  1. A few months ago I totaled my 2007 RSV. MrsSquid and I are OK. Here are some photos of my new bike the evening I got her home.... Yes, I know that I tied it down wrong as I found the proper procedure after I got it home.... http://inlinethumb40.webshots.com/11815/2296511360056765227S425x425Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb25.webshots.com/45528/2826732790056765227S425x425Q85.jpg
  2. OK GL1800 Gold Wing riders I need your help here!!! Looking at possibly buying a GL1800 from Georgia. This will be a hot shot run there and back and was thinking of riding it back home but since its over 1,300 miles one way it would be hard on Peg driving the P/U that far in a short period of time back home so it looks like I'll be trailering the GW back home I need to know the total length of the GL1800 so I'll know if my trailer is long enough or I need to rent one instead?
  3. Nothing profound, no great ground shaking words of wisdom. Just simply Thanksgiving Just over a year ago Lonna and I started this new adventure in our lives. Stayed with Gunboat for just about 6 months before I found work and we got into our new home. Looking back on this new adventure of ours, I see that there is a lot to be thankful for. Times were tough when we 1st got down here and I had doubts on if we were gonna stay. I'm glad that we did and with that said, I know we have a lot to be thankful for. So this Thanksgiving has a bit of a different meaning to it, as you folks here have helped us make Texas our Home....Thank you to all the members here, and the usual suspects that helped us loose our homeless status....and become Texans. May all our members have a blessed Thanksgiving Day
  4. I have been working on this for about a week and I have had some successes and failures. Take a good look and tell me where I need to consentrate my efforts.
  5. Well, I wasn't planning on going this afternoon to pick up the bike because I was scheduled to close on the refinance on my home at 4pm. But, after calling Wells Fargo to verify where I was supposed to be, the lady informed me it had been changed to tomorrow and she realized she had failed to notify me. So, given that tomorrow is 60% chance of rain and Wednesday is going to be horrible traffic getting around Asheville, NC, I went home at lunch and picked up the trailer and am going to try to get it done today. For some reason, I am a little apprehensive about this. Mostly, just getting the bike loaded on the trailer, especially since it is not running. I am also going to have to find someplace to put the extra engine and maybe a whole bunch more parts if he will let them go cheap. I guess my little Maxima is going to be loaded down. So now I am sitting here trying to function for a couple more hours until I can get out of here. I must say, it is a beautiful 70º day and maybe that is a good sign. Wish me luck, RandyA
  6. Woke up early this morning, around 3:30. I've been in Louisville, KY all week and will be heading home later today. It has rained most of the week and traffic and rain really wears me out. Eileen says it has rained off and on all week at home also but the forecast for tomorrow is showing a high of 47 degrees and only a 10% chance of rain. If it's that good, I plan to find the time to get a little ride in. I sure need to spend some time in the wind to clear this old mind...or what's left of it.
  7. this is something that really seems quite right!! you think?? I AM THANKFUL: FOR THE WIFE WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT, BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME, AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE. FOR THE HUSBAND WHO IS ON THE SOFA BEING A COUCH POTATO, BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS. FOR THE TEENAGER WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME, NOT ON THE STREETS. FOR THE TAXES I PAY BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED. FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS. FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT. FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME. FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT BECAUSE IT MEANS WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH. FOR THE PARKING SPOT I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION. FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH WHO SINGS OFF KEY BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR. FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR. FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE. AND FINALLY, FOR TOO MUCH E-MAIL BECAUSE: IT MEANS I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE THINKING OF ME. SEND THIS TO SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT. I JUST DID. Live well, Laugh often, and Love with all of your heart!
  8. Hope all are getting home safe from Big Bend. We are leaving in the AM. What a great group and THANKS a million to all that came.
  9. Brown Sugar is back at home again. She is so tickled that she got a roof over her head again she is grinning from mirror to mirror. I peaked in on her and even saw her turning cart-wheels, popping wheelies, spinning donuts and front wheel stands. I guess there is no place like home......
  10. I hate posting this but I just had a pretty major electrical fire in my sidecar. While going to breakfast my son put a dime in the electrical outlet on the dash of my escort. By the time I was able to pull over there was smoke coming from under the dash and then the electrical connector to the bike started smoking and melting, followed by smoke comining out from under the seat. Luckly everybody was able to get out with much more than a red spot on a finger. I unplugged the sidecar but it doesn't appear that the sidecar was wired very well when it was put together for me as they didn't use the right sized fuses and it appears to have fried my dash panel on my Royal Star Venture. I cannot get the brake lights or turn signals to work but all the running lights are working. The connector is fried, wires melted enough to break and the wires under the seat are melted pretty bad. I tied calling SideStrider to see if they could help but I havent gotten a call back yet. I'm not sure about getting home or what to do. Any help in the Universal City area of Los Angeles would be greatly appreciated. Ron McDonald Normaly from Lakewood Washington but currently stranded in Los Angeles
  11. Well the 1st Gen found a new home today. I was a little sad to see her go, but Ol' Blue just fits me better. I sold it to my cousin and her husband so she's still in the family. They're stepping up from a cruiser to a touring bike, I think they'll be very happy.
