  1. I just bought this chrome radiator grill from ebay. It cleaned up nicely. Just one thing, the bottom left corner is bent in and there are some hairline stress lines on the chrome. You can't feel the stress lines. There are two very small spots on the curved edge part where the chrome has chipped. On the back side you can see and feel where the chrome has buckled. I want to bent it back out but am concerned about the chrome. Being that it is on the bottom one probably can't see the bend and so I could just leave it bent. I've included 3 pictures. 1) Good Right side, 2) Bent Left side, 3) Hairline Stress lines. The camera seemed to have enhanced the stress lines more than it really looks. I've not rebent chrome pieces myself and so open to advise. Is there something one should put on the shipped chrome to prevent it from gettnig worst. Also I believe there is supposed to be a "V" Venture Emblem top center. Where can one get them?
  2. 2006. Is just black a midnight model or other things different? Mine has chrome forks and was wondering. There is about a $900 different in KBB also between the 2.
  3. 1997 Royal Star I've taken off the rear seat back rest and saddle bags making it look like a solo ride. The problem is I took the back rest chrome off leaving the sides of the rear fender with 2 open holes I've seen the chrome eye brows ( chrome strip on either side of rear fender) on road star that go there but I've searched under that and can't find them any where is for any thing!! is there another name for them???
  4. I just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed this forum and how much it has helped me to make the right choices for my 2008 RSVS. Based upon what I’ve read on this site and the technical library I have in the past month accomplished the following updates. Lift adaptor with legs (purchased from Carbon_One) Engine Guard support brackets (purchased from Carbon_One) Stebel Air Horn (purchased from Carbon_One bracket and harness) Upgraded the stock passenger floorboards Leather Lever grips Tachometer Driver back rest (purchased from Diamond R) Highway pegs with Long Horn adjustable mounts Luggage insert set (monogramed from TLC Products) Light Bar Passing lights and visors MP3 Venture from Spain (vs. a CD player) Trunk Rack Radiator Grill Chrome Choke Knob Front Fender Rails Saddle Bag Rails (lower) LED License Plate Frame Scorpio i900 Alarm system 3 Pocket Leather Harley dash mounted storage Chrome Rear Break Reservoir cover Chrome side covers (purchased from Diamond R) Tire Guard monitoring system Tuxedo Bib Chrome Tail Light cover Signal Dynamics BackOff XP Kuryakyn Battery Monitor Flash2Pass Joe Florida Accent LEDs TouraTech GPS locking mount with RAM Garmin 665 Cycle Pump and Tire Repair kit Sync Pro Motion Pro carb sync meter Progressive air shock pump Trunk Lid Accessory insert Clymer Service Manual Schubreth C3 World Black helmet with SRC All of this self-installed from instructions found on this forum. I bought this bike with 400 miles on it last October 2011. It had been ridden 3 times once each year since new and stored inside a heated guest house by the owner. The owner was a family friend. When he passed away unexpectedly the family hoped I would want to buy it. They were correct. It is a wonderful bike and deserved these upgrades. I am preparing for a coast to coast ride next year with my father-in-law who dreams of this ride for his 70th birthday. I’ll be making sure he has a good trip. He has a new Yamaha Stratoliner 1900. We should have little trouble if we plan it out right. Thanks to everyone who contributes on this forum for all the great advice from your experience I have been able to use to great advantage. I appreciate it more than I can express.
  5. I was at Walmart today picking up plastic buckles to replace the ones on the trunk straps, and I came across these great driving lights for the Venture. They are all chrome teardrops for under $20 bucks...& they come with the wiring, fuse, & switch! http://www.walmart.com/ip/Driving-Light-Kit/16680058 http://www.etrailer.com/merchant2/graphics/00000001/pics/Q/H/QH-87CD_1000.jpg
  6. I just got back from towing her in. I just picked up a clone 84 Blonde for $500. 64K and a full bling bagger! The original owner 85 years old decided he could still ride it. Took it down the driveway pushed to the left & rolled on the gas and look off! Only to drop her 2 seconds later. Miraculously he is ok, but the bike was trashed on the left side. She has EVERYTHING. Tow package, rear lights, chrome exhaust downtips, lighted front fender chrome tip, Chrome lighted air dam, PERFECT blonde trunk, NEW battery, good tires, driver's backrest, stainless GPS ball studs, intercom cables new rotors & calipers...and the list goes on & on. NOW I have everything to turn Bernice into a full dresser!
  7. Skid

    Whoopee!

    MORE CHROME!
