  1. I was waking up on that morning from a sound slumber in my motorhome which was parked in Amarillo, 9 years ago today when I got the call from a friend wanting to know if I had seen the plasma trails or heard the explosion. I hadnt seen or heard anything I told her...I slept thru it. Turns out that the Shuttle Commander Rick Husband, and his Pilot, Willie McCool, were from Amarillo and Lubbock, and the ship probably began to break up at over 100,000 feet right over these two cities. It disintegrated during re-entry and the debris were scattered all over east Texas. Irony. Well they renamed the Amarillo International Airport to the Rick Husband International Airport in his memory. I'm originally from Amarillo. While I never had the pleasure of meeting Rick, I feel like one of 'us' was lost that day. What were YOU doing when you heard the news? 2. A friend of mine here in Amarillo is looking for a 83-85 Venture stator cooling kit. If you have one and would be willing to part with it or know where we might find one please let me know. Thanks, Dean
  3. We're headed west in a couple of weeks. After stopping in Sikeston, MO we're headed to Abuquerque. Rather than run the interstate we were thinking of following US 412 across Arkansas and Oklahoma and then drop down to Amarillo on US 60. From there we will take I-40 on into NM. My question is 412 a decent road? Anything to see along the way? Dennis
  4. Saw this bike at A&M Cycles in Amarillo. They do a lot of my work. Enjoy.
  5. After reading the recommendations for using the 44K over Seafoam, I bought some off eBay. I bought 10 cans and now I'm awaiting delivery, so if anyone near Amarillo would like to try it, I may have a little left over. $12/can is what I paid for it shipped. Thanks, Forrest.
  6. Spotted this rat bike at A&M Cycles in Amarillo. Enjoy!
  7. Here is the article from the Amarillo paper, bikes down, some riders injured others dead. A grim reminder to stay alert when traveling. James & Anita White have ridden the colorful stretch of highway west of Pueblo, Colo., dozens of times. Friday's trek should have been routine. But the trip ended tragically for the Amarillo couple when someone in their motorcyclist group struck an antelope, setting off a chain reaction that left Anita White and another man dead. The Colorado State Patrol said Jeffrey Parker, 51, of Amarillo, was the lead motorcycle in a pack of nine that was traveling north on Colorado 69 near Westcliffe about 5:30 p.m. Friday, when he hit an antelope. It was one of three that ran into the road and into the path of the cyclists. Parker was rushed to a Pueblo hospital, where he died. The Whites, who were sharing a bike, also were transported from the scene to a hospital. Anita White, 58, died Saturday. James White, 49, suffered injuries that were not life threatening. Jesse Wright, who was riding immediately behind Parker and two bikes ahead of the Whites, said he saw Parker go down after striking the animal. The Whites' bike slid after running through a pool of the animal's blood, then hitting dry pavement. "This was a freak accident," Wright said. All nine riders were from the Amarillo area and members of the Southern Monarchs Motorcycle Club. They were on their way to Buena Vista and Independence, Colo., for a weekend of camping, Wright said. On Tuesday, the answering machine at Southern Cycle, the Amarillo motorcycle shop the Whites co-own, said the business was shut down "until further notice" because of "a death in the family." The Whites had been married 31 years and had been riding motorcycles during all that time, often logging 10,000 to 13,000 miles a year on Harley-Davidson bikes, according to the club.
  8. A buddy of mine had a tire mounted up on his V-Rod for only $10. I just called them up and confirmed that they will mount motorcycle tires for $10 if I take the wheel off. This is an automotive shop and you have to take the wheel off for them, they do not work on motorcycles. I have no affiliation with these folks, just trying to help those of us here in the Panhandle who's tired of getting ripped off for tire mounting services. Dragonslayer in Texas

Had a great time hosting Bob the Drangonslayer here in the Texas Panhandle over the weekend, and also meeting Jack, aka Silver Bullet. I'm sure Bob will post highlights of his journey, but here are a few pics until he can post some of his own. Hes got quite a few stories to tell! He headed out of Amarillo last night around 2200, I'm not sure of the exact time, but he was going to try to make a Saddle Sore run from Amarillo to Atlanta. Hope we hear from him soon!
  10. dragonslayer said he just left las-vegas. so any one who can and would like to, give me a call at 806-674 0800. I know this is not the place for this ,but I have to get it together.before mr. dragonslayer gets to amarillo. thanks jack:bagpipes-emoticon:

    Venture leads the way

Yall would be so proud. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/ride-time/IMG_1176.jpg Went riding with a bunch of buddies Sunday...once again, I was asked to be 'point man'. I took everyone on a short ride around some of the more scenic areas in Amarillo, and led them to the top of this little hill that is northwest of Amarillo. I pulled over at the top, and although its hard to see, my 2007 Venture is at the front. All the other bikes are Harleys. Three ElectraGlides, a Fatboy, a Sportster, and a RoadKing. You can see the Amarillo skyline in the distance. Granted, these guys know I'm good at running 'point', and they know that I'm very familiar with the area. Still, its a hoot when your the only metric rider with a small herd of Harleys following. Kinda fun. I tried to get some video of the ride, but its hard to do when your the one in front, riding solo. Then my camera batteries died. Oh well. First order of the day was a big biker breakfast at a place called Cody's, on the north side of Amarillo. Huge pile of food, and we all just toss in a few dollars to the cook. Then we made a few stops at some watering holes, and ate some free food, including calf fries, at a redneck dive called the Ranch House. All in all, a good time was had by all. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/ride-time/DSCN0937.jpg So...any other Venture riders wanna come along next time?
  12. I know theres a few of you in the Amarillo area that run some M&Es. I'm new the this web club thing, in fact, this is my first message to write. I joined last August I think, and just log on to see what everyones up to. This is an incredible family link all accross the country, RSV, RSTD, Harley, or what ever, everyones a real person.. I like you guys, and sad thing is, Most of you never knew I existed. LOL Well, I would like to join in on a M&E sometime soon, but would need to keep it near this area. Anyone planning one soon?
  13. I have seen several posts concerning dealers not wanting to perform warranty work on bikes they did not sell. My RSV developed a serious coolant leak coming from the radiator. My closest Yamaha dealer is Sharp's in Amarillo. I called their service department and spoke with Mike, there was no discussion concerning where I purchased the bike. Mike knows I did not buy the bike in Amarillo, when I asked when he could get to it he said whenever I got it there. I picked the bike up yesterday with a new radiator in it and Mike thanked me for picking it up so promptly after it was fixed. Just wanted to let folks know Sharp's did me right. I have bought a bike from them in the past and have never had any problem with their service department.
