    Covers

I've got an Ultraguard cover right now that has just, unfortunately, ripped. This cover is thin enough that I can fold it up and put it in the saddle bag and, if scrunched down, leaves about 1/2 the saddle bag still available. This is a full cover with windshield protection and heat shield on the bottom. I looked at covers on line but you just don't know how thick, heavy and bulky they are on line. I was wondering it anyone uses a similar cover, for their RSV, and what kind and model it is. I like it because it doesn't take up much space and I can take it with me and cover the bike anywhere. Any suggestions?
  2. Ijust bought some nice chrome rotor/caliper covers and fender rail for my 88 1300. These parts came off of a 1200, the caliper covers look different as the bolt holes are not the same. Looks like the fender rail will fit but how about the rotor covers? I figured they were all the same, but I think I am wrong. So what are the difference between the 1200 and 1300 front ends??? Kim
  3. I removed the rotor covers so that I could polish them up and just put them back on when I spoon on new tires next week. Didn't realize that one of them is weighted (right side) and today's shake down ride showed me why. Braking produced a high frequency vibration noise without the covers installed. Kinda like rubbing your finger around the top of a wine glass to get that humming noise. All the rotor bolts are torqued properly and in sequence. Seems odd that it would make a noise. I've seen pictures of other RSV's here without the covers but have not heard anyone report this noise before.
  4. Looking for site to order after market chrome nut covers for Royal Star Venture 2006.
  5. Does anyone know if Yamaha made chrome rotor covers for the 1st gen VR's? I've seen a couple of bikes with them but the answer I always get when I ask the owner about them is that the bike had them when purchased. I am looking for a set so I can install a Ring of Fire. Any help from anyone?
  6. ive had some people ask about my motor covers there is some covers on ebay now http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-XVZ1200-Royale-CHROME-ENGINE-COVER-SET_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10066QQihZ003QQitemZ130217524971QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW & http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-side-cover-trim-1983-through-1985_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ013QQitemZ230246762474QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  7. Any idea where to get chrome parts for an 89? Things like the air intakes on the fairing, air vents on the side covers. Also is there a way to install a Ring of Fire on a Venture? Been told you can convert 1200 Goldwing rotor covers to make it work.
  8. I'm wondering if those shiny covers found on the RSTD and/or the RSV would fit a 1st gen 1300 engine. I'm referring to things like the clutch cover, water pump, etc and how about those "fake fins" ... would they fit on a 1st gen? anyone know?
  9. I wanted chrome rider floorboard covers to match my Yamaha Chrome Passenger floorboards but I am too cheap to spend 200+ on the Yamaha's covers. I noticed that Yamaha's covers fit V-Stars, Road Stars, and Royal Stars and Kuryakin only lists the V-Star and Road Star. I decided to take a chance and bought the V-Star covers on ebay for $79.95 shipped and guess what they fit. Here's the guy I bought mine from: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=140156430541&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=004 For some reason he has the Road Star listings for a little more money but they're the same boards.

