  1. I am a little confused now after my 400 plus mile trip to the NC mtns Monday and Tuesday. :confused07: I checked gas mileage at every stop and it clocked it at 43-45 each time. I have read on here that this mileage is OK. The confusing part is, I feel it is running rough as all get out. I have plans to find someone to assist with a carb sync. Reasons: 1) A little sluggish since I installed baffles and repacked the Bag Slash pipes. 2) Lots of popping with deceleration. Now I am not sure it is a sync problem. Popping is annoying. Any comments.
  2. i was riding saturday, finally got some good weather.i stopped by the bike shop in my town,i was curious about gas mileage on my 83 venture.i have been reading post about how many miles that riders get on a tank of gas.it varies from 35-47 or so.i told the guy about it he laughed at me.he said the only way those bikes can get that kind of mileage if they pushed them.he said that a bike has to be 250 cc or smaller to get that kind of mileage. he said that i was looking at about 20-25. so whats the deal? so who is blowing smoke? i guess i do about 140 or so
  3. I'm close to making a deal on a slightly used '09 Tahoe LTZ with the 6.2L (395 HP) engine and 6 speed transmission. I've currently got an '03 Tahoe with the 5.3 and I am used to poor mileage. Will the 6.2 mileage be much less? When I test drove it I checked the trip meter for average MPG and it was a bit higher than the average on my '03. The LTZ is a nice package with lots of buttons. Are there any other issues I should be concerned about. Thanks, Dennis
  4. Seems there are lots of threads about fuel consumption. I thought it might be good for new(er) folks (like me) to have one definitive thread about what can be expected for MIXED mileage. Now obviously everyone should know that "Your Mileage May Vary" (YMMV) but if we got a consensus here it'd be cool. So I set up this poll for users to vote ONCE for the mileage number that is closest to their AVERAGE MIXED MPG. Not your best, not the least, no varying conditions like mountains, towing, two-up, fuel type used etc. Just normal average mileage say over the last 5 tanks. This would make a great sticky, too. *hint hint*
  5. Is anybody running the Dunlop elite III? Can you tell me what you think and mileage? Thanks.
  6. I changed my plugs, put in new diaphragms (3 out of 4 had lots of holes), ran seafoam, synced the carbs, and my mileage went all the way up to 40mpg. Recent tanks it dropped to about 35-37. So I did the modification whereby I put in a small crankcase filter, and plugged the holes to the airbox and removed the "T" fitting going up to it. Many thanks to skydoc-13 and his write up on how he did this. My mileage is back at 40mpg. One of my cylinders warms up just a tiny bit slower... when i check it with my hand...(back right). I'm not sure that is the problem. Bike runs well, starts right up. Should I recheck the sync? How often does one syc the carbs? The plugs are clean, I have lost 3 mpg somewhere! Thanks
  7. Presently, Im commuting 128 miles a day. I was wondering, how much did your gas mileage improve after the conversion? Im thinking about it if it'll allow me to ride 1 day without having to stop for gas.
  8. Ok guys: All of you that are running Bubs; were you checking your fuel mileage before you installed the Bubs, and have you checked the mileage after installing the Bubs? If so; was it worse or better? Also where did you find the best price? Thanks.
  9. Well I checked the mileage on the new RSTD for the first time and got 41 mpg but I'm still in the break in period so I think that will improve. What are others getting.
  10. My 2006 Midnight Venture just turned over 50,000 miles on this recent road trip and I experienced the BEST gas mileage ever on a tank of gas!! wow.. I road for close to 150 miles before pulling over for fuel at a regular fuel stop and pumped in 12 litres of fuel.. 56.8 MPG Imperial and 47.3 MPG US 70 mph in 5th with all tail winds made a huge diff.. Big beautiful day, 5 hours of traveling to do and I just decided to roll softly.. and was surprised at the mileage.. albeit boring After that fuel stop I slammed it in 4th and rolled with the fast traffic to get home the rest of way hehe.. amazing.. the fuel mileage was significantly worse on the last leg
  11. Due for tire replacement, this is the 1st time. What tire is most recommended for the RSV? Mostly ride 2up. Handling and ride primary concern, mileage second.
  12. I am curious as to how many here have owned 83-84 ventures and lost 2nd gear and at what mileage and those that had no problems?