  8. Susan found this for me today on ebay, and I figured I better run it by you fellers before buying it. There is precious little info like dimensions, etc. but the price is right, and it is stainless, so no issue with cheap chrome. I'd rather have the Yamaha part, but they are pretty $$$pendy... I DO know the dimensions, by the way, and it looks like it should fit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/260936394379?item=260936394379&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123&vxp=mtr#ht_4044wt_1185 Thanks for your time. Bert
  9. Just wondering, has anyone mounted their stebel or bad boy horns in the left side leg fairing? I looked at the right side where the chrome horn is, but mine came off a previous bike and is not the fancy chrome unit. Dont want to spend the bucks for one either. So I pulled the left lower apart to see if maybe I can shoe horn it in there. Looks like I might have to trim a bit of the black plastic trim piece but we shall see.
  10. I remember Bongobob telling me that they were rare. I guess that was an understatement! I thought about it but it wasn't worth it to me. Maybe because my bike already has the chrome vents and I was thinking that this might be good for a back up set. Oddly enough two different sets showed up on Ebay at the same time. The other set was pretty banged up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/230728628260?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2649
  11. It's a bit early in Wisconsin to be thinking about getting back out on the bike, but here I am trying to figure out what I can do to it, for it and with it. My question is this... What is the next best addition (or two ) I can make to my bike in the way of both performance and also safety chrome. Below is what I've done so far: Performance - K&N filters Road King exhaust (completely open) Re-jetted with larger jets and carbs balanced Elite 3 tires front and back Rick Butler Seat Mod Safety Chrome - Fender Chrome Saddle bag rails Saddle bag trim (top of bag) Passing lights Flanders bars Kuryakyn ISO grips Kuryakyn highway pegs I'm looking for the NEXT BIG THING. I love working on the bike and making it more interesting and fun and of course, my own. Any ideas would be great and pictures of your mods would be wonderful. Let's get those ideas out there and keep 'em coming. It's time we all start thinking about spending some money!!!
  12. Hey Yammer, Christmas is getting closer, and if Leslie need some ideas for what to buy me again this year. Let me help you out! Some nice Smooth Chrome Master Cylinder Covers (STR-4NK18-10-01) or Chrome Billet Fuel Tank Mount (STR-1D627-09-01) would look great on my Midnight. Just saying......
  13. I've been thinking of how to use the approx 1 inch square SS bathroom towel rack tube for my rear light bar. I have 3 Custom Dynamic LED lights. 2 amber directioinal and 1 sequental (Back and forth) stop. Each are about 3/4 inch in with and 4 to 5 inches in length. I'd like input into drilling into the chrome trunk rack. That is from the rear of the VR looking at the back end of the chrome rack, just underneath the bottom of the trunk. I'm mainly concerned with the possibility of the chrome pealing off. I could drill three holes, one near each end and one in the middle of the towel rack and corresponding holes into the chrome trunk rack. The hole in the towel rack would need to be just large enough to put a SS screw and a screwdriver into it. With the SS towel rack mounted, I would then from the bottom of the towel rack and in the center drill another hole to accommodate 6 wires for the LED lights to be routed out of the towel rack and connected to the VR under the seat. The LED wires are about the size of telephone wires. I could feed the wires for each light in through the 3 outside holes and the three LED lights have double sided 3M tape. Each light would then mount centered covering the holes. I could not find any square plastic plugs to put into the ends, but did find some round ones. I'm pretty sure I can make it fit. The circular cap covers the end except the oh so small part of the 4 square corners, of which I have some black silicone glue. Maybe I could put some sort of metal bonding waterproof glue to keep moisture from getting under the chrome where the hole is drilled. Have any suggestions? Also I'm wondering about the drilling process into the chrome trunk rack. That is how to prevent pealing during the drilling process. I know that the location is ok, further back would be a little better, however the rear part of the trunk rack does jet out from the rear trunk bolt location and the 1 inch towel rack does bring it out that much farther. Then the observers behind me are a good distance away so it would be pretty much eye level. The turn signals providing directional signals are very eye catching and the stop lamp will be like the Sequential light like in the show Knight Rider. The center red light will sequential back and forth when the brakes are applied. All the light movements are very eye catchy and hard to ignore. The movements of the lights seems to draw the eye balls.
  14. Do you have any of these items collecting dust ? I'd be interested in helping you clean out the parts bin. Looking for chrome parts to dress up a 2008 RSV trike. Also looking for mic-mutes (4) Buddy Rich cable (1) Lower Wind Deflectors, chrome rear fender tips
  15. Was wondering if anyone has installed a chrome side lid protector of a Royale Star onto a Venture Royale?
  16. Hello Riders Looking for the chrome cover to the driving light bar on the front as well as a light bar spacer. I emailed the contact listed on the site for the spacer, never responded to my inquiry. My scoot was missing the U-shaped chrome cover (Yamaha does not have this single itme available) and I would like to also install the spacer to make it easier to access/cowling removal. Any out there looking for sell or move these items?
