  1. I have a 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic that i would like to mount hard saddle bags on. I am wondering if my current mounts and supports will be fine to mount say tour deluxe or venture bags on. I currently have soft leather bags but like i said would like to go to hard bags and possibly a trunk, again maybe a venture trunk. Just curious if anyone has attempted this and what modifications if any were required. any info would be great!
  2. Saw this today - thought I'd pass it on for those looking for a camera to mount on their cycle: http://www.1saleaday.com/
  3. I have an 84 VR, and am wondering how many had the same mirror base. If enough people were interested, I am looking to have the base moulded, so I can mount any mirror. If you read this and are interested, can you spread the word (this could be cost effective)
  4. I managed to break the antenna on my '86 VR today right at the CB load (wide part). Anyone have the entire antenna shaft where it screws into the mount that they would part with for a reasonable amount? Thanks for your help.
  5. For those of you putting the solid motor mounts in the 1st gens, I have encountered a minor issue with them. The solid mounts are interfering with the upper spacer that goes between them. The solid mounts are the exact same length as the stock rubber ones. They have a 1.10" dia. shoulder that fits through the mounting boss on the block. This 1.10" dia on the solid mounts is the same dia. to the end of the mount. This differs from the stock mounts. The stock set has another diameter reduction to .58" at .23" from small end. A comparison of the two mounts is shown in the 4th picture. On the upper front mount this smaller diameter is used to capture the Spacer, Engine Mount (2H7-15336-00-00, located in crankcase section of fiche). There is a welded on collar on each end of this spacer that fits over the small end of the stock mount. Shown in last picture. I really don't don't see a structural purpose for these two collars, so the solution seems to be to grind them back to allow the spacer to fit in between the new solid mounts. I think the spacer does perform a function by maintaining the distance between the two mounts, and not allowing the long bolt that passes through both mounts to pull the motor mount ears inward. Omitting this spacer could lead to one of the motor mount ears snapping when the frame is under stress. The other four mounts are fine as far as I can tell at this point. The block did require a very thorough cleaning to allow the solid mounts to be inserted. I used a dremel with a sanding drum on it to clean. This is a view of the upper mounts and the long bolt in place. The spacer rod is not installed yet in this picture. This is a view of the stock upper mounts with the spacer in place. Stock mount with spacer shown over small diameter. Spacer shown with solid mounts in block to illustrate length issue. View of solid mount next to stock MKII mount. MKI mounts differ slightly in that there is ribbing around the larger diameter rubber portion. View of spacer next to stock MKII mount. The welded on collar on the spacer is what can be ground down to allow use of spacer. Gary
  6. Well after a lot of tough decision making, my beautiful '07 RSV is now somone else's ride. The GL 1800 is a lot more comfortable (for me) with it's lower center of gravity. I feel much more confident on it, 'specially when riding two up. Seat height is a little shorter also, and I can put my feet flat on the ground. Here is my problem. I installed a Kuryakyn heel-toe shifter and it included a shiny chrome plated left foot peg mount (bracket). The bike still has a dull grey OEM mount on the right side. I tried to buy just the right side mount, but the customer rep at Kury said no way, only way to get one is to buy their kit that has both left and right mounts, and use just the one. I tried to convince them that they should either put one in the heel-toe shifter kit or at least have one available to purchase seperately, but the answer was "it is what it is". Any suggestions? Yeh,I know, pull it off and get it plated. Other than that?-?-?-?
  7. just received my new front and rear Venom X tires - the rear appears to have small cracks all around it (or maybe these are just molding marks?) - the date code is 4310, so they are fairly new? i've attached a pic - for those who have had this problem would you confirm that my tire needs to go back for replacement or should i mount it? TIA......
