  1. I just got one from Jerry W,,
  2. Actually I have CDs I want on tape so I can listen to them on the Venture!!
  3. here is a fairly cheap place, where I just ordered my passing lamps. I actually found the mounts on E-bay cheaper, but of course that was for a Venture. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=45&manufacturer_ID=165&product_ID=3111&sblid_name=Star_Yamaha_Accessories_Sealed_Beam_Passing_Lamps_Only___V_Stars__Road_Star_Silverado__Royal_Star_Tour_Classic_Deluxe_for_Yamaha_V_Star_650_Classic&model_id=0 http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=45&manufacturer_ID=165&product_ID=23417&sblid_name=Star_Yamaha_Accessories_Passing_Lamp_Mount___Royal_Star_Tour_Deluxe_for_Yamaha_Royal_Star_Tourer_Deluxe&model_id=41
  4. H1N1 comes around almost every year, and every year it is slightly different. What they are calling swine flu, is also being called the 2009 H1N1 even though it was already around at the end of 08. The current regular flu shot has viri from the previous H1N1 and a few of the other more predominant flu viri from the last few years. The second shot, when it is available will be only for 2009 H1N1. Even if you get both shots, there are types of flu out there that you can catch, but they are usually not as strong as the ones they make the shots for. As far as testing for the flu, it must be done in the first 5 days or they cannot tell which type it is. And the TammiFlu shot to help knock out the Swine flu must be given in the first two days or it probably will not do any good. As far as not being as dangerous to adults, I haven't had anything other than mild colds in the last 10 years, although I have had more colds in the last three years than the previous 7 and I am 52 now, but still I believe my immune system was pretty good. I caught some type of flu this summer. My ex family doctor did not test in the first 5 days so we are not positive of what type of flu. It went into double viral pneumonia and I ended up in the hospital for 14 days, 10 in a coma on a respirator. The doctors at the hospital believe it was the swine flu, but like I said, they are not sure. The doctors there said they have had 4 times the normal cases of flu this year needing hospitalization for pneumonia and 3/4 of them were swine flu. Mary and I both got the regular flu shot already, and will get the Swine Flu shot when available, although odds are I've had it and am immune. But with her being a teacher, and my immune system still recovering from this summer, we are not taking any chances.
  5. They are not the same type of shots there were 15 years ago, the new one use dead viri so you cannot catch the flu from them, the just kick your immune system into making the antibodies.
  6. It is not RF,, had a little of that too, but found the weak ground and fixed it. I decided to order the volume and mic control I posted the link to.. So I order that, passing lamps and mount, the passing lamp spacer, I also decided to order a carbtune. And last week I added a Stebel horn, and Kuyrykan highway pegs. So far it has only cost me $1,800!!!!! Of course $1,200 of that was for the new refrigerator my wife wanted. OK, I wanted it too.
  7. One of the most effective theft deterrents for motorcycles is putting a cover on it. Unlike cars, people put covers on bikes no matter how ratty they are. So crooks, being generally lazy, will often ignore a bike under a cover because they can't see if it is a nice bike or not. On that note I must admit I never cover my bike on a trip I just lock the handle bars, take my stuff inside and hope for the best. I do have a cable lock, but I usually forget to take it with me??
  8. I have very good hearing so the littlest noise can drive me crazy, and and it's not a long drive. Hmm, because the mics are hot, that make sense. Thanks for the input, helped me search the right direction and I found this and think I'm going to try it. It's a bit cheaper then the mic mute. www.chromeworld.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.prodInfo&productID=2635&categoryID=224 It is headset speaker and mic volume control..
  9. The his in my helmet is really starting to bother me. I've noticed it since day one on the bike, if I have my helmet plugged in I get hiss. I like to be plugged in so I can switch to helmet speakers at freeway speeds to hear the stereo. At lower speeds I leave it on speakers. I have the intercom volume at 0, and it doesn't matter if I have the radio going to speakers or helmet there is a hiss. My wife says she hears it too, but she has a physical volume control back there and will just turn it to 0 and it goes away. (If I want to talk to her I tap her on the leg and she turns her volume back up.) But the only way I can get rid of mine is to unplug. Has anyone figured out how to solve this? One thought I have is to find an actual volume control that will plug in between the helmet and the bike, but as of yet I have not found one.
  10. I bought my wife a new computer a couple months ago and it came with a free upgrade to Windows 7. They are shipping me a copy of it this week. So I will be upgrading her computer but not through download.
