  1. I had a fairly long conversation with Jim Gooch of HMS today and one topic was the rear wheels, Jim stated that any 4-100 15x7 wheel with an offset between 38-40mm would be just fine on there, no worries of any tire or wheel rub. Being able to use a 38 or 40mm offset greatly increases the selection of wheels from which to choose. The larger the number the more to the inside the wheel moves. I also asked about the rear brake line from the rear master cylinder to the T block, it is the Yahamama stock line. I am going to replace it with a braided stainless line. Hope this helps some who may want to put different wheels on.
  2. I went to Fin, Fur and feather yesterday to get a couple new rods and reels to replace our older rods we use for crappie fishing. I guess I should have looked at the prices - 3 reels, 2 rods and tax = $298.00 OUCH ! I had a little cash left so I went upstairs to look at the Kimbers knowing they wouldn't have anything that would fit like my Glock. First I looked at and held the Solo, I know it's not fair but it reminded me of the KelTec I have. Then I asked what other options were available in 9MM. The clerk brought out an Ultra CDP 11, that's when it happened - I was totally smitten I started breathing heavy, broke out in a light sweat and when I could talk again I asked if he had one in a box. No was his response and he just stood there - After a short (very short) awkward moment, I told him to put it in a box before somebody else saw it. :mo money: In line at the cash register a guy looked at me and said - your first Kimber ? I replied yes and he his offered congratulations saying "you'll like it " Bottom line - Don't go to a well stocked sporting goods store without your wife !
  3. Seems that the center yellow lines are only a suggestion for everyone! [ame= ] [/ame]
  4. Well I ordered the SS brake lines and Flanders bars from http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/ and installed all today. Thanks to all the help here and especially my brother Chris. We worked on this all day, from about 7 AM until 10 PM tonight. We did take a few brakes and ate three good meals today that my wonderful wife cooked up. We did all the front and rear brake lines, clutch line, and throttle upgrade. Everything has new Dot 4 fluid and no air. I removed the tank, so I decided that before we put the tank back on, it would be good to go ahead and install the new plugs (NGK DPRea8-9). So we did after removing the dog bones. The plugs gap at 30-35. I put them on 32. The plugs torque at 13 lb each also. So for those inclined to do the SS line upgrade. Would I recommend this as a do it yourself job ? Yes, for those somewhat mechanically inclined. You should plan on a good all day to do it all. I still have to button up a few things, and put all the tools back up. The SS lines will adjust somewhat at the connections and there is a tool included to do this. I would recommend you use plastic garbage bags to cover everything up so the brake fluid does not harm your paint. Fuzzy
  5. I need to replace the chain and sprockets on my daughters bike and I know nothing about either. What are some decent manufactures I can look at. Not looking for top of the line stuff just something that will hold up. Her bike is an '05 Suzuki GS500E.

    Does anyone know...

I was wondering if anyone knows of a site or forum that tells which parts and accessories are interchangable between motorcycle models? Such as what Harley parts fit the RSTD or Venture. I know some parts/ accessories in the Yamaha line fit each other. It would be a big help if this info were in one place. If anyone has mixed or matched parts please let us know. Thanks
  8. It seems I now have the duty of Well Tender on my property. Last good man quit and the small time drilling company has said from the main line tap is my responsibility. I guess since I am a free gas customer not making them any money it's my problem. The old gas well was drilled back in the sixties with an old spudder rig. I remember back as a kid she would roar when you blew the water drip on ocassion.Nowdays I blow the water valve weekly through the winter months and she has little pressure and not much volume.I bet the main line pressure is less then 50 psi.One of my questions is can I use a air guage, compression tester, or buy something from the local hardware store to check line pressure at the input and output of the high pressure regulators? Last winter the old well was making more water then gas and we fought gas on and off for weeks before getting the company out to swab the well. My well runs three houses on my property Dad's,Mine, and my Daughters so I maintain the plumbing to all three. From the pickup tap located 50 ft from the well we go into a small seperator tank with a mix of antifreeze in it. The output of that tank goes into another small overflow tank the one with the blow valve on top. From there we are tee connected to the two high pressure regulators.Mine is the blue high low regulators on the left. The other high regulator goes to my dauthers house via the yellow line going under ground. Her low pressure regulators is at her house before entrance. Dad's low regulator is after her tap in the picture.Don't laugh at the plumbing in the picture I need to do some cleanup work I know. When things are really bad like last winter the regulators freeze off daily. They had to be taken apart and cleaned by our local well tender last year who also serviced the water seperator tank. This year guess thats my responsibility. All this Marcellus drilling in WV have the local well tenders running to the Big Money Companys for Jobs.I had to reset Dad's regulator yesterday. It was a cold night followed by a quick warm period during the day and the regulator shut off.Mine has been going off about twice a week since Thanksgiving. http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m580/ggrabose/Falls%20Mill/PC250974.jpg
  9. Can't get the clutch to bleed or work .When I bought the bike the clutch was going out I bled it and it came back just fine I put about 200 miles on it and it went out again and I tried to bleed it but nothing I thought I saw a leek from the pipe line so I replaced it and now again nothing any ideas?? Small air bubbles come out when I comprees handle but nothing major..
