dropped it off the center stand Saturday to take it out of the garage. Anti Freeze puddle in the front Valace. Radiator is Full but the resevoir is low. I take some plastic off to look at the coolant plumbing. Everything is dry with no signs of leakage except That Petcock thing just under the radiator where the lower radiator hose meets some steel tubes. There is wetness there. The only thing I can figure is the very cold winter we had contracted that 'O' ring enough to create some seepage. I dried it up and filled the reservoir, and ran teh bike with no leaks.
  5. I think the times it happened I was leaving a traffic light...not that hard though. I'll have to pay attention to the commonalities to the scenario. I think both times I was down shifting to a red light then accelerated up because the light turned green before I got there. I guess that would splash the oil around more then normal. Thanks
  6. I had the bike for over 12 years.. I just did the oil 1000miles ago, the site glass level is happy happy. Thanks for the info... I didn't know it was a Level indicator. I thought it was pressure. That makes me feel better.
  7. '87 with 60K miles. not all the time but 2 times in the past three weeks, I will start off my first run of the day and about 3 miles into it, the Oil indicator comes on. It lasts about 15 seconds. Just long enough to get scared then it goes out. After that.. nothing. I can rev the engine, let it idle down upshift, downshift and the engine is happy. The oil was changed about 1000 miles ago so it's not like i have molasses in the pan. Has anyone seen this? Can I pull the oil sensor and clean it? Any thoughts? That's a false reading I can live without.
  8. I'm very jealous. That makes the tire change a very short day. I have harbor Freight motorcycle tire changer but I still fight with it. It holds the rims great but the center bar and removal/install bar doesn't work like they pretend it does.( Laundry detergent is a great Lube for tire mounting) Who's happy with their spoons and where did they get them? I see long ones and short ones and bent ones and straight ones...which work well for our Rims? Thanks
  9. You don't like the Metzler 880's?
  10. Good to know. Yeah, the wet clutches seem to last forever it seems. I wonder if just replacing the 'Bird cage' would solve it. Odd you say you just replaced the discs and funrider just replaced the Pressure plate ( birdcage). Hmmmm. At least I know I'm due to do something. I bought the bike 13+ years ago with under 4K on it. so The P.O. didn't have time to screw with it.
  11. You still have to pull th elowers off...why not just replace the seal th ecorrect way? Oh for the original poster. You will need a large Allen key or a metric bolt to take the Top off to get to the Springs. You can do new seals with the forks on the bike.
  12. '87 I know it all depends on riding habits but I have 58K miles on the bike with original clutch. Do you all have more miles with original clutch, I'm very easy on it. to give you an idea, I have two cars with 300K miles on their original clutches. I was bogging a bit in 5th gear and accelerated and I thought I heard the engine rev a bit. I didn't reinact it to see what would happen so I'm not sure if I sensed something that wasn't there.
  13. Does anyone know of a Website that shows specifically that Parking on a 45 degree angle or with rear tire touching curb is the "proper" way to park? A local Township by me just started ticketing motorcycles that do not park parallel with the parking lines AND ticket bikes that share a parking spot. They claim the Metered Parking is to prevent people from parking all day and to give other people a chance to get into the town yet they ticket Bikes that share parking spots ( greedy town that wants the revenue). They just put in Meters in this Township and they are really busting chops. I'd love to send them a link that shows and explains the reasoning behind parking bikes as most of us do.
  14. I was going to give that a shot...Adding some spacers. I'll fight down the Cap and see if it helps. This dopey little bike is a blast. I have to get back to trying to resolve the front end. It's scary
  15. Do the antenna look the same as the 1st Gen bikes. This is a screw on replacement. couldn't look any more like Stock http://sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=AO%2DGL12%2DANT&cat=146 You can throw the Cable away, the thread size was the same.
