OK folks I just picked up Harley touring mufflers off e-bay. Now I have read about the modification 1-4. These are still original I do not know what year bike they came off of, but the left one has a catalyst in it. What now? How can I modify this one compare to the other side? Should I install them the way they are now and try first? Can they be modified? Thanks.

I don't know if this has been covered before or not, so I'm asking. When you install RK mufflers on a Venture has anyone noticed that at the joint there is a exhaust leak?I put high temp silicone on the joint and used new RK clamps. The left side seems worst then the right side.I took them off several times and moved the clamp to different positions.Right now the bolt on the clamp is at the bottom and is covering the slits of the muffler at the top and bottom. Each time the mufflers were removed new high temp silicone was applied. Is this problem something that has to lived with or does anyone have a solution?

Me and the wife went on a 250 mile lunch run today. We wanted Texas Roadhouse badly but the one in Orange Park is usually crowded. We took 90 all the way to Lake City where TRH is rarely packed and we had a great lunch. Getting back up on 75 then I-10, we were running about 80. As I hit Jax and got on I 295, I felt fatigued. So did Jean and she was complaining about a headache. It hit us that the Road King mufflers, which are drilled out, was invading my space and seemed louder than ever. Now, I love the way they sound in local driving, but at highway speeds, it is now grating on me. So, I just might have to go back and install the stock mufflers for long highway trips. And you thought you had tough decision to make in your life, huh?

Hello all, this is my first attempt at a post. Been reading and observing for two or three months now and would like to say thanks for all the information members share on this sight. I've read the harley r/k mufflers will fit rsv, I have a neighbor that has a set of harley electra glide mufflers for sale cheap. Will these fit a 07 rsv? Thanks Scott from Il

I have a set of Ultra Classic mufflers and I am going to drill the baffles using a 1 1/4 hole saw. After I drill thru the front or rear baffle plate does that completely disconnect them or will I have to twist and shake it to break it loose from a tack weld farther in the muffler? I have read all the posts I could find and I know the procedure except for this. AL

I recently have purchased R/K mufflers and after asking some questions on this site and getting some great feedback I decided to put them on the bike to listen to how they sound. They are a much deeper tone than the stock mufflers however they are also quieter than the stock because the stock ones have had work done to them. I love the deep exhaust note that I get with the R/K mufflers but would like them to be much louder. Is there a way to remove some baffles without hurting the cans. As of now you can look down through the center of the mufflers with about a 1 to 1-1/2 inch hole straight through. However (what I am assuming are baffles) are around the hole and deadening the sound. Has anyone ever removed some or most of these successfully or will I create problems in the pipes or on the bike from this??? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Big Mike

Hi Guys and Gals, I have recently purchased some R/K mufflers. They look almost like the Ventures. However, although I have seen several people talking about modifying them, i'm not quite sure what they mean about stage 1,2,3,&4 modifications. I do better with pictures than words. On the mufflers I got, I am able to look directly through the center and see what is on the other side. There are baffles in them that I can see, but I can still look through the center of them. My question is how do I know what stage they are, and what can I do to modify them for more sound. Thanks, Big Mike:15_8_211[1]:

Has anyone not drilled RK newer mufflers with the cat. converter? Is it necessary to drill the cat. converter?

As mentioned in the subject line.... My nice chrome mufflers on my 84 Venture got extremely hot awhile back and the chrome got a blue tint to it. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how do you get the blue off the chrome and restore it to the bright chrome finish?

I ran across this on YouTube....see if you can hear the chirp just before he takes off. Of course, the Samson mufflers drown it out quickly. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WI4WTOkY0Y4]YouTube - Yamaha Royal Star Venture[/ame]

Mufflers, Collectors and pipes...oh my!
Guest posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My collector seems to have a leak and everytime I look into getting new mufflers I only find "slip on pipes". Forgive my ignorance...but what exactly is the "slip ons" does that mean it slips over the pipes? Can we purchase a new collector or new pipes from anywhere? That is what seems to be rusted, near the middle to the front of my bike. The back looks great. A couple of you on previous post mentionned "Marks custom exhaust crossover pipes" and the "Marks collector". Are these new? I googled and could not find. Have a web site to refer me to? Thanks for the help! -
I know that the California bikes have more pollution control but are the mufflers the same as those on Ventures in other states? I think they are but was just wondering for sure.

There are many reasons I like this site besides just the great people that are here. Although that is the #1 reason. But lets look at a few more. On this site I found out that modifying a Road King muffler would give me a throatier sounding exhaust. By the way mufflers were free. On this site I found out which clamp would make my new mufflers look like factory replacements, along with part numbers. On this site I found detailed instructions on how to modify the mufflers and even diagrams on how to build the mounts. I modified my mounts a little but they worked perfect. On this site I found directions on how to remove the front fairing to grease the connectors and prevent problems. While the fairing is apart I found out how to wire in some aux lines for my MP3 player and GPS including part numbers, again on this site. Now while I had the bike apart I was also able to correct the one problem I see with my RSV. It has WAY to much chrome on it for my liking so that had to go. Headlight bezel, windshield trim, front fork protectors, front and rear blinkers, rear tail light bezel and license plate bracket, front and rear fender trim and the carriage for the trunk and side bags were all blacked out. The motor area being dechromed is next. So here is my slightly darker black cherry RSV with the RK mufflers and clamps and all the wiring for the MP# and GPS. Thanks for all the great info I've found, and will continue to find and pass along in the future.

It looks like I amy win an auction for a set of 2004 RK Mufflers. I have a couple of questions. 1. Do the 2004's have a catalytic converter? 2. Whe sells the bracket for adapting these mufflers to the RSV? Thanks

I put the drilled ultra classic mufflers on my bike last night and was a little bit disappointed. They are a little deaper but still too quiet. I'm used to the Cobras on my Shadow. I don't think my wife will let me spend $400 on a set of Samsons or Bubs but what about Rolling hunder mufflers? They are only $200 shipped. Anyone have these on their 2nd gen? I heard a sound clip but its hard to tell much from it. http://www.rollingthunderpipes.com/products.htm

I was recently given a set of mufflers that are suppose to be off a 2006 Road King but the guy that gave them to me said they did not have catalytic converters in them. The part numbers are 65538-95 and 65539-95 and say they make 80db on a FLT 1340/1400. When I run the part numbers through google it says they are for a FLT just like on the mufflers which is a Tour Glide. The Road king is a FLHT. Also if they are the right part numbers how do I tell what year they are off of and whether they have the catalytic converters in them? Thanks for any help.

I just installed the Khrome Werks slip on mufflers on my '05 Venture and am quite happy with the sound. The only thing that concerns me is that when shifting into second or third gear on acceleration there is a "pop" if the revs are taken up a bit too high. Will this cause any problems? If so, what can I do about it?

Besides the modified Road King mufflers, what is a good slip on for the RSV. I think I have it narrowed down between Samson Slash cuts or Baron exhaust. One style of the Baron exhaust... looking at the back of the bike you would see two pipes under each saddle bag. As with anything they are a little pricey, especially when you add the exhaust tips. If anyone uses these or is familiar with them, let me know. Thanks