  8. I was on Adventure Rider (ADVRider) and came across this post, where a fellah sells LED spot/flood lights. (Vendor Link) They seem very bright and he has run them on his off road bike, so they would seem durable. I'm mulling over installing them off the front brake mount, to be on only when I have high beams on. Or maybe the 10w on all the time, and the 24w with the high beam. The photos through page 2 on ADVRider are pretty impressive. The other place I've wanted to mount aux lights are on the mirrors, but I am not sure how to do that. Maybe some PIAA HIDs would go there... or these. Just another option for y'all. Dave
  9. ok so I had an atnenna brake on my 91 vr. So I went to the local radio shack and bought a twist on pl 259 coax connector. then a trip to the local truck stop where I purchased a 3 ftK40 antena, stud mount , and 90 degree pl-259 adaptor. This project took more timedeciding what antenna to buy than it did to do. First I cut the coax as close to the original antenna as possible and then screwd on the conector. Then installed the stud mount and 90 degree adaptor and screwed the coax back on. Already had the radio tuned to a channel that Ive never been able to pick up and waalaaa it picked up. Now for the ?? Will the stock cb handle 2 antennas? I am debating adding a splitter inline and getting 2 new coax cables to hook up 2 antenna instead of one. I just dont want to burn up the unit. And of course either way Ill be getting the swr set as soon as possible. David
  10. I have a RAM mount for a Garmin Nuvi 200 series GPS. If anyone would like it, just PM me. I went up to a 1300 and it takes a different mount. Note, this is only for the piece that hods the GPS...
  11. This site is AWESOME and has really helped me out a lot! Just thought that I would share how I mounted my GPS to my '86 scoot. I had tried mounting to the handle bars but found it vibrated more that I liked, was not well protected by the windshield & was too far out of my line of sight to feel safe. After a lot of thought I figured out that I could mount it to my fork because it is very stable & already has threads. It also positions the GPS in a good line of sight & is well protected by the windscreen. I had access to a small lathe so I made the custom spacer & bought the aluminum RAM mount components. See pics for more detail. I really like it and have made one for a friend that has an '84 venture.
  12. I am about to purchase some Dunlop Elite IIIs. This tire comes in a radial I've heard. Is this okay to mount on the 2nd Gen. Venture? What are the pros and cons? Thanks.
  13. I'm am wanting to install a CB on the 83 Venture I just bought. I have all the parts and cables but I need the upper right side fairing piece for an 86VR where the CB and Class controllers mount. It has the hinged access for the overflow bottle. If anyone has one available I sure would like to buy it. You can contact me at ama-dist45@comcast.net The other option would be to mount it in the original place for an 83 but I can't find any pictures for the location. Happy trails, Barlow
  14. This seller is currently showing free shipping to Canada .... at least for this RAM mount if anyone is interested. 15. I thought this year I would save some $ and purchase a tire on line only to find out the local yamaha dealer won't mount it. The shop foreman said they weren't allowed to (chain of something to do with tires). Is this bs or is there some truth in this?
  16. Hey folks.... I was wondering... when you wired your bike for the trailer... what did you do with the connector?? Is there a way to mount it to the hitch?? not sure what to do with it. The trailer I bought has a 5-pin round connector...... your thoughts???
  17. I'm contemplating dumping my Sirius radio in favour of an mp3 player. I know nothing about these things as I've never had one so am looking for a little guidance. What do ya'll use? Does it plug into the aux port on the scoot? How do you keep it charged up? How did you mount it on your scoot? How much did it cost? Any other info you can provide? ...and I am cheap so don't want to give up my arm and leg for one. Thanks
  18. Thought you guys might lke to see this . . . I needed some cargo space that would accommodate my lap top & case (just a bit too big to fit into either of my hard bags) as well as a few other work items. So, I did some surfing and purchased an after market case and then fabicated a bracket to mount it over my rear fender. Check out the attached photos. - Norm. NOTE: I ride solo as my wife has her own ride.
  19. Planning on putting a 12" flag pole and 6x9" flag on my RSV. Was wondering a couple things : 1) saddle bag trim rail diameter - I picked up a pole and adapter at the bike show but the 1/2" mount doesn't fit the rails (Show Chrome). 1/2" mount seems to be common but think the rails are 3/4". Anyone confirm what size they used? Suggestions on getting just the 3/4" mount or do I have to buy another flag pole? 2) for maintenance.... better to mount the flag on the left or right side of the bike? Will mount on the back end of the rails so it doesn't interfere with the saddle bag lids. Didn't want to mount the pole on a side that would interfere with maintenance (eg tire change, eventual rear shock change) Thanks in advance.
  20. Any suggestions where to mount a mini volt meter on an 89 VR. Protected from rain preferred. Size of mounting hole is M4.3cm×2.3cm(1.7" x 0.9").
  21. If I remember correctly this ignition tach/temp guage mount was built by a local Star rider who has passed away. I'd heard of them, but had never seen one. I kinda like it. Anyone have a different story on the thing. These pics are the only I've ever seen. I tried to buy this set but the bike seller said no way Jose'....
