  1. For those of you who didn't see my first post. I bought an 83 first gen about a month ago for about 1000 dollars. While the bike ran it needed some TLC and thus the low price. After re-connecting all the wires going to the various sensors and fixing the problems that set off all the warnings the previous owners didn't want to bother with I was finally able to move on to the plastic. The pictures I'll be posting will show the before paint and after paint but not before the repair work was done. (Mostly because I forgot to take pictures of the all the damage before I started.) I got it all put back together about a week ago, (after about 3 weeks of having it torn apart) and today was able to take it on a local ride (Ride for the Fallen (soldiers)) that was 120miles long. The ride was great and there were over 200 bikes that participated. The only hiccup was a storm that decided to rain on us for a min (and if you were lucky like me and Utadventure hail on us too) but it was only for a few min and then everything cleared up. So in the end I'm thinking of getting a licence plate that says 'Stark' or some such to go with the paint scheme (even though that wasn't what I had in mind when I picked out the colors.) http://s739.photobucket.com/albums/xx33/shtrdthrd/Iron%20Man%20Paint%20Job/ Edit: Not sure why the link doesn't go to the paint album. Just click on the album "Iron Man Paint Job"
  2. Help Please ! This has probably been discussed but I couldn't find it. I'm looking for an air temperature gauge for the bike. I remember a long time ago someone had a neat little digital that was fairly inexpensive. Thanks -
  3. www.crankyape.com Just thought I'd throw this out there. I have a relative that purchased a boat about a year ago from this website. They have motorcycles, campers, etc.
  4. Just thought I'd mention this.... With the Euro falling like a rock against the dollar you can get a Carbtune and storage case shipped to your door for around $75.00. I think I paid about $115 bucks when I bought mine a couple of years ago. Good company to do biz with... Ooops, my bad. That's for the 2 column. The 4 will run about $85US. Still a deal...
  5. 5 years ago my wife and I both owned vmaxes. Our riding styles changed, we do more touring. I traded mine in for a rstd, several years ago my wife went to an 1100 v-star. Well today she traded for a 09 rstd. She's really happy right now, got to go Mark
  6. just got back from my bike insp.........tech says 5/32 tread on the front....9/32 on the rear.....these are new e3's installed 300 miles ago.........no way, right ?....i got 13,000 + on the original 404's......
  7. I had emailed Mustang some months ago to ask about a seat for our 2nd Gen RSV's. What I got back had a tone to it of "we don't offer it and don't want to so don't bother us". Today I got the following email from them... "Venture Owners, Mustang management has decided to offer replacement seats for the Yamaha Venture to answer the demands of our customers. The decision was made only a short time ago, and only one prototype seat has been tried so far. We are still refining the seat and hope to start production before Summer 2010. There will be four separate seats offered. All will be two-person, one-piece seats. Two with chrome studs, two plain, two with built-in driver backrests and two without. We are not yet making seats and are not taking advanced orders for Venture seats. You have received this message because you have asked about Venture seats in the past. You will continue to receive periodic updates from this office whenever new information becomes available. We are not attaching any pictures of the one prototype seat at this time because that design is being changed. As soon as any pictures are made available, you will receive them. Thanks for your interest in our products and for your patience as we develop a comfortable touring seat for your bike. Ike Customer Service"
  8. Well i guess i will start with some good news some of you may have read a few weeks ago my better half had fallen on some ice and broke her ankle. after i posted this story on here about the accident and her not having insureance you guys gave me some great advice and after alot of red tape and paper work we found the right program for us to resolve this problem.. 2 weeks ago during some intence training for the national guard getting ready for my up-coming deployment i tore my rotator cuff so now we are both kinda leaning on each other just to make diner (not that i mind) i love being close to her. but the bad news is im 3 years from retireing from the army... this may make it sooner if i cant get this fixed to "army standard" and im getting those feelings of letting my soldiers down i dont think im going to be able to deploy with them due to this injury. My doc says the recovery time and theropy is about a 9 month progress but as of now im non-deployable... so thats how my year has started off hope everyone else's is going better. Ron P.S. Yammer Dan I told Kelli what you said about doing what the doctor said or YOU would be coming after her.. she said ok and sat on the couch and propped up her ankle lol she dont listen to me like that?????
