Don I hope you get to feeling better soon. It may have been a coincidence but the last time I got a flu shot about 10yrs ago that winter I seemed to catch about everything that came along including the symptoms you described. I haven't had a flu shot since and haven't had a winter like that since. I haven't heard of any research on this but it is my theory that the flu shot has some weakening effect on the immune system or has some desensifying effect on responding to anything but the flu. I could be completely wrong also. In any case take care of yourself, drink lots of fluids and get much rest.

Well done! A masterpiece showing the price of freedom that we all enjoy.

Our power went out Sunday night and came back up Wednesday evening. We have gas water heater and gas stove so we had hot water and hot food. I hooked up the generator so we heat, lights and could watch movies on tv but the cable was down so we couldn't watch cable. I have been feeling greatful to have what many in this storm haven't and many still don't. My inlaws stayed for about 3 days as their power in Drumright was out until yesterday evening. My mother is still staying w\ us because her service is still down and we are trying to get an electrician to fix the weather pole @ the house before the utility company will patch service to the house. May be a few more days. I have never seen such widespread devistation to trees and powerlines and houses that trees have fallen on. It is the worst power outage in Oklahoma history. It looks a lot like the damage from a tornado. I pray that fellow ice storm survivors are safe and if power is not restored that it will be soon. If there is anything I can do let me know. Thanks for all the concerned fellow ventureriders members sentiments. Babye!

That is right. I have a hitchdock on my 03. I don't have the instructions any more and I can't remember if the top 4 bolts have to be longer or just two of them. As mentioned earlier if you contact hitchdock they could tell you or send instructions. They may even be accessed on their sight. I think someone did a tech article with pictures on this sight before the crash of 06 or maybe I dreamed it. I'm sorry I'm not more helpful. It I locate my old instructions I will let you know.

You beat me to the punch. My clingon as you put it has had to bail me out more than once. A reverse on these bikes would make it the perfect touring bike. I'm thinking of designing one one of these days that would also adapt to other bikes. It is all in my head at this point like all the voices I hear.

Starriders doesn't care what brand of motorcycle you ride. My chapter141 in Tulsa has all kinds of bikes. They must of told you that because they just don't like you!

Thanks guys for the responses and words of encouragement. The instructions and the studies that Chantix describes said as much but I always like to bounce it off people that are or have been in a similar circumstance. I think I will continue the meds for at least another 90 days. It is going so well I don't want to screw it up now.

Ditto Not only backing but limited turn radius. The 40 mile per hr max speed is only an issue if you are hauling the maximum wt. capacity for a particular tire. They would be way under tire capacity hauling a motorcycle so hwy speeds wouldn't be a problem. I don't see the point of this design unless you were towing it behind a vehicle that was close to maximum approved length by DOT. A free standing platform that was supported by the rearend and suspension of a vehicle would be a practical but improbable due to the amount of stress on it albeit strong enough to support a motorcycle. If accomplished the weight of the mechanism would be astronomical and very few vehicles could support the added weight of a motorcycle let alone the weight of the platform especially that far back from rear suspension. Just thinking outloud. I'm glad I don't write down everything I think!

Yamaha has recently built a 3oo hp motor for a Volvo sport sedan. I can't remember the exact model. The HO motors for Ford. They are no strangers to designing automobile motors.

Ditto with one addition. The Harley riders that really have the attitude are the Yuppie weekend warriors. I have no problem with weekend warriors. What ever floats your boat. I do see the hilarity of the wannabe act that the attitude is a big part of it. I have been insulted very rarely by real motorcycle riders and enthusiasts. It is usually people that have never owned or ridden a motorcycle in their life and have joined in on the propaganda of the marketing campaigns or opinions of weekend warriors. I have never needed the approval of others or joined any group or crowd to be popular or accepted. I think the need to be accepted or try to be popular is the driving force behind this mania. The marketers strategies are designed to focus on this pathology to boost sales of whatever they are selling. So many people these days are driven by labels, clothing being one of them. For instance I could buy Levi jeans but I prefer Arizona jeans from JCpenney at half the cost or less than that on sale and the actually seem to last longer and fit just as well. I guess my Venture is a version of the Arizona jeans vs Levi.