  13. Like several on here lately, I replaced my diaphragms and even though the bike ran stronger under wide open throttle, my low rpm torque seemed to go down some and my gas mileage seemed to drop a little also. I was getting around 38 to 41 with the old diaphragms and the next two fillups after the new diaphragms were about 37-38 and that was 1-up. Yesterday I replaced the .123 thick washer on the needle with three #4 washers that came to about .093 and made a 250 mile ride today, 2-up. Before at about 140-150 miles, the red light was blinking on fuel. Today at 150 miles I still had two bars left. I should have filled up at that point, but I then did a twelve mile pull up the mountain from Morganton, NC to the Blue Ridge Parkway and stopped and filled it up. At the top of the mountain I had 162 miles on it and had just dropped to one bar. When I filled up and put all I could get in it, it only took 3.6 gallons, so that works out to 45 miles per gallon. And, not only did my MPG's go up over ten percent, but now I feel I have the low rpm torque back. So, if you have not considered making the change on the needle valve adjustment, I am strongly suggesting that you do it. It only took me a few minutes to do it, but I don't run the lower fairings anymore and all I had to take off is my bikini side panels. Even taking all the lower fairings off, it is not a big deal and well worth the effort. RandyA
  14. Hello all. I bought my friends 99 RSV about a year ago and have been having a blast riding since then. I have done numerous maintenance tasks (oil change, clutch fluid, carb sync, etc) on it since I have owned it. During the year I have noticed my gas mileage was right around 28-30 mpg which I thought was normal. During the meet and eat here in Daytona last weekend, and research on this forum, I found out this is not very normal. What are some things I can look at to improve this. The bike seems to run fine. Every now and then I get a back fire on deceleration (But very rare). One thing I know is that my friend put on a Road King muffler when he owned it and he thinks he rejetted it with a stage 3 kit???
  15. I have a 2007 venture it had a California title. Someone told me they put more emission parts on a california bike and thats why the gas mileage is poorer. Is this a myth or not?
  16. For anyone thinking about buying. Here is a good opportunity on a couple of low mileage scoots in the Classifieds My misfortune someones gain. Thanks
  17. Ok, took these pics of the E3 2nd gen rear tire with about 16000 miles. Will be replacing with another E3. Looks like one spot on the tire was getting kind of bald. But over all I am happy with the mileage.
  18. Have been offered a set of 99 hd electraglide mufflers, how hard are they to make fit? Is it even feasible? Any advantage as to mileage? Thanks
  19. My 87 xvz1300 seems to run ok. Back in Feb. Muffinman synched my carbs at the N.Ga/Sc m & e. all of the carp pistons are doing the same dance and it idles smoothly right where it's suppossed to:thumbsup2: But, I'm getting Horrible gas mileage at 20 MPG. GeorgeS suggested I start a new thread and get yall's input.:backinmyday::backinmyday: So, What do you think fellows:icon_smile_question
  20. I'm sure it's been discussed somewhere before, but I probably didn't use the correct wording when I searched ....... Do you grease the driveshaft couplings on a 89 VR like I've been doing for years on my 83? I bought a low mileage (30K) 89 and I'm getting it PM'd and ready to ride. Frank
  21. I just bought me a nice new shiny 2009 Venutre "S" and I am loving it! Within the past 40 miles, I have put on the Samson Slash Cuts, did the AIS Mod and did the 1/4 turn out on all the pilot mixture screw as I read about in these forums. I am woundering, though, what should I expect the gas mileage to be during the breake in period and therafter? Right now I have 400 miles on it and I am consistantly getting only 34 mile per gallon. My crazy, modified, and overpowered 2001 Road Star gets 37 mpg... will it get better as the engine breaks in?
  22. Welcome to my first thread since joining the site. I'm sure the question has been asked before but I can't seem to find it.......how much mileage do 1st Gen's have on their bikes. I just purchased my first Venture (an 86) which I loving refer to as my "couch". It has 72,500 Km's (approx 45,000 miles) on it and I'm curious as to how long I could expect her to remain on the road, if I look after her. I will be picking her up next week. Thoughts, tips, hints or suggestions also welcome???? Thanks to all who choose to respond.

Well, I just read that those stupid ethanol producers are petitioning the EPA to up the amount of ethanol at all pumps to 15% So, what do you think? I know the 10% makes for crappy mileage but it seems to be "okay" for the system. Do you think any problems will arise with our bikes if they mandate 15% ethanol?
  24. Ok guys, I've searched and searched threads on this site and have gotten some good ideas (like setting the floats from V7Goose), but one thing I suspect and haven't been able to find any info on is testing procedures for the coils. The problem is after syncing the carbs my gas mileage went down and it still seems like the cylinders aren't all firing evenly. It's got new plugs in it (original NGK#) and all vacuum lines and plugs are good. I also run a can of Sea Foam regularly. Can anyone help with more suggestions?