  17. Is it normal for the chrome to go south on these tips? When I was in the bike buying process I looked at two different bikes with less than 10k on them, one had bought spares already to replace the ones on his bike and the second bike had flaky chrome tips. I bought a bike with 20k and the tips looked great until I went to turn the tips the other day and realized the bottom side had flaky chrome. So as I asked is this normal or is there some way to protect them. I was thinking of taking them off and sanding the chrome off and painting them with heat resistant crinkle black paint. I have also found new on ebay for $69. Talk to me boys and girls.
  18. Just about finished with the deburring, sanding and polishing/buffing of the lower fork legs, the 4 beer cans and the lower tree. What a job!! Grinding all the casting marks off of the lower tree and lower fork legs, sanding with 220, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, and 1500 paper. Its a hell of a lot of work, especially since I did most of the finish sanding by hand. No wonder shops charge what they do for polish or chrome work. Its a killer. All thats left to polish is the nooks and crannies on the legs and a final buff with white rouge. I used the tripoli rouge today along with a bench top buffer. The difference from the stock, grungy, pitted lower fork legs and now is night and day. Cant wait to get the final buff done. It looks like chrome already. Tomorrow, if im up to it, ill finish the final polish and then ill post some pics. Also plan to polish up the front and rear floorboards and sand the chrome off of the pitted Barons fork bullet covers and buff them too. Maybe if im feeling energetic ill do the front wheel as well. Maybe even the R1 brake calipers too.
  19. Tom

    Protect All

At the Cody Intl Rally I won a can of Protect All cleaner and polish. This stuff is FANTASTIC! I ordered 2 gallons of it. It also makes my chrome wheels VERY SHINY! Thanks for whoever got this stuff to give away.
  20. OK, I've got the fairing almost all put back together, but...that chrome molding I was warned about isn't behaving...I think. When I get it in, the ends and bottom are flush against the fairing, but the top is about an eighth of an inch away from the windshield. Well actually the center is about a sixteenth but the part between the center and the ends is about an eighth away. I've checked as I have installed it and I can see the tabs going into their slots, but the molding still doesn't sit flush against the windshield. Anyone know what I may doing wrong? According to the write up in another thread there should be no gap between the molding and the windshield. If the tabs are going where they should, what is messing up? Anyone? Andy
  21. Ok, on a 2008 Venture, how much is involved in removing the fairing cover? I have seen the allen head bolts around the inside...do I have to remove the chrome trim on the front? The windshield? If so, how is that done? Thanks!
  22. Ok,for anybody within reach of North Central Pennsylvania,I stopped at on of my favorite haunts for motorcycle stuff,Larry's Cycles,a long time Yamaha and Harley Dealer. Here is an inventory as best that I can remember from this afternoon. For !st gen owners: rectangular driving light set[main parts room],chrome fairing trim,2 sets of chrome seat mounts[not sure which seat].These will be found in a cardboard box in the middle of the floor in the western most used bike room.Just root around.{also some NOS V-Max trim}.In the main Yamaha acessory room,4 sets carb covers+1set for"96-'98,2 chrome center covers to match battery side covers,1 set rotor covers,1 set rear wheel chrome covers,2 sets master cyl covers, driving light mount bars, old style saddle bag lid protectors[i think there was 1 set for 1st gen also] and I'm already starting to forget, but I'm sure everyone gets the idea. And there was 2 Royalstar riding jackets in sizes XL and M.I am not a shill for Larry's,just want to help anybody looking for hard to find items. They are located on Pa route 6,west of Galeton about 4 or 5 miles.Good luck and happy hunting,Herb.
  23. A couple of items for the '86 I just picked up. The chrome side covers that sit beside the radiator cover (the triangle ones) and the lower center chrome piece that sits between the bottom of the saddle bags. If any of you 1st genners have these in decent condition let me kn ow as I would rather give my money to one of our own rather than a faceless ebay seller (although I'm sure they are nice folks too)
  24. I have a '84 Venture Royal with all the chrome and lights. A lot of the chrome(especially behind the rear tire) is pitted and can't be saved. To add to that, it has a bunch of lights attached to it, which are also pitted. I'm not really "big" into chrome and I just want to take it all off. My problem/question is... how can I, or what is the best way to remove the lights without screwing up the wiring? Thanks for any help.
  25. tracing donw my excess heat problem i noticed the chrome covering on the exhaust header on the right rear pipe lacks 2 1/8 inches coming to the motor so you see and feel that much pipe is there some way to move the chrome sheild closer to the motor of am i missing a short piece
