  1. After two years of non-use, sitting under a low end cycle cover, resting on a shale driveway, my new to me Blue 89 Vr is back in service. Thanks go to Earl (skydoc) for doing his part to make the bike safe to ride once again. We started with a small list of work needed and will again add to it in the near future. Earl replaced both F/R tires, rebuilt rear caliper, changed rear gear oil, lubed the very dry splines, and checked the bike over for state inspection. Now I need to log some miles on the VR, blow the cob webs out, and get it back to Earl for a carb sync. and other adjustments. Earl had taken some pics of the progress (my camera took a dump) maybe he will add a few to this post. For the ones here who say "This thread worthless without Pics" Regards Dave
  2. I have started a thread in the 2nd Gen Tech Library to cross reference non-Yamaha parts that can be used to save money over the expensive factory items. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=362525#post362525]Parts Alternatives - VentureRider.Org[/ame] I only have a couple of items so far, but I will add more when I find them. If you know of any parts that should be in theis list, please send me a message or post that info here. Thanx! Goose
  3. My plan is to add 2 amber led's on the front guard and 2 red led's on the reat guard. My intent is to replace the reflectors that are there now. The question is - Can I safely connect the led's to the existing light relay that I installed for my passing/driving lights so that they will be energized with the ign. switch ?? btw - it's a 30 amp light relay and it's powered from the aux/cigarette lighter and it is fused.
  4. Well since so many want to go back to Asheville I'll go ahead and set up a shorter version. I decided on July 10, 11, 12. This way it's a weekend and not too long for those that are planning on going to the other events this summer. I'll get around to calling the KOA and the motel once I see how many folks are interested in this. So please let me know I'll add it to the calendar. So folks let me know whose interested. Now just because I said fri, sat, and sun doesn't mean you can't show up earlier. If you do we'll get you in touch with folks in the area so you can get around and see some sites. Margaret
  5. I was just thrown into the 21st century on fathers day when my kids got me an MP3 player. Now I want to add a mini jack to my existing stock audio system so I can listen to the MP3 player or even plug a Garmin GPS to it. This would be on a 1st Gen an 86 VR. I have the stock wiring out of the standard maintenance manual, but has anyone spliced into the wiring to add a mini jack? and where did you connect it ? I want to be able to use the intercom and CB while listening to the MP3. I thought I read that someone gutted their cassette player and wired a MP3 player through it, but couldn't find the post as I searched through the post on MP3 players and audio. Did he wire right into the wiring? That's what I am looking to do. I don't want to upgrade the player, I have a FM modulator but too many cords and hate changing the stations when you leave or go into a different area. I think the best option would be to add a mini jack.
  6. WHAT IS THE BEST L.E.D. kit to add to my Venture????
  7. Hey Don, I am sure we had a New post button on the home page but I do not see it anymore, is it possible to add one ? Maybe there was never one there but it looks like it could fit in there real easy Thanks Brad
  8. I am wondering if it is possible to take the taillight and add reflective material inside the light housing and if possible would it make the light appear brighter to people following me?? Any thoughts? Don H.
  9. Finally...I got some pictures posted of the bike-to-trike project. I'll add to the album as the project progresses.
  10. Just curious; has anyone installed LED accent lights on your lst Edition VR? If so, how many and the color did you add? Also where did you add the accent lights and are they connected directly to the battery or???? I am considering such an install but ask for opinions and advise, if there are any. The bike is pretty close to being in original condition and thought this accessory might add style and or improve visibility. B/r
  11. and without mentioning any names.......you will know who u are.......thank you for talking with me tonight and helping me to better understand things. I cried after we hung up, not sure why but it released a lot of stress. You helped more than u know and in the end it has made me feel better about our decision as to what to do. I really think i can be at peace about it now. maybe ill send u a pretty thong to add to your collection to show my appreciation...

    Album

For those who are interested, I finally got an album started of the bike-to-trike project pictures. I'll add to it as I make more progress.