  9. Hannigan is having a $1000.00 Discount Off there Trike Kits Until Feb 1st **HURRY* I was one year ago today when I ordered my kit, http://www.hannigantrikes.com/
  10. Hey folks. Just wanted to show off my (only) daughter and her new husband - not that she has an old one. Married in Tasmania 3 weeks ago today. Of course good ol' Dad is asked to do the photos - again. That's all 3 kids married off now. Isn't she beautiful? (Proud and biased Dad!!)
  11. Greetings and commiseratons to all you northern-hemisphere type people. At 5:47pm my time today (less than 5 hours ago) I was still outside in the yard doing things around the house. Didn't come inside until 8pm (just over 2 hours ago) when it was still daylight. Yep - today was the summer solstice for me. Sunrise was at 5:55am and sunset was 8:11pm. A whole 14 hours and 16 minutes of daylight. So where does the 5:47pm become significant? That's when old mother Earth went to the maximum on the old axis tilt and now she's heading back the other way. (You know - I swear I felt that slight hesitation, right at that time!) Now the days will be getting shorter for me, and getting longer for you. We had a fairly cool day today. It only got to 32degC (90degF). In six months time it'll be your turn for maximum daylight.
  12. Things to think about Long ago cursing and beating a stick on the ground was called witchcraft.......now it is called golf. Eventually you will reach a point where you will stop lying about your age and start bragging about it. The older we get the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for. Some people try to turn back their "age odometers". Not me, I want people to know why I look the way I do. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved. How old would you be if you did not know how old you are? When you are dissatisfied with your current age and want to go back to your youth, just think of algebra. You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks. One of the many things people don't tell you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young. One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been. Being young is beautiful but being old is comfortable. Old age is when former classmates are so grey and wrinkled and bald that they don't recognize you.
  13. Annie, me and Dan received the nice package today. Thanks so much. It was really sweet of you to send it. Actually it went to Dans house and he called me up a few minutes ago. I should get to see it tomorrow.
  14. Today i put the tci from my 93 into my 90 started right way so that was the problem sure a pain to do but now both will be on top of the airbox. Mine acted up for years it had a burp but then lately is been getting worse finally 3 weeks ago it quite for good. now well ride it like we stole it. Is there someone out there that repairs them, would like to get that bad one fixed... THANKS YOOPER
  15. Many years ago I refinished old/collectable furniture but it's almost impossible to find someone to strip the old finishes off anymore because of the toxic waste. 10 years or so ago I started building rustic furniture for resale and have continued because I enjoy creating different pieces. I also have a habit of waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning so I go out to the shop and make some saw dust. Attached is the piece I finished this morning, all poplar wood with the exception of a couple resawn oak panels in the doors. It's a 2 piece unit so I can handle it by myself.
  16. Hi everyone, glad to be here, this looks like a great site. I have been riding for over 40 years (showing my age) and have pretty much done it all...street, motocross, trials and ice racing. Now I just ride for enjoyment. The mind would still like to compete but the body refuses. I recently purchased a 1996 Royal Star in excellent condition with 40,000 km. The only thing I changed was made a taller windshield to stop helmet buffetting and replaced the leather saddlebags with a set of leatherlyke bags I got off Kijiji. I like to keep my bikes basic which was the appeal of the RS. Will probably add a tach at some time but that's about it. I have also owned an '85 Venture Royale that I sold a few bikes ago. Great bike but I can only afford one at a time and there are so many bikes and so little time. I plan on keeping the RS for quite awhile. I am quite frugal (some would say cheap) and like to tinker so a lot of the things on my bike are homemade or adapted from other parts. I look forward to participating on this forum and meeting many of the members in writing or in-person. Doug
  17. Headed to Townsend TN. from Gulfport, MS. Wed. Oct 7th. Will be staying at Riverstone Lodge through Sunday the 11th. Anyone interested in riding along or a M&E in the area let us know. Right now there are three bikes going, same group that went to Arkansas rally with me a month ago. Man I can't wait!!