  12. Well we did it again. The harvest this year was early and bountiful. Which left us with a window to get the heck out of here. So on October 7th we packed up the Venture and headed southwest again. The itinerary was to basically see Mesa Verda Nat'l Park , Bryce & Zion Canyons Nat'l Parks. We rode Interstate until we came to Highway 50 in Missouri past St. Louis. From there it was nothing but two lane blacktop. We made stops at Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Mon., The Strater Hotel at Durango, Colorado {had to have a drink at the Diamond Belle saloon} cool place felt like the Earps could walk in anytime, Natural Bridges Nat'l Mon., Capital Reef Nat'l Park, Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park, Zion Nat'l Park, Standin on the corner at Winslow Arizona, Valley of Fires Nat'l Rec Area, Roswell, New Mexico from there to Amarillo, Texas to I-40 then interstates back home. The weather was beautiful. In the mornings it was alittle cool but by 9:00 or 10:00 it warmed up fine. Before the trip I had bought the wife a Tourmaster heated coat and myself a Tourmaster heated vest. Her coats control unit failed after the second use of it so I gave her mine which she used off and on for the rest of the trip. I never needed my vest anyway. Since I have been home I have recieved another control unit for the failed one plus bought another one for a spare. I have heard that the aspen trees are beautiful in the fall. Let me tell you that this fact is true. They were a very bright gold. This made for some breathtaking visas with the green and gold against the mountainsides. We only rode in the rain once and that wasn't a hard rain. It was when we were making the first ascent into the Rockies in Colorado. The rain stopped after we were through the pass. The wife took 724 pictures. I will only post a few as pictures do not do the beauty and splendor of the west justice. The Venture ran like a Swiss watch. Burned up roughly over $300.00 of gas and a 1/2 qt of oil. Total miles 4577 in 15 days but right now it just seems like a dream.
  13. We went to get a cup off coffee last night and on the way home I seemed to have picked up a new sound. Brenda describes it as a stuck leaf or something stuck somewhere that is flapping around and I concur that is seems like something is vibrating. Engine temp and voltage are good, tach is solid and the speedo has an occasional flutter around 55-65 (but the cable has been replaced by the shop last year and I know what a squealing speedo cable sounds like.). Brake disks were cold to the touch when we arrived home (it was in the 30's). The sound is not continuous and will vary in intensity, starting abruptly and fading out or vice versa. It does not appear to be speed or RPM related! I'm kinda stumped but am leaning towards checking the speedo cable or maybe an exhaust leak at the front header?? Any other ideas??
  14. Just wanted to give you all an update on our son, Jason. He flew into Columbus, MS this morning. He's been in Afghanistan for the last 7 months and is home for good...or until the Air Force wants him back over there I guess. Not sure what his next assignment will be yet...but we are very thankful he is home for now. Thank you all for your support during this time. We appreciate it and hope all our military personnel make it home safe. Don and Patti
  15. I had an accident and broke my ankle at the end of July and some buddies from my bike club went and picked my bike up in Quebec and brought it home for me the next day (about a 260km trip). That was on August 2nd. Since then the bike sat in a friends garage and today he went to take it back to my place for storage but the battery was completely dead. At first he thought it was because I had my GPS charger plugged in the accessory outlet, but that outlet is switched. Then I read the owners manual and saw the note about pulling the battery if the bike will sit for more then a month. Is it normal for the Venture to drain a battery so fast? My last bike, a Honda Shadow, could sit for 4 months in minus 20 and below winters and it would fire up in the spring no problem. Seems kinda weird for a bike for go completely flat in just 2 months. Especially since the bike is almost brand new (9 months old). Anyhow, it's on the way home now and first thing I will be doing before I winterize it, is make a small harness up so I can hook my tender up with the battery still installed. On long rips, i might start carrying some jumper cables as well.
  16. I had my Cervical spine surgery weds, every thing went well. Dr Smisson told Karren the surgery went perfectly as planned. He did fusion C5 to C7 with plate. I was the first person the that Dr Smission has let go home the day of surgery. Yes did it as outpatient. I am doing well, still having some pain, but they said that was normal. Pain should subside in a few days. Gregg

    Got one!