This is my 6th day w/out cigarettes Yahoo!!! I'm on my last wk. of a months supply of Chantix. I'm debating on whether to refill the subscription for a continuation of use. Any pros or cons would be appreciated. I think I am well passed the physical withdrawal and I am shocked at how few desires to smoke have occurred. I think I am well on my way to being smoke free. I have never contacted the help line offered by Chantix. Has anyone called them or are there tips or words of wisdom from their help and support that is worthwhile? Will be looking forward to hearing from the rest of you regarding your continued success, struggles, slips, experiences while seeking to be smoke free. Babye!

Interesting marketing strategy. Talking about sticking it to the man. It's ironic that much of their success has been fueled by the man or Yuppies up to their kneck in the establishment. Harley is as establishment & capitalistic as any american corporation. Seems pretty hipocritical to me. It's actually pretty humorous to me that they play to the so called nonconformists and the nonconformists and individuals are all doing the same things, wearing the same clothes, riding the same bikes, an oxymoron if you know what I mean. We all do it this Venturerider sight is a testament of that and it's not a bad thing unless you try to pretend to be a non conformist and a rebel but hang with tens of thousands of others that think, act, dress alike and if you don't ride the same machine you aint s@#$t. I have nothing against Harley and if you ride a Harley more power to you. I know it is just marketing strategies and they are marketing geniuses. They do resonate with the afore mentioned crowd and they pretend to be the only American made motorcycle. The only true American made motorcycle is Honda. The factory is here and assembled here. About 40% of Harley is Japanese, Canadian, and Chinese parts. There is a town in Japan that adopted the name Usa which was a strategy for Harley to claim the parts that come from this vender is made in USA. Most if not all of their shock components come from Usa Japan. I know these are fighting words for die hard Harley riders and I don't mean to affend but the truth is the truth and I get sick & tired of this riding the legend crap and otherwise intelligent people buying into the lie. I say ride what you like and like what you ride. Life is too short to quibble about which ride is the best and other superficialities. Not talking about the good natured ribbing that goes on in this sight between members, friends, etc. Just enjoy each ride as if it is your last because @ some point in the future it will be. I've probably said enough and for some I've said too much. BaBye!

My Audio got a new brain
James Ardrey replied to James Ardrey's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I do alot of my own work also, but when it comes to warranty work you don't have a choice. Phil is probably even more passionate about mc safety as he was teeboned by an elderly person about 3 to 4 yrs ago . He lost quite a bit of mobility in his hands and arms. He was a great motorcycle engine performance machinist and there was some question whether he would be able to continue. I saw him @ the dealership so I think he is doing machine work again. He has his own shop in the back. I saw Paul Brinker at an after party chili feed for the Drumright///Cushing toy run about 3 wks ago. I have known Paul for a number of years and he is a great guy. I'm not familiar with the town your from in Oklahoma and I'm terrible w\ names so I've already forgot it. Maybe we can meet somewhere and do a ride somewhere to eat or something like that. Those of you trying to keep up with my post this is the 2nd time I've tried to respond. I tried to respond off of a quote and it wouldn' let me submit. BaBye! -
My audio system started to on it's own cycle through all functions at will especially when vibration was present. engine idle, going down hwy etc. It would work perfectly normal with bike setting and engine off. The Mechanic suggested as has been suggested here to check all connections behind the fairing behind the dash . I did that and I also applied dialectic grease as suggested on posts here. To no avail. I took it to my mechanic @ the dealership & helped him troubleshoot the problem. We noticed that even with the main control pod turned off the sound of the cycling through the speakers was still present. To make a long story short it was deduced that the main brain located behind the top fairing just behind the cassette deck tape slot was the culprit. They ordered it directly from Clarion and it came in in about 1wk. Thank God it is still under warranty because the brain is 1,000 dollars if I had to replace it. I also had the main switch replaced 2 wks ago when they trouble shot the Audio. That is another 3 to 4 hundred expense that I would of had to endure. The Yamaha warranty is awesome. My bike is an 03 as you can tell top of page Duh! No other bike in the world would be under warranty 4 yrs out would cover these problems. I also have about 62,000 miles on my bike. The K&N yamaha dealership service manager just called me ironically as I am doing this post to see if everything is functioning properly. That's service. I have bought all my new bikes from them for these reasons. K&N is the oldest yamaha dealer in the U.S. established 1957. The Head mechanic has been there for 20yrs + and can work on anything. The junior mechanic age 21 just won the top Yamaha mechanic competition for North America by Yamaha Corp. and went to Japan to compete for top mechanic worldwide. Guess where K&N got there name. Norm Mcdonald owner was partner with the k ( I can't recall his name) but they designed the K&N filters many of us use and love. Norm sold out his portion of the company some time back. K&N is in Tulsa, Ok. I apologize for going on and on but with all the bad press some dealerships receive on this sight and the nightmare reports that a positive report might be due.