    Air boxes

Has anyone tried to paint the air box covers? I think it would really set the bike off but dont know how it would look. If anyone has done this would you please post a pic and let me know steps for the covers to be painted. Thanks Scott
  11. Hey ALL: I added the K&N filters with the Chrome Covers this past weekend....Just took them out of the plastic...attached the new gasket to the inside of the cover....installed the new Chrome covers and put back on the bike... First thing I noticed...It did not idle as smooth...and the "exhaust note" from the right side sounded like my old 68 Ford from way back with a big cam in it... Second when I drove it, occassonally when I let of throttle I get a mild "backfire"....If I really down shift and put pressure on the the system, I MIGHT get a LOUD BANG/POP...Took it to a service tech I know and he has thirty two years in the business....As soon as mentioned the problem in said.."To much oil in the filters...take them out and let them set a while.." He said he had noticed that other K&N Filters were coming in to him with more than normal oil in filter... ANY THOUGHTS? HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM....ANY INPUT WOULD BE WELCOMED... 12. I have a few sets of the (Discontinued) Royal Star Chrome Rotor Covers that I'm going to put up for sale and I don't know what they're worth. I was wondering what VRs that have them paid for them... And what Caliper Covers did you use with these.. From what I understand is the RS Caliper covers won't work on the RSV. Thanks Maineac
  13. That got yer attention:rotf:. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has used beaded seat covers on their bikes? If so could ya gimme a rundown on what ya think about them. Thanks
  14. :whistling:Does anyone have any idea why Yamaha makes this awsome looking bike, and places this cheap... plastic.... ugly.... breather covers on BOTH sides of the bike? Is there an alternative? Bo
  15. What are the black plastic pieces that are on top of the valve covers and do they really need to be on there?
  16. My 87 Venture Royale had over 90,000 miles on it and recently developed a starter clutch problem which prevented starter from engageing with flywheel. I had already managed to get through last summer living with a low compression problem on one cylinder and knew I was facing a valve clearance proceedure and possibly other problems that would require major engine work. Considering that and the mileage I was pleased to be able to snag a very low mileage 1990 motor from one of my favorite ebay sellers who is also a VenturRider member (HessforLess), for what I thought was a great price. Since I resigned myself to an engine change out I decided to go ahead and completely restore the whole bike by taking the paint job up a few notches by unleashing my artistic nature by adding two color metalflake 3 dimensional shade variation ghost flames and Dragonslayer theme artwork Windsheild etching and Airbrush art on Gas tank cover. I also resolved myself to fixing all other known problems not already addressed in the process, mainly carberation. The new diaphrams for which cost me more than the whole engine. The details of the foregoing I'll post on seperate threads. But the subject of this thread is dressing out the motor. Having received the motor I decided to detail it's appearence before installing while it was still on the bench and easier to work with. The few things I did made a world of difference and the end result was so dramatic it blew me away enough to inspire me to post on this forum. CLEANING: The first thing I did was completly degrease and clean every speck of grim off every external suface on the motor. This I did by using a biodegradeable degreasing agent, an assortment of soft bristle brushes down to que-tip size which enabled me to get into every crack and crevice. Soaking, brushing, wiping, rinsing , air blowing dry over and over untill I was satisfied. This took some time but I was fortunate enough to have an idle helper available that did most of the grunt work under close supervision. The organic degreasers are slower than petroleum based solvents and other harsh chemicals that are available. But I planned on painting the engine block and my past experience has been that the chemical solvents frequently are not compatible with paint chemicals causing the paint to bubble and blister on application. Using biodegradeable degreaser and rinsing thoughly with warm water, (carefully applied protecting Intake manifolds and any other openings which would allow water inside motor), the paint problem is eliminated. PAINTING I had used in the past and decided to use on this project a product made by Dupli-Color made especially for engine blocks. The paint is in aerosol cans and is called High Heat and is rated up to 1200 degrees F. It comes in several colors as well as a clear final coat for extra protection. I choose what they call chrome. It is shinny silver when color is applied but when the color coat is covered with the clear coat it turns from shinny chrome color to aluminum color which is about the same as the original Yamaha block color. The paint has a ceramic base and when the paint is cured it has a hard shinny finish that does seem like ceramic coating. The paint covers well and applies easily for a smooth even finish. The key is to be easy on the trigger of the can because a small squirt covers alot and if your trigger finger is too heavy you'll end up over loading the paint and making a mess of it. It dries quickly and spot touch up blends in well leaving no trace. POLISHING I've always hated the varnish coating Yamaha puts on the side covers and valve covers for protection. I've not seen a 1st gen yet where the varnish was not weathered and in a lot of cases completely broken down allowing corrosion and oxidation of metal alloy surfaces. No wonder Yamaha covered up the motor with all those fiberglass body pieces and side covers. I have attempted on several occasions to wax, buff, polish or chemically remove the varnish film with marginal if any success for all the time and elbow grease expended. This time I decided to remove the covers and take them down the street to the local chromer, ( Pro Chrome and Polishing, Scottdale, Ga.) who happens to be owned and operated by Gary a friend of mine. SIDE NOTE: Gary seemed unusally joyful during this transaction which was somewhat uncharacteristic of his normal gruff old biker dude demeanor. Evidently his new joyfull:bighug:attitude is a result of closing a deal with the Discovery Channel where they are developing a new biker motorhead series "Drag Bike Racing for Pinks" which I understand will be on the air in near future. Evidently the discovery channel needed a new bike show to fill the void when Paul Jr. & Sr. Jumbed over to the learning Channel. I volunteered my services as a roadie when I picked up the covers, but I don't think he heard me up there on Cloud Nine. Polishing Continued: I hate to credit his gleeful state for the results on the covers because I know he does good work anyway. But, I must say that when I opened the box to inspect the covers The descriptive word and phrase that I must have repeated over and over was WOW, What a difference that made I could not have been more pleased with the results. Gary had acid dipped the covers to clean and disolve varnish film, Buffed them using the right stuff and whatever other trick of the trade he used on them it made a huge difference on the look of the motor. I dont know if you can tell in the photo since the reflection of the flash distorts the effect. But, take my word for it looks great. The cost was $175.00 for the polishing work and about $30.00 for the side cover gaskets. This does not include new valve cover gaskets which I have not bought yet. I just could not swallow the $30.00 a piece Yamaha wants for Gaskets. So now I'm looking for a more reasonable after market dealer. If anyone knows of a better source Please share. Screw Yamaha. I'm betting that when she gets put all back together with the LED Lighting, colored spark plg wires, wireing and cable sleaves and other details I've added I'll be throwing those side covers awayto show off the motor. Well.... Maybe not since I've just put so much time, effort and expense painting them. But, I am considering modifying them to flip on and off when parked at Bike night or other bike event to show off the motor. I thought maybe I could hinge them and rig a mechanism to flip them up like the doors on the old Gull Wing Porsch. Or better yet a little motor to slide them back out of the way between the saddle bags and the rear tire, like a motorized pocket door. I don't know maybe I'll put some more thought into it.