  10. Any one ever replace a clutch line ?? any thing special to be aware of?? Foundm a leak in mine thought it was the slavce cylinder (lost the clutch) but line leaking never replaced one and can't find any thing specific on it but seams pretty straight forward.
  11. There is a Yama Venture Line backrest on eBay, if anyone is interested. Not sure of the condition, as the pics are not very good and description is lacking. Item number is 330665933646. Jim
  12. Busy day and stopped at Micky Ds on the way home Must have had a dozen idiots pull outin front of me and all the rush of the season I was about done. Micky Ds had line I had to wait in for about 15 min. Was getting close to register when this little piece of fluff struts in the door followed by her larger than me escourt ape walking behing her. Jeans and shirt she had on were straining to hold things in. Yeah I looked!! Boyfriend or whatever took a seat and sent her to order. She took a look at the line bounce to the front of it and stepped in front of me as I was starting to order. I said Excuse me young lady but the end of the line is back there. She sputtered a little and went and reported thing to her feller. He came stomping up and stood staring at me trying to figure out what to say. At lest I think he could talk. I gave him a smile and said carefull young man you don't get more than you order. He looked at me several seconds turned and collected her and must have decided to eat somewhere else. Girl behind register was cracking up. Everyone in line was grinning I think. And here I stood thinking ' Old man you are lucky you didn't get your butt handed to you..... Warden chewed on me all the way home!!!!
  13. We've had way too much rain this year. All previous records have been broken for this area. We got another 3" down pour today. Here's a view of the golf course next to us. The little patch of green, centre right, is all that's left of the 16th green. The view is looking north up the 17th fair way. Normally the river is no more than a small creek on the other side of that tree line but when we get this much rain it turns into a real river. I'm guessing that the water is as much as 15 or more feet deep in some spots.
  14. ..... I am just going down south to Albany, as it's a long weekend here. Alan and I are going to a Ulysses Club Odyssey [rally] So won't be on line till Monday -- PLEASE take care of yourselves out there
  15. We just found out that my sister in law died today in a motorcycle crash today. On her way home from work and was hit head on by a cage crossing the center line. She was from Bridgetown Nova Scotia. This is very sad news.
  16. I’m still trying to get my ’83 VR running. I feel like I’m making some progress but I’m still far from having it going. It seems like it is starving for gas. I have cleaned the carbs as well as I can. It will start and run for a few seconds and then dies. It will start again and die again. It sounds just like it is running out of gas. I have new gas lines and new filter going to the inlet side of the fuel pump. I still have the original line going from the outlet side to the carbs. I suspected that I may have an obstruction in the line so I removed it and blew air through it. It seemed to be clear. I put it back on the fuel pump and turned the key on to see how much fuel was being pumped. Since there was no pressure on the line I expected the pump to run continuously but it only pumped for a second and cut off. Each time I would turn the key on, it would just pump for about a second. Is this normal?
  17. Fuel pump died yesterday so did a change out today. I went with the Mr. Gasket 42S model and the NAPA 3011 fuel filter. Was a very easy job and cost less than $60 total. WAY better than the $213 price I found on line. Only caveat I can give is to make sure you get the 90 degree, 45 Degree and the nipple and do not use the filter that comes with the pump. There is absolutely no way it will fit in there otherwise. Set it up like this picture I cut the line from the original pump and just connected it to the new wires just to keep it cleaned up. I also cut down the line from the filter to take the bend out and. I did not fasten down the new pump as it all tucked in fine just under the original mounting bracket.