  11. Not that I had much to start with.. lost 95% of my 401k back when Worldcom when bankrupt and had to start over. But when the stocks started going down, I took out a max loan against my 401K, paid off most my other bills and did some work to my house, and since have been paying myself back with 8% interest. I'm actually doing much better than if I had left it all in there. And by the time the loan is paid back next year, perhaps the market will be better.
  12. Is the passing lamp spacer still available, and if so where and how much?
  13. Sounds to me you may need a new dealer, Cobras don't even come in 15in rim size.
  14. I finally upgraded my horn (thanks to Carbon1's bracket) and added highway pegs. I'm still playing with the adjustments on the pegs.. Right where I would like them they interfere with my air vents, so at the moment I have them just back enough so the vents still work, but I think that they are a little too close there.. I guess I will try them just forward of the vents next. Oh I got the Kuryakyn longhorn offset dually with ISO wing pegs. www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/catID/18/scID/53/IMID/460
  15. depends on just where in Pensacola,, and how far/how much you plan to ride there. Mexico Beach, Port St. Joe and Apalachicola are great places to visit. About 160 miles from downtown Pensacola.. http://www.baynavigator.com/index.cfm http://papajoesoysterbar.com/ here is where locals go for oysters. Boss Oyster is also good, just a little more expensive.
  16. I stopped by Destination Daytona on the way to get a set of highway pegs, missed a turn and spent an hour stuck in traffic. I arrived at First turn a touch after 2pm,, Ruffy and the group was still there, so we got to chat a bit before everyone left. Destination Daytona is way too packed,, they have plenty of room, but the traffic problems aren't worth it.. From now on, if it's not at the track, I don't need to see it.
  17. It doesn't really show your age unless you know the difference between Bart, Beau and Bret Maverick,, I think I may have just said too much! Oh, what the heck,, Jack Kelly, Rodger Moore, and James Garner. And of course in the full length movie James Garner played Bret's father Beauregard Maverick AKA (Marshal Zane Cooper)
  18. There's one in every crowd!!
  19. While it is true that all the bikes you mention come standard with hard bags, the original Concours and the ST1300 handle more like a Goldwing than a sport bike, and the FJR is as sporty a handler as the VFR 800 Interceptor. The FJR that I rode handled better than the Kaw ZR7-S 750 I use to have. Also this is a brand new engine,, 76 degree V4, unlike the 800, the ST1300, and the Sabre which were all 90 degree V4s.
  20. The valve cover gaskets are neoprene and as many times as I've done valve checks and adjustments on previous Yamahas and Kawasakis I've owned, (I have not checked the valves on my RSV yet) I've never replaced one and they have never leaked being reused. Cheapest place I've found for shims is here.. www.z1enterprises.com/catalog.aspx?pid=YPEN1B I believe all Yamaha V4s use 25mm shims.
  21. I use the 60psi gauge model on my forks just fine,, it has 5psi lines and I just set my forks to 5psi. When I checked them last week, after many months, I could guestimate from where the needle was that one fork still had 2 psi and one had 4 psi. I actually use it to check my tire pressure also, seeing the valve stems are in such awkward places to get a gauge on.
  22. HEY,, I named my 07 Blue!!!
  23. Just a note on the Clearview, because of the angle of the screen anything shinny on the tank will reflect in you line of sight at times, so you may want to get a gas cap cover.
  24. I live in Florida and it is HOT here most of the time,, I leave the fork wings on all the time but I added the adjustable side vents www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelscitemdetail/5/4/83/408/2009/1/4607/0/0/detail.aspx . You can close them when it is cold to make you warmer, and open them when it is hot to get air flow on your feet and legs. I also added a Clearview windshield with a Goldwing vent in it. http://clearviewshields.com/shop/product.php?id=65 . Makes a huge difference. You can buy all the parts for the vent from www.Bikebandit.com . It is OEM for the newer 1800 wings. If you feel like modifiying your stock shield to save money. Big problem with the stock sheild is that for some reason even at 65 to 70 mph, when it is raining the water drops do not blow off. I personally do not like looking over the windshield so it was a real problem for me.. The Clearview is more swept back and water runs off it much better.. Also my clearview is an XXL so it is taller than stock, which my wife likes as it eliminates the buffetting she experienced on the back of her helmet with the stock shield.
  25. You can download the owners manual from the yamaha web site under my star http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/myyamaha/login/L3N0YXIvbXl5YW1haGEvaG9tZS5hc3B4/starthere.aspx And here is thread with the link to the full service manual. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1828 I believe the owners manual is available there too.