    plastic covers

what is the purpose of the plastic covers (2ea) extending completely across both front & rear valve covers. Are they necessary to keep in use? Thanks for your expert advice I've used already.
  21. OK here goes. I was inquiring if anyone had a power loss from installing HD pipes on their RSV. Everyone was telling me that they experienced no loss of power just better sound. I kept changing pipes and still a loss of power and loss of top end. I found a set that seemed to bring my power back that came off a 05 HD Road King. Thought the problem was solved. Wrong. Well here is the tale of the tape so to speak. Changing pipes was not the only thing I changed. I also at this time added a set of the Yamaha Billet Carburetor Covers. Those who have installed these no where I'm going with this. The install requires you to remove two bolts from your carb diaphragm cover to use in the installation and replace them with the supplied bolts. There are two shims that fit into the diaphragm holes to secure the covers. Well....... You really should make sure that the shims are seated in the holes...... If you don't you create a huge opening for air to enter the carb from the outside, bypassing the air filter. The result is that when you twist the throttle full you create a vacuum in the carbs and the diaphragm gets sucked into the carb from the rush of the outside air. The tech working on my bike said that when the diaphragms got sucked in, I was then only getting fuel from two carbs instead of four to the cylinders. It turned out to be an easy fix. Re seat the diaphragms and realign the shims. Problem solved. Now I wont say who installed the carb covers or who might of forgot to check the diaphragm covers to make sure that they were tight. He will here from me ( I did it) later on this. Just as a side note... When I was trying to find out what was wrong with the power I took my bike up to 95MPH where it quit accelerating. Now think on that....... A V4 that will do 95MPH on two carbs into 4 cylinders and still be as fast as a Harley. :>) Moakster
  22. I'm looking for a smooth billet breather covers for the 2nd Gen. like those pictured below. Part number: STR-4NK27-15-01 http://www.psndealer.com/dealersite/images/ec0268/STR-4NK27-15-01.jpg Please Email me if you know of a source other than the $150 price I keep seeing. Thanks...
  23. Check this out! Saw these great covers at the Star B Que in Texas and purchased one, and I think it's worth your time. The web site is www.coveralls.biz, Ver unique and totally different from the "regular" covers we have all seen, and maybe own. These folks even have a cover just for the seat, for use when you get off the bike and leave it in the sun or rain. David R.
  24. Just received the Kuryakyn Shift Peg covers and am having a bear of a time trying to remove the OEM rubber covers from the shifter. On my other bikes I was able to muscle it off over the end of the shift peg without cutting (or otherwise damaging) the OEM rubber. Anybody have the Kury shift peg covers installed? How did you get the OEM rubber off? Did you have to cut them off? I don't want to reinvent the wheel here; I'm sure somebody out there knows the trick and will share it here. Thanks!

    Vent covers, 1st Gen

One of the things I really didn't care for on the first gen Ventures is the open vent over the rear cylinders. That really cooks the old jeans on the rider. I've seen some of y'alls bikes that have covers of various types in place over these vents. But I can't find any anywhere on the net. So, does anyone know if they are still available?