  18. Think my clutch slave has a slow leak 02rsv I've had the bike since may and had to top the reservoir twice now. Actually found what I am pretty sure is brake fluid on the concrete under the bike this morning. I access the forum with tapatalk with my Android. Someone mentioned the shop manual being on this site, anybody have a url for it. And, does the clutch line travel under the engine, found a line with the leaking fluid on bottom side line. I want to make sure its not just a slightly loose connection. Rebuilding hydraulic cylinders wasn't on my list of thing to do this summer. Bob Marshall, il
  19. Does anyone know where I might find or order the right side wire guide that also holds the front reflector? I've looked in my manual and it can't find a part number so going on line to order one doesn't seem to be an option without it. Repair Ideas Also Welcome!
  20. What goes on during the "Stand the Flag Line". Is it just what it sounds like. Standing in a line with flags. There is a mission where "Stand the Flag Line" is 5 hours.

  22. With all the good info I have read on this site I thought i would chime in with a tip. First of all the fuel filter is difficult but not impossible to remove but i didnt want to repeat that madness everytime i needed to change it. First of all to remove the filter i used needle nosed pliers,a flat blade screwdriver, phillips screw driver, 1/4 drive ratchet, a phillips bit (from my cordless drill)and a socket to hold the bit. You will also need to visit NAPA and get 3 zip ties and a NAPA 3011 fuel filter, It costs around 3.50 and it is a paper element so it will stop all the bad stuff and it is encased in clear plastic so you wont be guessing if there is any crud in the filter. I removed the sidecovers and shut off the fuel valve and freed the fuel line from the metal strap that holds it in place under the fuel tank. On the other side where the filter is i used the 1/4 ratchet with the bit and i was able to loosen and remove the screw that holds the filter in place. It wasnt easy but with a little dexterity i was able to fit the ratchet between the swingarm and frame with my right hand and hold the head of the ratchet with my left hand to maintain pressure on the screw till it was off. I removed the screw that holds the filter bracket to the frame and removed the bracket and now the bracket has a home in a drawer. Use the needle nose pliers to squeeze the clamps and slide them back on the hose. Use a flatblade screwdriver to pry the fuel line from the filter on both sides and toss that milky colored filter. The beauty of this whole post is a napa 3011 fuel filter will work and is shorter and easily fits in that tight spot and it will not collapse when you are at full throttle. Just clip off the smaller diameter ends of the filter tube and attatch to the fuel lines. Slide the clamps back over and now you have a nice clear filter but the whole thing kind of flops around. Put a zip tie through the hole where the filter clamp screw was and wrap it around the fuel filter. Now you can use the other zip ties to secure the fuel line. I just tied them to the frame and did it so the fuel filter is nice and level. You can put some electrical tape on the fuel line before you zip tie it if you think the zip tie might rub a hole in the fuel line. Dont forget to hook the line back into the metal strap on the other side. Now you can change the filter next time quicker than the guys changing tires on a racecar at a nascar race. Just use a pair of snips to cut the ties, loosen the clamps, replace the filter and reassemble. Put on 3 ties and you are DONE. This filter is close to the diameter of the stock filter so you purists out there can put it back in the clamp if you want. It is not as long as the stock filter but hey i can replace it once a year for 3.50 versus not replacing the filter this year because the stealer wants 20.00 bucks. Good Luck:sun:
  23. About to buy some wheel bearings on line. 83-93 are the same bearings aren't they?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330556005707&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  24. You have a better chance of getting it right if you read slowly. The following was developed as a mental age assessment by the School of Psychiatry at Harvard University . Take your time and see if you can read each line aloud without a mistake. The average person over 40 years of age cannot do it! 1. This is this cat. 2. This is is cat. 3. This is how cat. 4. This is to cat. 5. This is keep cat. 6. This is an cat. 7. This is old cat. 8. This is fart cat. 9. This is busy cat. 10. This is for cat. 11. This is forty cat. 12. This is seconds cat. Now go back and read the third word in each line from the top down.
  25. My good friend ordered the new E3s for his 09 Ultra Classic. The dealer won't balance them since they require 3.7 oz of weights. He called Jake Wilson and they will take them back and send a replacement set and no cost. It appears that the new tire for the HD line has had some problems. The dealer said that not only are they way out of balance but the front one is out of round. Just passing it on.
