Actually the change over to watercooled has more to do with meeting the new EPA emission standards. Their current method of increasing engine heat to accomplish this is not practical and will not meet future standards. All bikes will probably have to be water cooled and fuel injected to meet the progressing tougher EPA standards. I think 2011 or 2012 is when the new tougher standards go into effect. Someone else may have the particulars on this.

Looks good to me except I would have to keep riding!

At about 30,000 miles I had the two into one pipes replaced due to exhaust leaks both left and right under warranty. 60,000 + had Audio system brain replaced and the main switch both under warranty. Brake pads replace @ approx. 50,000 miles and on my 5th set of tires. Avon venoms second set. Also replaced the battery last spring. It was still working fine I just felt I was pushing my luck @ 4 yrs. old. Still no problems w\ the notorious mono shock.

I had mine checked at the recommended 26,000 mile interval on my 97 RS and my 03 Venture and they were both in perfect specs. I understand that they are seldom out of adjustment due to the design and I will probably wait until I have at least 100,000 mi. before I check again. You do not have to remove the engine from the frame for this procedure. The engine has to be cold and to have it done is around 200.00 dollars. I only did it on my 03 to avoid voiding the warranty. It has about 65,000 miles on it and it starts and runs great. No signs of valve problems.

Seats for 2nd gen Venture
James Ardrey replied to straight pipe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I love my Corbin and my wife likes it OK. It did require a breakin period of about 3,000 miles. I think I like the Corbin as well as the Mustang I had on my 97 royalstar but my wife still liked the Mustang better. We ride 4 to 600 miles a day while touring and it is no problem. The Sheepskin really helps with a little padding and mostly reduces perspiration and keeps the seat cooler during summer and warmer during the winter. I recommend it regardless what seat you decide on. Good luck! -
Fuse Issue---Lower Faring
James Ardrey replied to Everette's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It sounds like the main switch is going bad. I had the same problem with the dashboard instruments. It was intermittent and became more regular over time. I did not notice the cruise not working but I may not have been using it much at the time. That main switch causes all kinds of weird things. At least it is starting and running and hasn't left you stranded yet. I agree take it to the dealer. That main switch is connected to everything electronic on some level albeit the strange happenings. They changed mine and have had no problems since. Good luck! -

Red was the best. He was my favorite standup comedian. Brings back a lot of memories. I agree with all the other posts. We need more like him. Thanks for the post.

Avon Venom-X MT90B16 won't fit
James Ardrey replied to Trimster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That is exactly right. The mechanic had to do it with my standard tire size due to the flattening from being on it's side and stacked upon. I have always had to do that trick with the Dunlop elite 2's that I used to use exclusively. I use the Avon Venoms now. Your tire people are either inexperienced or don't want to mount a narrower tire than standard. Good luck! -
Don I guess I'm addicted too although I hate to admit it. I've watched it from the first year. It is the only reality show I can stomach though. I think the talent across the board is the best they have ever had. I hate to see any of the rest of them go but that 's how it has to be. I played drums a long time ago and the guitar never felt right and I knew I would suck at it. I still get the urge to pick a guitar up. I was looking at one @ Sam's club yesterday. A fender standard guitar. Maybe in my next life. I don't know when I would have time. I can't stand to not do something at least good and it would drive me crazy until I got good at it. Take care!

Mine are LED's also. Does that mean I'm not a Yuppie? I like the green LED's. I haven't seen very many other bikes with green ones let alone 2nd Gen Ventures.

Looks pretty Yuppie to me!:rotf:Good looking rig though. I bet it has a yuppie price too!

My sister Darlis Nace is the Postmaster in Claude and her husband is Gary and a daughter Lindsey who is going to Texas Tech. Gary is a Texas A&M grad and he wanted her to go there. You Know how those aggies are. I would like to make the Muleshoe rally but it won't be possible. We will have to get together at some point.

My sister lives in Claude, Tx and I make my way out that direction a few times a year especially Holidays and motorcycle treks to Colorado and New Mexico. I will send you an e-mail the next time I'm riding out that way.

She is employing the same strategy as a stripper in a strip club. She may even be a stripper. Not that I would know about such things. It is the sign of the times we live in. May be reading more into this than is there but it seems to be that age old sense of entitlement that is creaping into our society. Rights without the responsibility that goes with them. At least she told you up front what the game was. Of course that is probably part of the game. It has probably worked over and over with some poor lonely middle aged sap that would do almost anything for attention from gals like that.

Starter Button snafu..
James Ardrey replied to brainfart's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Could be the main switch going bad. Mine started with the speedo, fuel gauge going out at times. Then the start switch started doing what you describe although after wiggeling the main switch it would come back on pretty quick. Other times I would hit the starter button two or three times and it would start. The safety cut off switch on the kickstand may be faulty or stuck also. You say that the headlight and running light were at full power or I would check the battery cable. I spent time checking fuses shortly after I bought my bike and then discovered that the battery cable was loose and if you weren't getting any response or lights etc. I would suggest checking that first. Good luck. -
Ditto the mustang seat. I had one on my 97 royalstar and loved it and my wife loved it. I would have one on my 03 mdnt v but they aren't available. I have a corbin and like Don couldn't be more pleased. My wife still says the Mustang is the most comfortable for the back seat. I love them both. I didn't have to break in the Mustang. Good luck.

Definitely the Clearview shield. My wife complained about the same thing including the headaches. I am around your height and I got the tallest and widest and I couldn't be happier with it. It is about 4" wider than the oem and an inch taller. Personally I prefer a shield that comes up just below my eye view but that wouldn't help the buffeting that my wife experiences. I was amazed that even though the clearview is an inch taller than oem I can see over it even better that the oem because of the swept back angle of the cv shield. I have to sit erect to do so just like the oem but it is a plus when the shield is fogged up or in a heavy rain. I also noticed significant improvement in buffeting that I was experiencing with the oem shield. My wife says it has made all the difference. I wish I had done it when I bought it in 03. I also recommend the vent because in the summer time it is hotter because of the increased blocking of the wind. I also got the tented version and the concerns I had about nighttime riding with a tented ws have been put to rest. It is a slight tent and actually reduces glare from street and headlights at night but does not compromise visibility. Just my opinion. You will have to make up your own mind.

New 80 mph wobble
James Ardrey replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Suggested tire pressure on Avon venoms is 50# in back and 40# in front. Correct tire pressure is extremely important with the Avon venoms I understand. That is what I run and have had no problems. -
The two that I know of is: www.cruisingrider.com and www.RoadBikeMag.com Cruising rider has a mixture of metrics, American and European bikes including cruisers and touring bikes. RoadBike as has been mentioned is dedicated to metrics. In a November 2005 issue they had a great write up on the Midnight V and is the main cover picture.