  14. I Have an 85 G1 and have purchased a hitch from ebay for what I thought was a reasonable price. BUT its only reasonable if it fits. I dont want to pull a trailer with it, but i do want to add a cooler rack from Rivco. Can someone have a look and tell if this will work or not as I dont have the rear bumper light bar on my bike. I think I may have to add a couple of stabilizing bars from the hitch up to the frame of the bike behind the side bags. Hers the link http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270324374389 Thanks in advance for the input! Brian oops!!! sorry the link doesnt work i will hafta take a new pic and repost!
  15. Another fantastic member has stepped up and donated a couple of items for auction. These are going to be collectors items if they arent already. These are brand new, 2nd and 3rd printing, never out of the bag. I will be listing each one in its own auction, so if your a comic book collector you might want to add these to your collection. The donor is to remain unknown by request. So "unkown", thank you very very much for helping the Kids at St.Jude Children's Hospital.........
  16. I was told that the hitch will add about 6" to the lencth of the toungue Did anybody cut it back or is longer better? Also, Am I opening a can of worms asking it this way?
  17. I have not seen this until today.. Kinda Neat. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=99887 Here is the pdf user manual. http://www.harborfreight.com/manuals/99000-99999/99887.pdf Look as if you can also add the adapter as well. 1100 pound maximum lift capacity Only $11.99 to ship... Ummm Jeff
  18. I check my oil about once a week when I am just riding around locally and daily when I'm on a long trip. I've never had to add oil on either of my RSVs or my Vstar 1100. It never moves off the mark. I was just wondering if anyone ever has to add oil between oil changes? DT
  19. It's kind of a pain to add oil by removing the 2 covers and then the oil cap to add oil. I'm thinking of eliminating the cap (or drilling a hole in it) and running a funneled hose outside the covers. But it has to look decent. Has anyone done something like this? Maybe I should change to nickname to Mr. Mod?
  20. How do you add picture to your gallery?
  21. So far I've made 125 of these... 1st Generation mostly, but some apply to all models: Replace bolts on muffler clamps & use anti-seize compound before they freeze up Do the starter internal ground, another post. May not need heavier battery cables. Add a ground wire directly from the starter to the negative battery terminal or main ground wire Add gauges if unsure of reliability, most on Ebay are Oil pressure, oil temp, Amp meter, indicator LED lights to remind if accessories are on/off An external oil plug is on the engine right side with large socket allen screw/plug between water pump and clutch covers down low center engine. Shorten the throw on clutch lever by making a shorter push rod Shorten the brake lever throw by removing the return spring (remove 10mm bolt to see) Clean battery and grounds regularly Super glue any plastic cracks, also stops further cracking. Do not over tighten any screws on plastic Install foot guards for rain & cold air (MK1's) Always put bolts/screws back in with grease/oil on threads to prevent corrusion Put a guard around the mirrors in case you drop the bike Replace any frequently removed nut/bolts/screws with all the same kind to reduce tools and time servicing. Use a socket screwdriver rather than a wrench/rachet, it is faster & you don't over tighten. Put a mud guard around the rectifier/regulator, but leave it open to air Eliminate both/either fairing pockets (Std models) this adds 50% more room. Use insulation to fill in holes. Rubber around mirrors to protect them Make sure the air filter is tight (not rattling) in housing The weather stripping on the bottom goes bad with age Further explanations are available via PM's. Happy fixes!!!
  22. And it is Will any kids over the age of 40 be attending????? :rotfl:
  23. Looks like this might be a nice option for anybody without a stereo that wishes to add one. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-radio/jensen-jhd910-radio/
  24. 1 cup of water 1 tsp baking soda 1 cup of sugar 1 tsp salt 1 cup of brown sugar 4 large eggs 1 cup nuts 2 cups of dried fruit 1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one peastoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still ok, try another cup just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the frigging fruit off the floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaters just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who geeves a sheet. Check the Jose Cuervo. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the wishdasher. Cherry Mistmas !
  25. All 1st Edition owners need to take a look at the various parts I have listed in the Classified section. I was in too much of a hurry when entering the add the first time and have now updated with prices. All prices are negotiable. Will need the room for parts storage for my new Harley. Thanks