Ditto what Brad said. I just recently had to have my switch replaced on my 03 because the dash board would be blank @ times and the starter switch would be dead or hesitate. I would have to jiggle the keyed switch a bit sometimes. It was replaced under warranty. The main reason I'm responding to this post is that my dealers mechanic was able to match the new electronics to the old switch and I didn't have to get a new key. That's a plus. If the wd40 doesn't solve the problem and you have to get a new switch check with the mechanic and see if he has the expertise to change out the old electronics and match the new ones with the old key switch. I have never heard anyone on this sight mention this as possible to do. The keyed portion should last forever unless it has been damaged for some reason.

I'm with you. My wife and I prefer to ride alone. We still ride in small groups for a day ride or maybe overnight, but anything beyond that I avoid it like the plague. We had a great overnighter with 4 other couples to the Talimena Drive in Southeastern Ok&Ak. They were very laid back with limited control issues, great sense of humors. It is very rare to find even one other person to ride with that doesn't have a different Idea of when and where to stop and other like interests. It is also hard to relax while riding with a group no matter how their riding style if for no other reason having to pay attention to staying in staggered position and spacing with the bike in front of you. I have had more close calls with traffic in a group than riding alone or two up with my wife.

Have you ever eaten racoon? If you haven't you couldn't possibly know what it tastes like and the same if you have never pulled a trailor behind your bike. And the same goes for trailoring your bike. :stirthepot:I do know what it is like pulling a trailor but limited experience trailoring my bike.

Bike kicked, brackets bent - what is with people today?
James Ardrey replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I'm sorry about what happened to you and your son. I've been fortunate in that regard. I've been coast to coast and only two incidents. One about nine yrs. ago at a motel 6 on hwy 1 in northern Cal. My saddle bags were ransacked on Halloween night. Nothing of value was in the bags as I had those things with me in the rm. I was riding my 97 Rstar @ that time. Another time about 3 yrs ago in a Holiday inn parking lot in Shreveport La someone put chewing gum on the front fender ornament. It's kind of the code of the road in these parts that if you touch another persons bike you get you a#s kicked especially among 1% bikers. At a motorcycle rally in Pawhuska, Ok. a drunk came up running his mouth in friendly fashion and put his hand on a bikers handle bar grip to steady himself and I had to do some fast talking to the owner as he was prepared to kick his butt. I assumed it was that way everywhere or I have just been lucky. I will attest to the moral decay of our society and the lack of respect across the board in all ages of people these days. My wife & I own & operate two day care centers & it is sad the progressive negative changes in children. It is like they are being raised by wolves. Destructive, absolutely no boundaries or respect for elders, each other or themselves. They are checked out like Stepford children or children of the corn. When you try to enlist support from the parents it is many times some one elses fault and little or no consequences for their behavior. The kids seem to be starving for attention and negative attention is better than none I suppose. Sorry about the rant. I could go on & on.