I want to thank all of the posters here who gave so much good advise (not to mention their time) answering a lot of rookie questions. I found a 1999 RSV in immaculate condition. I picked it up on Friday evening, and rode it home the next day. I put just over 610 miles on it Saturday. The Avons are nearly new, it has had a 100 percent service and fluids change, the rear end and splines have been serviced, and it came with a bunch of extras like a 1300lb floor jack. My ride home showed only 1 fault - the original saddle. I had tried out a 2003 with a pillow-top, and my fat a** liked it a lot better. If any one knows of someone who has purchased a Corbin or Mustang, and has a pillow-top unit taking up space in the garage, let me know what you want for it. At the same time, I know of a perfect stock 1999 model RSV seat if anyone's looking!!!
  18. PENSION SEX Two men were talking. 'So, how's your sex life?' 'Oh, nothing special. I'm having Pension sex.' 'Pensionsex?' 'Yeah, you know; I get a little each month, but not enough to live on!' LOUD SEX A wife went in to see a therapist and said, 'I've got a big problem, doctor. Every time we're in bed and my husband climaxes, He lets out this ear splitting yell.' 'My dear,' the shrink said, 'that's completely natural. I don't see what the problem is.' 'The problem is,' she complained, 'it wakes me up!' QUIET SEX Tired of a listless sex life, the man came right out and asked his wife during a recent lovemaking session, 'How come you never tell me when you have an orgasm?' She glanced at him and replied, 'You're never home!' CONFOUNDED SEX A man was in a terrible accident, and his 'manhood' was mangled and torn from his body. His doctor assured him that modern medicine could give him back his manhood, but that his insurance wouldn't cover the surgery since it was considered cosmetic. The doctor said the cost would be $3,500 for 'small, $6,500 for 'medium, and $14,000 for 'large.' The man was sure he would want a medium or large, but the doctor urged him to talk it over with his wife before he made any decision. The man called his wife on the phone and explained their options. The doctor came back into the room, and found the man looking dejected. 'Well, what have the two of you decided?' asked the doctor. 'She'd rather remodel the kitchen.' WEDDING ANNIVERSARY SEX A husband and his wife had a bitter quarrel on the day of their 40th wedding anniversary. The husband yelled, 'When you die, I'm getting you a headstone that reads: 'Here Lies My Wife - Cold As Ever'.' 'Yeah,' she replies, 'when you die, I'm getting you a headstone that reads: 'Here Lies My Husband - Stiff At Last.' ' WOMEN'S HUMOROUS SEX My husband came home with a tube of K Y jelly and said, 'This will make you happy tonight.' He was right. When he went out of the bedroom, I squirted it all over the doorknobs. He couldn't get back in. ELDERLY SEX One night, an 87 year-old woman came home from Bingo and found her 92 year-old husband in bed with another woman. She became violent and ended up pushing him off the balcony of their 20th floor, assisted living apartment, killing him instantly. Brought before the court on the charge of murder, the judge asked her if she had anything to say in her defense. She began coolly, 'Yes, your honour. I figured that at 92, if he could have sex... He could also fly.'
  19. If you are interested in any of these parts please get a hold of me right away! I will be leaving for a week then I will be back home. What ever is left is going on flee bay. Thanks Gannon http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/88vmx12/ven1.jpg http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/88vmx12/ven2.jpg http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/88vmx12/ven3.jpg http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/88vmx12/ven4.jpg http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/88vmx12/ven5.jpg http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/88vmx12/ven6.jpg http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/88vmx12/ven7.jpg http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/88vmx12/ven8.jpg http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/88vmx12/ven9.jpg
  20. Barb and I got home from our trip and we're both still grinning. The weather was great, the bike ran perfect, and we had a lot of laughs with our friends. The 4 of us travelled from southern IL to Branson on state and U.S. highways---no interstates at all. Had a great couple of days in Branson. It was too bad that I hadn't read Wild Hair's message while I was in his neighborhood----we were only about 40 miles away and could have visited. Then we went down to Hot Springs. We took Rte. 7 from Harrison to Hot Springs and it is a great road on a bike. We continued our "no interstate" theme and rode to Tunica Miss. and let Mr Harrah put us up for a great price. On the way back to Illinois we stopped in Memphis and had lunch on Beale St. We intend on going back next year for their Wednesday bike night on Beale St. It sounds like there are a lot of bikes there for that. All told, we put just shy of 2,000 miles on the bike. Only one small thing to take care of. Our friends 1800cc Wing decided that it wanted to roll forward and off the kickstand. Our Venture was sharing a parking spot and kept the Wing from hitting the ground. To do this, the Venture had to sacrifice it's radiator cover (it cracked). If somebody has one that they want to part with, please send me a private message. Frank
  21. OK I need some input on where to start and what might be wrong. Everything on my stereo comes on and works like it should except no sounf from speakers or headset. I can hear it a little bit when it is cranked all the way up. FM, Tape deck and MP3 all play. The CB radio works as it should and I can hear it fine. It started this a few days ago and then all of a sudden it started to work and then when I got home it went out again. Thanks Rick
  22. This morning, I was coming home from work. It wasn't quite light yet, but just barely dawn. (cold too) I had just started to pass a car, when I saw a very big buck heading my way , in a hurry. ( he was an 8 or 10 point, at least). He stopped about 10 feet from the road in front of me, and just looked at me. I laid on the Stebel horn, and it was enough to send him running off the other way. I think the guy I was passing never saw him, and was wondering what I was honking at. Scary at the time, but glad it turned out ok. I see lots of deer between home, and the 40 miles to work.