  18. Just picked up (about a month ago) an 05 Midnight RSV and am LOVING IT!. My first bike was a Yamaha Roadstar Silverado. I bought it about 4 years ago and put on about 35000KM. Took a RSV out on a test ride at Americade last year and got the bug. In the last two weeks or so it has started to back fire when down shifting and when starting cold the choke doesn't always "catch". I have to rev the throttle a little for the choke to catch. I am thinking I need to get the carbs synced but not sure. There is also a gasoline smell when I shut her down or go to start her up....

Today is September 11! Lets not forget the man and women who died 8 years ago in a atrocious and unprovoked attack on our nation.
  20. A few days ago I emailed back and forth with one of our newer members, ProudDad (Barry) from White Pigeon Michigan. Since we are only about a half-days ride from White Pigeon, I told him that if he was ever in our area to look us up. Last evening we went to a friend's house about 8 miles from home for a bonfire. One of those "Just sit around and chat" evenings. Not sure what time it was but my phone rang....didn't recognize the incoming number....and it was ProudDad calling from the convenience store 2 blocks from my house! They had the day off and just started riding, ended up down here. So I gave him directions to our bonfire and they rode on out and joined us. What GREAT folks! Barry and his sweetie Julie were just the most "real" down to earth people you could expect to meet. Just got their bike a few weeks ago and still getting to know it and enjoying riding together after raising the family (kinda like a lot of us here). We sat around the bonfire for awhile talking, then went in the house and played some cards. OH...I should say that the friends whose house we invaded are riders (Vulcan 2000) but not VR members even though they've been on a couple VR events with me. Long story short, Barry and Julie ended up staying overnight with my friends. No need to pay for a motel when among friends, right? Then this morning we met them for breakfast, came back to the house and did some minor adjustments on the air levels in the shocks and talked over some other maintenance things. Barry and I switched bikes and went for a short ride.....my wife says our bikes are "Fraternal twins"....same colors but different color patterns. Barry and Julie left at 11:15 headed north. Just talked to him awhile ago and they were 40 miles from home after having ridden in rain most of the way. This has been an enjoyable experience.....those of you in lower Michigan/Northern Indiana, I have some advice for you. Look up Barry and Julie, introduce yourselves and get to know them. They'll enrich your lives! I've attached some pix so you can recognize them when you see them.
  21. Putting my 83 back together yesterday was going quite well. When trying to start it, the positive cable started smoking. Upon closer inspection, I could see it needed replacing some time ago. Any idea where to get one with the main fuse cord and all that??
  22. Havent gotten around in getting a tri-pod yet The clouds just cleared up and I took this photo 5 minutes ago with the help of the members suggestions
  23. I recently got a Carbon One lift adapter ( love it ) and was wandering which lift was the most popular and why. I have a Sears lift that I bought a LONG time ago. I think I paid around $50 for it and it has served me very well. I initially purchased the lift for my GoldWing trike, worked well.
  24. Ok folks: You guys (n gals) are amazing and have helped me so much. Here we go again. Sometimes when downshifting it skips second and goes right to neutral from 3rd. Not all the time and seems to work more often than not but I believe it is getting worse. I know someone here will be able to tell me what the problem is. I don't have 2nd popping out on acceleration. Upshifting is smooth and never misses a beat. A few weeks ago I had to take the clutch cover off and have a look at the thingy with the pins. A couple of them were loose so I fixed that and all was good. Any ideas? HELP?? Wayne
  25. Changed the oil and final fluid today. Checked the air filter. Plugs are burning clean and still within gap tolerance. Synced carbs just a few weeks ago. New tires were put on 12 months/12,000 miles ago and driveshaft was greased good. Coolant level is good. Me thinks I am good to go. Anything else to check?