  23. We got home from St. Judes about 8:00 oclock, other than fighting the cross winds on I 40 everything went well. (even the plug in the tire) It was good to see old friends and make new ones. Hope everyone makes it home safe.
  24. We finally made it home from the 5th Annual St. Jude Meet & Eat & Tour. Had a grand time, met plenty of new faces and we have been challenged, I will tell more about that later. Its after midnite and need to get to bed so we can get up and make it to church on time.. To recap the ride we had 16 bikes, 1 cage, and a total of 26 bodies. Our final donation for 2010 was $1,876.00. Very good considering we didnt have Vogel to help with the totals......... Thanks again to everyone who donated, bid, contributed, and supported this effort, it was a great team effort by all.
  25. THOUGHT YOU MIGHT ENJOY THIS ... 'Someone asked the other day, 'What was your favorite fast food when you were growing up?' 'We didn't have fast food when I was growing up,' I informed him. 'All the food was slow.' 'C'mon, seriously. Where did you eat?' 'It was a place called 'at home,'' I explained. ! 'Mom cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.' By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table. But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I figured his system could have handled it : Some parents NEVER owned their own house, never wore Levis, never set foot on a golf course, never traveled out of the country or had a credit card. In their later years they had something called a revolving charge card. The card was good only at Sears Roebuck. Or maybe it was Sears & Roebuck. Either way, there is no Roebuck anymore. Maybe he died. My parents never drove me to soccer practice.. This was mostly because we never had heard of soccer... I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed, (slow) We didn't have a television in our house until I was 16. It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at midnight, after playing the national anthem and a poem about God; it came back on the air at about 6 a..m. and there was usually a locally produced news and farm show on, featuring local people. I was 21 before I tasted my first pizza, it was called 'pizza pie.' When I bit into it, I burned the roof of my mouth and the cheese slid off, swung down, plastered itself against my chin and burned that, too. It's still the best pizza I ever had. I never had a telephone in my room. The only phone in the house was in the living room and it was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn't know weren't already using the line. Pizzas were not delivered to our home But milk was. All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers -- It cost 7 cents a paper, and they got to keep 2 cents. They had to get up at 6AM every morning. On Saturday, they had to collect the 42 cents from their customers. Their favorite customers were the ones who gave them 50 cents and told them to keep the change. Their least favorite customers were the ones who seemed to never be home on collection day. Movie stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the movies. There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without profanity or violence or most anything offensive. If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren Just don't blame me if they bust a gut laughing. Growing up isn't what it used to be, is it? MEMORIES from a friend : My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother's house (she died in December) and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it.. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to 'sprinkle' clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old. How many do you remember? Head lights dimmer switches on the floor. Ignition switches on the dashboard. Heaters mounted on the inside of the fire wall. Real ice boxes. Pant leg clips for bicycles without chain guards. Soldering irons you heat on a gas burner. Using hand signals for cars without turn signals. Older Than Dirt Quiz : Count all the ones that you remember not the ones you were told about. Ratings at the bottom. 1. Blackjack chewing gum 2.Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water 3. Candy cigarettes 4. Soda pop machines that dispensed glass bottles 5. Coffee shops or diners with tableside juke boxes 6. Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers 7. Party lines on the telephone 8 Newsreels before the movie 9. P.F. Flyers 10. Butch wax 11.. TV test patterns that came on at night after the last show and were there until TV shows started again in the morning. (there were only 3 channels... [if you were fortunate]) 12. Peashooters 13. Howdy Doody 14. 45 RPM records 15. S& H greenstamps 16. Hi-fi's 17. Metal ice trays with lever 18. Mimeograph paper 19. Blue flashbulb 20. Packards 21. Roller skate keys 22. Cork popguns 23. Drive-ins 24. Studebakers 25. Wash tub wringers If you remembered 0-5 = You're still young If you remembered 6-10 = You are getting older If you remembered 11-15 = Don't tell your age If you remembered 16-25 = You're older than dirt! I might be older than dirt but those memories are some of the best parts of my life. Don't forget to pass this along!! Especially to all your really OLD friends......
